England knock India out of WCL
The victory was built on Ravi Bopara's explosive unbeaten century and Ajmal Shahzad's incisive bowling.
After winning the toss, India's captain Yuvraj Singh opted to field first, a decision that backfired as England amassed a colossal 223/3 in 20 overs, leaving India with an uphill task.
Bopara stole the show with a scintillating knock of 110 not out off 55 deliveries, smashing eight towering sixes and eight boundaries.
His innings was a masterclass in controlled aggression, keeping the scoreboard ticking at every stage.
Bopara was ably supported by Ian Bell, who struck 54 off 36 balls, peppered with six fours and two sixes.
Moeen Ali chipped in with a blistering 33 from 13 balls, while Samit Patel added 20 runs in just nine deliveries.
Among Indian bowlers, Harbhajan Singh was the standout performer, finishing with figures of 3/18 in three overs, while Varun Aaron picked up 1/34 runs.
Chasing a daunting 224, India Champions fought valiantly but ultimately fell short, finishing at 200/8 in 20 overs.
Yusuf Pathan top-scored with a spirited 52 off 29 balls, hitting two sixes and six boundaries.
Captain Yuvraj Singh contributed 38 runs from 27 balls, while Stuart Binny (35) and Ambati Rayudu (28) tried to keep hopes alive. However, regular wickets hampered the chase.
Ajmal Shahzad turned the game decisively in England's favor with a superb spell, claiming 4/31 runs in his four overs.
Stuart Meaker bagged two wickets, while Ravi Bopara and Ryan Sidebottom chipped in with one each.

Pakistan Champions have qualified for the World Championship of Legends (WCL) 2025 final following India Champions' withdrawal from their semi-final clash, the tournament organisers confirmed on Wednesday. The defending champions, who pulled out of their high-octane against Pakistan Champions earlier in the tournament, earned a miraculous qualification into the semi-finals by comprehensively defeating West Indies Champions which powered them past England Champions due to a superior net run rate. India Champions, as a result, finished fourth in the standings, setting up a blockbuster semi-final with arch-rivals Pakistan Champions, who finished at the top of the standings with nine points in five matches. However, soon after the matchup was confirmed, the uncertainty continued to jeopardise the blockbuster clash, caused due to India Champions' reported refusal to partake in the fixture. Meanwhile, as per the latest development, the WCL has confirmed the abandonment of the clash due to India Champions' withdrawal, citing public sentiment. Since the Pakistan Champions were ready to compete, they have now advanced to the final, where they will face winner of the second semi-final on Saturday. "At WCL, we have always believed in the power of sport to inspire and bring about positive change in the world," the cricket league said in a statement. "However, public sentiment must always be respected -after all, everything we do is for our audience. "We respect the India Champions' decision to withdraw from the semi-finals, and we equally respect the Pakistan Champions' readiness to compete. "Taking all factors into consideration, the match between the India Champions and the Pakistan Champions has been called off. "As a result, Pakistan Champions will advance to the final."

Stokes, Jadeja prosper in ICC rankings
All-rounders Ben Stokes and Ravindra Jadeja have made substantial gains in the ICC Men's Test Player Rankings after their fine performances with both bat and ball in the drawn fourth Test of the ICC World Test Championship series between England and India. England captain Stokes has progressed three places to third position among all-rounders, his highest position since December 2022. The formerly top-ranked all-rounder's knock of 141 in England's only innings and a haul of six wickets that included a five-for in the first innings, has also helped him move up eight slots to 34th among batters and up from 45th to 42nd among bowlers. Jadeja has inflated his lead at the top of the rankings for all-rounders after grabbing four wickets and scoring a fighting 107 not out. He has added 13 rating points and is now on an aggregate of 422, 117 rating points clear of Bangladesh's Mehidy Hasan. He has also moved up five places to 29th among batters and up one place to 14th among bowlers.
