Two months on, artistes of Basavadi Sharanara Vaibhava still await pay
Bagalkot: Despite the grand success of the Basava Vaibhava celebrations at Kudalasangama two months ago — attended by chief minister Siddaramaiah and other ministers — nearly 600 artistes from 54 teams across the state who performed are still waiting for their remuneration. While the district administration claims that the Kannada and culture department is responsible for the disbursement, the department has reportedly passed the buck to the local authorities. The delay has caused frustration among artistes. Raju, a convenor of Shivasanchara Sanehalli, told TOI that his team presented plays during Basava Vaibhava held on April 29 and 30. "Kannada & Culture department officials asked about the possible expenses of our team, and our Panditaradhya Shivacharya Swamiji said it would be about Rs 75,000. Now it is almost two months, and we don't know when we will get the remuneration. Whenever we ask, officials say it will be released soon," he stated. Sources in the Bagalkot district administration said that initially, the event was planned for a day at a cost of Rs 1.1 crore. "Later, it was extended to two days with a budget proposal of Rs 3 crore. Senior officials from Bengaluru revised the cost to Rs 4.5 crore, and a fresh proposal was submitted," they added. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Trading CFD dengan Teknologi dan Kecepatan Lebih Baik IC Markets Mendaftar Undo Karasangayya Gudi, a resident of Kudalasangama, said that local artistes were kept away from the event. "Now, it's a shame on the part of the govt that it is making artistes from other districts wait for their remuneration for months. It should have been given on the occasion itself, and that is our culture," he commented. It is learnt that a remuneration of Rs one lakh is yet to be given to scholars who presented papers during the event. Requesting anonymity, a scholar who presented his paper said he has not received any remuneration for his lecture. "If we present our thoughts in any school-college or local organisations' seminars, we get the remuneration on the spot. However, the govt is taking months together," he rued. District minister RB Timmapur said he would check with the officials. Kannada and culture minister Shivaraj Tangadagi said that his department has already transferred the funds of Rs 3 crore to the district administration, and the administration should distribute it to the artists. However, Bagalkot deputy commissioner was not available for comment.
