Two CRPF personnel injured in IED blast in Chhattisgarh's Bijapur
A police officer said that the IED planted by Maoists went off when a team of CRPF's 229th battalion was on a Road Security Operation (RSO) between Timapur and Murdanda villages under the Awapalli police station limits of Bijapur.
The two personnel sustained injuries and were administered preliminary treatment and later shifted to the district hospital. A police statement later added that the injured personnel were being shifted to a better health centre in the capital city of Raipur.
Maoists often plant IEDs on dirt tracks to thwart anti-naxal operations inside forests and are difficult to detect. Both security personnel and civilians have fallen prey to such traps laid by ultras in the past in the Bastar region, police said.

Security forces seized 18 live IEDs in Khunti
Jamshedpur: The security forces seized 18 Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) on the borders of the West Singhbhum and Khunti districts on Wednesday. The recovery of the live explosives, each weighing 3kg, was made from the deep forest in the Kochang village under Arki police station limits in Khunti district. The recovery, a third time in the first nine days of July, was the outcome of the joint search and seizure conducted by the police of the two respective districts along with CRPF and Jharkhand Jaguar. Chaibasa SP Rakesh Ranjan said that the operation was carried on receiving intelligence that extremist's group have concealed explosives in large quantities to disrupt anti-Naxal operation. "The explosives were defused at the spot by the bomb disposal squad," SP said. The security forces had seized 30 IEDs on July 4 and 16 IEDs on July 7, respectively, from Toklo police station limits in West Singhbhum.

12 Maoists carrying 28.5 lakh surrender in Dantewada
Raipur: Twelve Maoists, including nine carrying bounties worth Rs 28.50 lakh, surrendered before authorities in Chhattisgarh's Dantewada district on Wednesday, marking a significant milestone in the 'Lon Varratu' (return to your home/village) campaign as the total surrenders crossed 1,000 since its launch in June 2020. The latest group of surrendered cadres included two women who turned themselves in to senior police and CRPF officials, citing disillusionment with the Maoist ideology and harsh forest life. Dantewada superintendent of police Gaurav Rai told reporters, "The number of Maoists, who surrendered under the Lon Varratu campaign of the Dantewada police, has crossed the 1,000-mark and this achievement reflects the far-sighted policies of the govt, the continuous action of the security forces and the trust of the local communities." Among the surrendered militants, Chandranna alias Bursu Punem, 52, and Amit alias Hinga Barsa, 26, each carried Rs 8 lakh bounties. Both were divisional committee members involved in multiple attacks on security forces. Two other significant surrenders included Aruna Lekam, 25, an area committee member with a Rs 5 lakh bounty, and Deva Kawasi, 22, a section commander with a Rs 3 lakh reward. Dantewada: In a landmark achievement for Chhattisgarh's counter-insurgency and rehabilitation efforts, the Dantewada police have claimed that more than 1,000 Maoists have surrendered under the state's flagship 'Lon Varratu' (Come Back Home) campaign, officials said. Launched in June 2020, the initiative has now crossed a historic milestone, with 1,005 former insurgents laying down arms and rejoining mainstream society, officials added. Of the 1,005 who have surrendered so far, 813 are men and 192 are women. As many as 249 of the Maoists who surrendered were carrying cash rewards totalling nearly Rs 5 crore. Among them were high-ranking operatives such as a divisional committee member from West Bastar, a medical team associate, and a section commander from the Maad division. One Maoist couple was also among those who surrendered. The campaign, which began with the aim of encouraging disillusioned Maoists to abandon violence and reintegrate into civil life, has seen participation from insurgents across Dantewada and neighbouring districts like Sukma, Bijapur, and Narayanpur. Authorities attribute the success of the campaign to a combination of sustained security operations, community outreach, and the state's comprehensive rehabilitation policy.
