Sivakarthikeyan reveals he's 'scared of sequels': 'It shouldn't spoil the first part's success'

Minta day ago
Tamil star Sivakarthikeyan, gearing up for the release of his much‑anticipated film 'Madharasi', featured as a guest speaker at the Nasscom People Summit 2025 in a segment titled The Man Behind the Laughs: Siva Karthikeyan's Rise from Small Screen to Silver Screen. During this event, the 'Amaran' actor shared candid reflections on his journey from television to film stardom.
In a lively Q&A, when asked which of his films he would prefer to turn into a sequel, Sivakarthikeyan stated, 'I'm scared of sequels because it should be a very good script and that shouldn't spoil the first part's success also. So I am always scared, but I want to try 'Maaveeran''s sequel because it was a unique script.'
'Maaveeran', released in July 2023 and directed by Madonne Ashwin, was widely praised as a fantasy action drama starring Sivakarthikeyan alongside Aditi Shankar and Mysskin.
According to box office data, the film earned approximately ₹ 50 crore worldwide within the first five days and ultimately closed with around ₹ 89 crore globally. Analysts noted its steady performance on weekday grosses and consistent appeal across domestic and international markets.
Turning to his forthcoming project, 'Madharasi' is slated for a worldwide theatrical release on 5 September 2025, directed by A.R. Murugadoss and featuring a cast that includes Rukmini Vasanth, Biju Menon, Vidyut Jammwal and Vikranth.
Promotional activity has ramped up significantly: the first single Salambala, composed by Anirudh Ravichander and sung by Sai Abhayankkar, dropped recently to enthusiastic fan reception. A grand audio launch is planned in London, adding to the film's mounting buzz
Following 'Madharasi', Sivakarthikeyan is also continuing work on Sudha Kongara's socially charged drama 'Parasakthi', currently shooting in Pollachi, with a projected release in 2026
Sivakarthikeyan's reflections at the summit, grounded by his success in 'Maaveeran' and the forthcoming excitement around 'Madharasi', underline his thoughtful approach to choosing roles—and sequels—with both caution and ambition.

Meet family where films, swimming medals, and cricket caps go hand in hand, the legacy of Thalaivasal Vijay.

Not every actor fades after the credits roll. Some quietly build empires off-screen. 'Thalaivasal' Vijay, a familiar face from Tamil cinema's golden '90s, is one such name. Known for his deeply rooted performances, he's the kind of actor who might not grab the poster space but ends up staying in memory longer than the leads. It all started with Thalaivasal in 1992. From there, Vijay became a staple in films like Thevar Magan, Mahanadhi, and the evergreen Kadhal Kottai — especially the iconic 'Vyyathe Sakothara' song, where his dance became the talk of the town. With over 200 films under his belt across Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Hindi, Vijay became the master of meaningful roles, the friend, the father, the silent game-changer. Who is his daughter, and why is she in the news? While Vijay made a name through cinema, his daughter Jayaveena chose the pool. A record-breaking swimmer, she clinched a medal at the South Asian Swimming Championships in Nepal and was once crowned 'India's Fastest Swimmer.' She has represented the country multiple times and made Tamil Nadu proud. And what about the son-in-law? The athletic streak runs strong in this family. Jayaveena is married to Baba Aparajith, Tamil Nadu's cricket star and a former IPL player. He played a crucial part in India's victorious Under-19 World Cup campaign in 2012. The couple, both rooted in sport, tied the knot a few years ago and continue to thrive in their respective fields. Does Vijay still follow sports? Absolutely. Known to be a sports enthusiast since childhood, Vijay still loves tuning into sports channels at home. With a swimmer daughter and a cricketer son-in-law, his evenings are probably full of highlight reels and proud smiles.

Vijay Deverakonda's Kingdom Faces Protests For Hurting Tamil Sentiments

Last Updated: The Telugu film Kingdom, starring Vijay Deverakonda, faces protests in Tamil Nadu for allegedly misrepresenting Tamil identity and hurting religious sentiments. The release of the Telugu film Kingdom, starring Vijay Deverakonda, has triggered widespread protests in Tamil Nadu, with several groups accusing the film of misrepresenting Tamil identity and hurting religious sentiments. The film, directed by Gowtam Tinnanuri, premiered globally on July 31 but has since become the focus of a growing controversy. Criticism has largely stemmed from Tamil nationalist group Naam Tamilar Katchi (NTK), which has taken strong exception to certain elements in the film. Members of the group claim Kingdom portrays Sri Lankan Tamils in a negative light. Further anger was directed at the film's decision to name its antagonist 'Murugan', a name associated with one of Tamil Nadu's most revered deities, Lord Murugan. NTK condemned these creative choices, calling them deliberate and insensitive. According to the group, the film maligns both the identity and cultural history of Tamils. In response, protests were staged outside multiple theatres across the state, with party members demanding that Kingdom be banned from screening in Tamil Nadu. One of the more serious incidents occurred in Ramanathapuram, where NTK supporters gathered outside a cinema hall to obstruct the film's screening. Protesters raised slogans and called for an immediate stop to the show. The situation escalated when police intervened to disperse the crowd, leading to a confrontation between law enforcement and demonstrators. A minor scuffle reportedly broke out during the standoff, prompting the deployment of additional forces to restore order. While no injuries have been reported, security remains heightened in the area to prevent further disturbances. The film features Vijay Deverakonda in the lead, alongside Bhagyashree and Satyadev in key roles. Despite its star cast and scale, the film's reception in Tamil Nadu has been clouded by the controversy surrounding its content. NTK has renewed calls for government intervention, pressing the Tamil Nadu administration to impose a ban on the film, which it claims spreads anti-Tamil narratives and disregards deeply held cultural beliefs. As tensions persist, political observers warn that the controversy may intensify if no response is issued by the filmmakers or the censor board. Talking about the box office collections, according to the latest figures from Sacnilk, Kingdom earned just Rs 2.25 crore on Day 5, its lowest so far. The film had kicked off with a strong opening of Rs 18 crore on Thursday, but the weekend didn't see any big jump. It collected Rs 7.5 crore on Saturday and Rs 8 crore on Sunday. With Monday and Tuesday showing a clear dip, Kingdom's total box office collection now stands at Rs 43.15 crore. At the heart of Kingdom is Vijay Deverakonda's Suri, a simple police constable with a very personal mission. He goes undercover in Sri Lanka to take down a dangerous drug cartel, hoping it'll somehow lead him to his long-lost brother, Siva (played by Satyadev). But things get messier than he imagined. He soon crosses paths with the menacing cartel kingpin Murugan (Venkitesh), and what follows is a high-stakes game of deception, danger, and emotional turmoil. Helping him navigate this chaos is Dr Madhu (Bhagyashri Borse), who is also working undercover. First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
