Vaani Kapoor Bring Up Fawad's Abir Gulaal On Mandala Murders Set? Piloo Vidyarthi Reveals

Last Updated: Piloo Vidyarthi, who worked with Vaani Kapoor in Netflix's Mandala Murders, revealed whether the latter spoke about shelved film Abir Gulaal with Fawad Khan on sets. Actor Piloo Vidyarthi played a key role in Netflix's recent release, Mandala Murders. She shared screen space with Vaani Kapoor in the supernatural thriller and opened up about her experience working with the actress. While Vaani has often been admired for her on-screen charm, Vidyarthi highlighted something far more enduring – her consistency, professionalism, and grounded approach to her craft. In an exclusive conversation with News18 Showsha, Piloo Vidyarthi also revealed whether she and Vaani also had any conversations about the latter's shelved film with Fawad Khan, Abir Gulaal, while they were shooting for Mandala Murders. Piloo Vidyarthi Says Vaani Kapoor Is 'Natural' And 'Consistent' 'She's very natural," Piloo Vidyarthi said, recalling her time on set with Vaani. 'She and I spoke briefly about our scenes. She had come all the way prepared. But what stood out to me was how consistent she is. Whether it's with the director, her co-actors, or the crew, she's the same – always calm, focused, and collaborative. That, I believe, is her strength," she expressed. When asked whether Vaani ever brought up Abir Gulaal, the much-discussed shelved project she was meant to do with Fawad Khan, Piloo clarified that there were no such conversations. 'They don't talk about these things. Bombay actors are extremely professional. Personal or shelved projects don't come up in casual chats," she explained. 'In our case, it was just about the work. We mostly spoke about the scenes we were doing. That was it," she added. For the unversed, Fawad Khan was to return to Indian films with Abir Gulaal, co-starring Vaani Kapoor. The film's first look was loved by the Pakistani actor's fans in India. However, Abir Gulaal is banned from release in India following the ghastly Pahalgam terror attack in April 2025. Piloo Vidyarthi On Whether Dimple Kapadia's Saas Bahu Aur Flamingo Inspired Her Mandala Murders Role Mandala Murders brings together an ensemble cast and layered storytelling that has been garnering attention for its sharp writing and performances. Piloo Vidyarthi plays a key role in the recently released crime drama. She opened up about how her process of preparing for roles is less about imitation and more about absorption, letting emotions, stories, and characters organically shape her performance. When asked if she watched shows like Dimple Kapadia's Saas Bahu Aur Flamingo to get into the skin of her character, Vidyarthi shared, 'To perform my part, I didn't watch anything specific with that intent. I do watch a lot of content, but not to pick up anything consciously because acting, in my opinion, can never be picked up. It's about your individual take on things. I let my characters develop organically." When asked about Dimple Kapadia's performance in Saas Bahu Aur Flamingo, she added, 'She was incredible. She didn't look like she was acting — she just was. That's what stays with you as a performer. You need to mentally blend with your character." Piloo Vidyarthi On Deriving Inspiration From Mother Shakuntala Barua She reflected on how simply watching good actors perform can be inspirational, but not instructive in the traditional sense. 'When you watch great performances, they leave an impression on you, but it's not about mimicking them. My mother [veteran Bengali actor Shakuntala Barua] and I are two very different kinds of actors. I've grown up around her work, and I appreciate her style. Unfortunately, not everyone appreciates subtlety. If you're truly a good actor, you don't try to act. The moment you try, it becomes acting, not feeling." Piloo Vidyarthi On Being A Part Of Mandala Murders She fondly recalled a particularly atmospheric episode directed with a unique tone. 'In the third episode [of Mandala Murders], there was hardly any lighting, just ambient elements. It created a very specific mood. I love watching people who don't 'act' in the conventional sense. They just become," she shared. Piloo also appreciated the contributions of her fellow actors on Mandala Murders, including Monica Choudhhary and Kavita Bhardwaj, praising the layering and authenticity they brought to their parts. 'We'd worked together before in The Wedding Story, and Monica was just brilliant here too. Everyone, from directors to co-actors, brought such depth and subtlety. It made the entire process even more fulfilling." First Published: August 01, 2025, 15:07 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Son Of Sardaar 2 movie review: Deepak Dobriyal runs away with Ajay Devgn-Mrunal Thakur's hare-brained comedy

