People Share What LGBTQ Pride Means To Them

Buzz Feed04-06-2025
I had the pleasure to attend Outloud Music Festival at WeHo Pride as a complimentary guest, and it was a beautiful weekend celebrating LGBTQ+ people and amplifying queer artists and allies.
Over the weekend, we witnessed performances by Lizzo, Remi Wolf, Kim Petras, Honey Dijon, Paris Hilton, and many other music artists and performers.
With everyone in great spirits, it was the perfect opportunity to ask the Ouloud Music Festival guests, "What Pride means to them?" and their responses were inspiring, heartfelt, and necessary. Here's what people had to say:
"Having the comfortability to be yourself. Unfortunately, a lot of families and people are not able to express themselves. It's being able to express yourself, and hopefully build lifelong friendships and to break out the shell and stigmas that currently exist about the queer community."
—Reggie
"Pride is a protest. It means liberating our rights, and that includes trans rights. It means having as much sex as we can have, and liberating our rights preferably at the same time."
"Pride means being whoever you need to be in this lifetime to make it, and I do feel like most people don't do that. Be exactly who you are. Don't fit into a mold. Find people who accept you for who you are."
—Adam
"Pride is not only a celebration of love and joy and life, but also a promise we are making to the people that came before us. Queer people have always been here, but there are so many ugly parts of our past where queer identities were systematically erased. For example, the way that the AIDS crisis was handled in the '80s. When I celebrate Pride, I am not only using it as a time to be out and open in my identity, but to honor those who weren't able to do so in the past, and those who fought for our rights to exist and be visible in the world."
"A celebration of acceptance and just living your authentic life. There are lot of people who don't live their authentic lives and we do."
—Grace
"Pride is a remembrance of the Stonewall riots; it's a celebration of our community where we can present a safe space and remind everyone they are loved and matter; it's a message that the LGBTQ+ community has always been here and will always be here."
"Pride means to be fully free in whatever identity and orientation you are and to celebrate queer culture with the community and others."
—Linda
"Pride means celebrating the anniversary of the strong and fearless pioneers in the community who stood up for what's right in 1969, plus honoring the fight that has continued ever since."
"Pride means community, and it's a reminder that no matter what the world throws at us, we are still here and will continue to be here no matter what."
—Paola
Pride, to me, is a time when it's good to reflect on those who came before [us] to give [us] the advantages and opportunities [we have today]. It's also a time for me personally when I like to check in on my development and my journey as a gay person, who I have become, and whether I am proud of that person. As the years go on, the answer has become yes more and more."
"Being an ally."
—Zack
"Taking ownership of who I am without shame or guilt of the heteronormative!"
"To me Pride means allowing yourself to love and be loved no matter what. It's not a season, it's a feeling."
—K
"Pride means never being ashamed of who you are and always being true to yourself (I guess, LOL)"
"A celebration of how far we've come and how far we have to go."
—Gabriel
"Pride is being able to feel enthusiastic and accepted all at the same time without having to worry if I fit in."
"Being proud of who you are no matter what."
—Tina
Lastly, "My existence is validated."

