KL Kepong logs in higher net profit of RM154.27mil in Q2

KUALA LUMPUR: Kuala Lumpur Kepong Bhd (KL Kepong) posted a 31.8 per cent jump in net profit to RM154.27 million for its second financial quarter ended March 31, 2025 from RM117.07 million a year ago, on improved plantation profit.
KL Kepong's revenue rose 16.2 per cent to RM6.34 billion from RM5.46 billion a year earlier.
The company declared an interim dividend of 20 sen per share for the financial year ending Sept 30, 2025 payable on July 29.
KL Kepong said plantation profit improved to RM454.3 million in Q2 from RM357.7 million in the same quarter in 2024.
This was largely due to higher average selling prices of crude palm oil (CPO) and palm kernel.
Its manufacturing segment suffered a loss of RM38.3 million against the profit of RM56.7 million in Q2 FY2024.
This was dragged down by losses from the non-oleochemical division, refineries and kernel crushing operations.
Its property segment's profit dropped 53.6 per cent to RM3.5 million from RM7.6 million a year earlier.
For the cumulative six months, the company's net profit rose 8.9 per cent to RM374.73 million from RM344.01 million previously.
Its revenue grew 10.7 per cent to RM12.28 billion from RM11.09 billion.
KL Kepong executive chairman Tan Sri Lee Oi Hian said despite the volatile external environment, its plantation division had continued to deliver strong results.
"We anticipate production to improve in the second half of 2025, though fluctuations in CPO prices and external demand remain key uncertainties.
"Our oleochemical sub-segment's recovery remains encouraging, and we are closely managing challenges in the refining business.
"Moving forward, we remain watchful, focusing on operational efficiency, long-term value creation and sustainability," he said in a statement.
As of September 2024, KLK had about 300,000 hectares of planted area.

Collaboration inked to build new school in Bandar Seri Coalfields

Cheng (left) with Kuala Lumpur Kepong Bhd executive chairman Tan Sri Lee Oi Hian after the MOU signing ceremony. A strategic collaboration is set to provide Bandar Seri Coalfields residents and its surrounding community with access to high-quality education within an integrated education zone for the Northern Klang Valley Corridor. This follows a memorandum of understanding signed between KLK Land, a subsidiary of Kuala Lumpur Kepong Bhd (KLK), and Kuen Cheng Holistic Education Bhd to establish the new Kuen Cheng High School 2, which will be located at Bandar Seri Coalfields, Sungai Buloh. The education zone currently includes Wesley Methodist Private School, SJK (T) Ladang Coalfields and a new Chinese primary school SJK (C) Lee Loy Seng, set to complete in January 2028. KLK Land has allocated 3.96ha of prime land for the development of Kuen Cheng High School 2. The new school would further complement the existing and future educational institutions in offering wider educational opportunities for the community, the company said in a statement. With the current Kuen Cheng High School in Kuala Lumpur experiencing an overwhelming demand for admissions, this new campus will help meet the growing need for quality educational spaces. The proposed Kuen Cheng High School 2 is expected to begin student recruitment in preparation for the 2027 academic year intake. KLK Land managing director Lee Wen Ling said, 'At KLK, we believe that education plays a vital role in shaping new generations and nurturing young minds for a brighter future. 'We are pleased to partner with Kuen Cheng Holistic Education Bhd to bring accessible and quality education to Bandar Seri Coalfields and surrounding communities. 'As we continue to develop the township, we are focused on creating a place where residents can enjoy both a comfortable living environment and a strong sense of community,' he said. 'With the opening of Coalfields Retail Park, our lifestyle neighbourhood mall set to complete in second quarter of 2026, this strategic educational partnership will further complete our lifestyle offering of the township, making Bandar Seri Coalfields an attractive place for families to call home.' As Kuen Cheng High School chairman, Tan Sri William Cheng Heng Jem highlighted his views with regards to the Board of Governors' decision to establish Kuen Cheng High School 2. 'A branch school is not merely to replicate an existing institution, but to adopt its entire value, philosophy and the commitment in providing high- quality education. 'Our school has experienced significant growth in the past decade and reached its maximum classroom capacity permitted,' he said. 'The student population now comes close to 5,000, whose average admission rate has been just 49.8%, resulting in enthusiastic applications being turned down and many promising young applicants unable to secure a place. 'Furthermore, the excellent academic results, high admission rate of our students qualifying for public universities and setting a new school record of Kuen Cheng, has prompted our determination to expand,' he added. 'It is an essential mission to uphold and promote our valuable traditional values while also celebrating the richness and inclusivity of the multicultural landscape.' The development of Kuen Cheng High School 2 marks a key milestone in Kuen Cheng Holistic Education Bhd's expansion into Bandar Seri Coalfields, complementing KLK Land's vision of creating a vibrant, well-rounded community that caters to both educational and lifestyle needs.

IPOH, July 27 — The development of 12 MADANI Recreational Parks (TRM) around Ipoh, involving an allocation of RM5.4 million, is expected to be fully completed by the end of July, demonstrating the government's commitment to providing conducive recreational spaces for the public. Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming said the TRM projects were implemented by the Ipoh City Council (MBI) after receiving the allocation from the ministry. He said each park was developed at a cost of RM450,000, with the Canning MADANI Recreational Park among those completed in the city. 'Under the ministry, we have a vision of 1,000 parks, comprising 1,000 community parks and open spaces in residential areas, to allow local communities to enjoy greener, more beautiful and cleaner public parks in line with the MADANI economic framework. 'In line with the MADANI government's aspirations, we aim to build a nation that is sustainable, competitive, innovative and prosperous. The people's well-being is our priority,' he said. Nga said this at a press conference after officiating the Canning MADANI Recreational Park and launching the Ipoh City Council (MBI)-Kuala Lumpur Kepong Bhd (KLK) Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme here today. Earlier, a memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed between KLK and MBI to collaborate in maintaining seven TRMs around Ipoh for two years. Nga said KLK's teams would visit the parks every two weeks to carry out fertilising, pesticide application, grass cutting and other maintenance work. 'The seven TRMs that will be maintained by KLK are Woodland Park 1 Tambun, Woodland Park 2 Tambun, Canning, Bandar Baru Putra, Westpool Park, Pengkalan Barat and First Garden. This is an initial step. 'This collaboration is a good initiative, and I hope more major companies will come forward to contribute their energy and service in building a clean, green, prosperous, peaceful and harmonious Ipoh,' he said. — Bernama