Son Of Sardaar 2 movie review: I had nearly, and happily, forgotten most of the first Son Of Sardaar. Only when I saw Ajay Devgn in a nicely-tied turban looking lost in a 'yeh kya ho raha hai' manner, and the late Mukul Dev (this is his last film) and Vindu Singh roaming about aimlessly, that I had a flashback of the original. I wasn't a fan of the first one. Part 2, with these three reprising their roles, accompanied by some new faces, strains to be a little better. But only just. Two elements have been added to the plot-what's-that proceedings. One is a running India-Pakistan gag, in which a few characters are Pakistani, and they are not all 'soorma-eyed' terrorists (gasp). The other is a wonderful actor who should basically be given all the awards: a nearly-unrecognisable Deepak Dobriyal playing a trans person with brio, nearly runs away with the film. Or would have, if his character was given half a chance to do more than the all-over-the-place script allows him to. What of Ajay Devgn, the hero who leads this enterprise which wants to be a laugh-a-minute, madcap caper, but keeps slackening? His bhola-Sardar Jassi Randhawa, having left behind his loving bebey (Dolly Ahluwalia) in the 'pind', fetches up in Scotland, there to toggle between affront (wifey played by Neeru Bajwa, has turned out to be a 'bewafa'), and all-round befuddlement. Can't blame him, because all around him tumble an array of disconnected threads, lead by lovely dancer-by-profession Rabiya ( Mrunal Thakur, showing an unexpected gift for comedy) who just happens to be Pakistani. Rabiya's young daughter ( Roshni Walia) is in love with a guy whose rich sheep-farmer father ( Ravi Kishan) hates Pakistanis. Son Of Sardaar 2 movie trailer: Got that? No? Never mind. There's more. Chunky Panday and Kubbra Sait, also part of the dance troupe, are also, yikes, from that enemy country. He is a serial adulterer, she is, well, just, around, to watch over mismatched couple Jassi and Rabiya come closer. Older hero, much younger heroine, cringe max, or Bollywood as usual? Chunks of 1997 war film Border are regurgitated for laughs. A tank is rolled in. An old Sardar (Sharat Saxena) goes through multiple women of different nationalities; racism rears up and it's meant to be funny. I love broad laughs and hare-brained comedies as much as the next person, but whatever happened to keeping it crisp and connected? Bring back Dobriyal, and give him and Sait something to do. Pair Devgn with an age-appropriate leading lady, and give him a few chuckle-worthy lines. Can't be that hard, can it? Son Of Sardaar 2 movie cast: Ajay Devgn, Mrunal Thakur, Deepak Dobriyal, Ravi Kishan, Kubbra Sait, Roshni Walia, Sahil Mehta, Chunky Panday, Vindu Singh, Mukul Dev, Ashwini Kalsekar, Neeru Bajwa, Dolly Ahluwalia, Sharat Saxena, Sanjay Mishra Son Of Sardaar 2 movie director: Vijay Kumar Arora Son Of Sardaar 2 movie rating: 2 stars

Bengaluru-based brands Comet and Naru Noodle Bar drop a sneaker collab that you did not see coming

The Comet X Naru sneaker comprises 400 pairs that will drop on August 2 at 11 am at Comet' store in Indiranagar, Bengaluru, and online the following evening I noisily tear open my Naru ramen noodle soup packet and a pair of sneakers tumble out. These sneakers have — hold your breath — chopsticks sticking out of them, not by accident but by design. This is the result of a collaboration between homegrown sneaker brand Comet and Naru Noodle Bar, Bengaluru. While a footwear label and restaurant collab is unusual, it's not unheard of. In the past we have seen Burger King X Fila, (Dubai-based Pakistani restaurant) Ravi X Adidas, KOIO X Dominique Ansel. But this is, perhaps, the first time, two young Indian brands are creating something like this. The Comet X Naru sneaker comprises 400 pairs that will drop on August 2 at 11 am at Comet's store in Indiranagar, Bengaluru. Following which, a few pieces will drop on the website on August 3 at 6 pm. 'This is a Bengaluru first community drop. Both are Bengaluru brands. We've got lots of love from them and they have given us a platform to thrive on,' says Utkarsh Gupta, co-founder of Comet, adding that Comet's first collab was with artist Santanu Hazarika. Naru has joined forces before, with chefs, restaurants, and local artists for T-shirts. 'But this is the first time we are collaborating with a sneaker brand,' says Kavan Kuttappa, chef and founder of Naru Noodle Bar. After a meal at Naru, Utkarsh was visibly impressed with the food, attention to detail, and how passionate Kavan was. That got him thinking. 'And after six months of planning, design and samples, we are here,' adds Kavan. Kavan also was part of the design process. The shoe is black to match Naru's uniform. Then there is the winding Naru logo which resembles noodles and has the word Na in Kannada and rest in Japanese, which is embroidered on the shoe. 'We have also added minor elements at the back, like a monkey on the left and the noodle he is slurping on stretching to the right and ending in a noodle bowl,' explains Utkarsh. It is a black on black stitch and subtle. There are also some hidden elements. Kavan suggested putting Urumaki and Ajimata, inspired by their kitchen, beneath the heel tabs. The final surprise is a pair of detachable chopsticks. Utkarsh says, 'As a founder I am looking for inspiration. And this is cool, unique, fun!' The Comet X Naru sneakers are priced at ₹5,999.
