Atletico agree deal to sign Argentine Almada from Botafogo

Ammon News - Atletico Madrid have agreed a deal to sign Argentina midfielder Thiago Almada from Brazilian side Botafogo, the LaLiga club confirmed on Tuesday.
"Our club and the Brazilian club have reached an agreement pending confirmation once the player passes the relevant medical examination and initials the contract," Atletico said in a statement.
Local media reports said that Almada is set to sign a contract until 2030 after Atletico paid around 21 million euros ($24 million) for the 24-year-old, who can also play as a winger.
A World Cup winner with Argentina, Almada made his senior debut with Velez Sarsfield in 2018 before joining Major League Soccer's Atlanta United.
With Botafogo he won both the Brazilian Serie A title and the Copa Libertadores in 2024, before joining Ligue 1's Olympique Lyonnais on loan in January this year. Reuters

Liverpool agree £65.5m deal to sell winger to Bayern Munich

Ammon News - Liverpool have agreed a deal to sell Luis Diaz to Bayern Munich. The total fee for the deal is £65.5m. Diaz, who has two years remaining on his Liverpool contract, now has permission to leave the club's Asia tour. Sky Sports News understand he is expected to leave Tokyo on Monday to finalise the move to Bayern. Liverpool rejected Bayern's initial advances and an offer believed to be in the region of £58.5m (€67m) but the German club returned with a second offer of £65.5m (€75m) including add-ons. The Reds have accepted the offer after securing what the club considers to be full market value. Throughout the summer, Liverpool had been unwilling to sell a key first-team player but Diaz and his representatives pushed for a move. He first signalled a wish to leave in the summer of 2024, but the club held firm while assessing both the squad and the market. Two separate attempts from Liverpool to agree a contract extension failed due to a gap between offers and demands, and after Diaz helped deliver the club's 20th Premier League title, Liverpool reluctantly agreed to his request to leave. Diaz joined Liverpool in January 2022 for a guaranteed £37.5m (€42.9m) payment, signing a five-and-a-half-year contract.

Man Utd's Mather looks for loan move abroad

Ammon News - Manchester United youngster Sam Mather is likely to look abroad for a loan move this season. Mather, 20, signed a new contract with United last summer after being part of their pre-season tour to the United States. However, he was overlooked for this summer's trip by head coach Ruben Amorim and, given the position he is most suited to is as a number 10, Mather knows his path to the first team is blocked. That means the Salford-born player will almost certainly go out on another loan this season. However, he wants to avoid a repeat of last season, when he went to Tranmere in January but only made two brief substitute appearances the following month.

FIFA inaugurates first N.African office in Morocco ahead of 2030 World Cup

Ammon News - FIFA inaugurated Saturday a regional office in Morocco the first in North Africa and fifth in the continent as the kingdom ramps up preparations for the 2030 World Cup which it will host jointly with Spain and Portugal. "This is a day that will be written in golden letters in the magnificent history of FIFA, African football, Moroccan football, and world football," said FIFA president Gianni Infantino at the inauguration ceremony. The inauguration, also attended by the head of the African Football Confederation, Patrice Motsepe, took place hours before the 2025 Women's Africa Cup of Nations final in Rabat, the capital where Morocco face Nigeria. Morocco will be the second African nation to host the World Cup in 2030, following South Africa's edition in 2010. This follows five unsuccessful bids by the kingdom.
