Gayton's son reveals why he'll never take dad's surname

Gayton McKenzie's son, Calvin Le John – the new owner of Siwelele FC, previously SuperSport United – reveals he has no intention of taking his dad's surname. The firstborn of the Minister of Sport, Art, and Culture spoke to Robert Marawa in his first interview as a soccer boss. Speaking on 947, Calvin Le John was questioned on his decision not to take his father's surname. The Siwelele boss revealed that his mother chose to give him her maiden name in her bid to disassociate with Gayton McKenzie, who at the time had been sentenced to 17 years imprisonment at Grootvlie prison for armed robbery. He said, 'She didnt want her child to grow up with the surname of a prisoner. I never changed it. Growing up, I actually felt blessed that I had my mother's surname because I did not want to be directly under my father's shadow. Calvin – the firstborn of the Minister of Sport, Art and Culture – continued: 'I don't live by the title of the son of Gayton McKenzie. I always try to keep under the radar, I just wanted my peace.' View this post on Instagram A post shared by Phezu Kwabo (@phezukwabo_) In the interview, Calvin Le John praised his dad Gayton McKenzie for being a role model for many South Africans, despite his criminal past. He said, 'My father is my teacher, my mentor. I love him, respect him, and admire him. He taught me everything I know. 'His story is a lesson for every person in South Africa. 'He's one of those people who show you that you can come from nothing and make it to where he is Since Calvin Le John acquired Siwelele FC, many South Africans have accused Gayton McKenzie of having a hand in the closed business deal. Others claim he would use his position as Minister of Sport to further the club's interests. Responding to the rumours, Gayton said in a Facebook Live: 'People act like we took money from under our mattress and we just went to go buy a club. 'He bought it, I'm not part of the company….There's no consortium, he owns 100% of the company alone'. Gayton added, 'I'm very proud of him. He doesn't want to trade on McKenzie's name; that shows you he is different.' Let us know by leaving a comment below, or send a WhatsApp to 060 011 021 1. 'Playing for Pirates has changed my life, in a positive way,' Mbatha said via iDiski Times . 'I got my first national team call-up, I was able to be seen outside the country, and my name is now on a bigger stage. That's something I've always worked toward. Sundowns coach Cardoso defends his style But with the spotlight comes scrutiny — and the 25-year-old Orlando Pirates maestro admits it hasn't all been easy. He says that simple, everyday moments now feel different. 'It's hard to do things in private now, where I can just laugh out loud in a mall or be myself,' he said. 'Now there are opinions about you. People watch you, judge you — and sometimes even misunderstand you. 'If I have a disagreement in a shop or say something that someone doesn't like, suddenly it's a headline — because of who I am. Kaizer Chiefs starlet draws local and European interest

Kaizer Chiefs' rising right-back Sfiso Timba has caught the eye of PSL club Sekhukhune United following his stellar displays for the DDC team and South Africa's U20 national side, Amajita. Timba, who recently impressed at trials with Belgian outfit RWD Molenbeek and also trained with the Amakhosi senior team, now finds himself at the centre of growing transfer interest. A reliable source close to Naturena revealed that Sekhukhune United have formally enquired about the 19-year-old. 'You know Chiefs were looking at promoting him this season, but it's believed that with the signing of Thabiso Monyane they have enough right backs at the moment and they are looking at him growing. And since it's believed that Sekhukhune United have enquired about him, then they could loan him there. It won't be a permanent move. No, it is expected to be a loan move. But, yes, the interest is there from Sekhukhune United,' said the source. While Chiefs considered elevating Timba to the senior team, Monyane's arrival has temporarily blocked that pathway. However, a loan deal to Sekhukhune could offer the young defender valuable top-flight experience. Meanwhile, the door to Europe remains open. Timba left a strong impression during his stint at RWD Molenbeek, and the Belgian club reportedly still monitors his progress. 'They were happy when he was there. They even made a follow-up on him, and the chances are that he could still go there. But, for now, the club has to deal with the local interest first and take it from there.' Timba's stock has surged since helping coach Raymond Mdaka's Amajita squad clinch the U20 AFCON title. Securing a coveted spot at the upcoming FIFA U20 World Cup. His leadership and composure at the back have positioned him as one of the brightest young talents in South African football. As local and international clubs line up for his signature. Kaizer Chiefs face a crucial decision on how best to nurture one of their most promising academy graduates. Should Kaizer Chiefs release another youngster?