Lizzo Shares How Wood Therapy & Lymphatic Massage Helped Body Goals

Originally appeared on E! Online Sometimes Lizzo gets to lie down and relax. The "About Damn Time" singer has been sharing the secrets of, as she put it, the "intentional weight release journey" she's been on for almost two years. And on July 3, as she revealed jaw-dropping side-by-side photos from her first lymphatic massage vs. how she looked after having her latest one, she explained how self-care has played a role in her body transformation. Along with working out and making nutritious food choices, of course. "In light of all these magazines and blogs wanting me to be on ozempic soooo bad— here's the truth!" Lizzo captioned her pics, including one in which she's cloaked in plastic wrap inside an infrared sauna. "I work my ass off, training 3x a week, daily sauna & cardio, adding animal protein back into my diet, hiring a chef who helps me meal prep and keeps track of what I put into my body in a calorie deficit, cutting out sugary Starbucks & full fat sodas & potato chips." What to Know After Verdict The 37-year-old explained that she has turned to wood therapy (a massage technique using wooden tools to apply pressure and manipulate the body), as well as lymphatic massages (which target specific areas to move excess fluid away from tissues and toward lymph vessels and nodes to flush out toxins), in order to help get her body snatched. Cutting down on alcohol also proved key to Lizzo's progress. While she quit drinking for the 'longest' time, she clarified that she's partaking once again because she 'earned it.' However, she still does a full 'detox' once a month and keeps an active lifestyle with some of her favorite hobbies, adding, "I play pickleball and hike and walk on the beach and move my body and dance.' "I also get holistic body work done, wood therapy [a massage technique using wooden tools to apply pressure and manipulate the body] and lymphatic massage," the 37-year-old noted. "I'm so happy and proud of what I've done and no one can take that away from me." As Lizzo said on an April episode of Jay Shetty's On Purpose podcast, "I've gained a sense of self. I've gained a lifestyle that I actually really love and I'm like, 'I can maintain this.'" See Lizzo's body transformation journey in photos: And as for those rumors about weight loss drugs being her secret to her transformation? Lizzo recently shared that she tried Ozempic and other GLP-1 medications—a class of drugs primarily used to manage type 2 diabetes and/or obesity—to aid her weight loss, but ultimately decided not to go down that road. "Ozempic works because you eat less food, yeah? So if you eat right, it makes you feel full," the Yitty swim and shapewear cofounder mused to Trisha Paytas on a June episode of the podcast. "But if you can just do that on your own and get mind over matter, it's the same thing." As Lizzo said on an April episode of Jay Shetty's On Purpose podcast, "I've gained a sense of self. I've gained a lifestyle that I actually really love and I'm like, 'I can maintain this.'" Lizzo Fires Back at Ozempic Critics: ‘This S**t Is Hard'

Lizzo is once again hitting back at busybodies and skeptics who won't stop speculating on her weight loss. In an interview with Women's Health, the 37-year-old singer aimed to make her mindset, motivation, and methods crystal clear. She directed some comments at those who, despite her previous statements, insist that Lizzo's changing figure is attributed to GLP-1 drugs. Lizzo shared with writer Jessica Herndon that she's recently received questions from fans, like, 'Are you taking Ozempic?' and 'What happened when you said it's okay to be fat?' This is not to say that the artist seeks to shade those who turn to GLP-1 drugs in their healthcare journeys. She said, 'If I did all of this on Ozempic....I would be just as proud of myself, because this s**t is hard.' For the 'About Damn Time' singer, this wasn't a weight loss journey, but a weight release journey. Because, as Lizzo sees it, she didn't actually lose anything. 'It's okay to release weight...[and] it's okay to gain weight after you've released weight,' she says. In January, Lizzo posted photos to her Instagram wearing workout gear paired with an ecstatic caption. 'I reached my weight release goal,' she wrote, adding a motivational message for fans about achieving their own goals. 'I wanted to be 'big-girl skinny,'' she tells Women's Health. 'Every big girl knows what I'm talking about. Big-girl skinny is 250 pounds.' This meant a balance of feeling like herself while reducing back pain and health concerns she struggled with. The change, she explains, came from consistent exercise and a nutritious diet with lean proteins and vegetables. Each week, she performs a mix of strength training and cardio for three days, and dedicates two days to 45-minute cardio workouts. It wasn't about chasing thinness—only feeling better in her body, on her terms.

Norwegian royal, 22, comes out as bisexual at Pride parade with support from mom Princess Märtha Louise

A young royal has become the first member of the Norwegian royal family to publicly come out as queer. Maud Angelica Behn, the eldest daughter of Princess Märtha Louise, attended Oslo's Pride Parade over the weekend where she decided to share the news. Taking to Instagram following the event, Behn shared a series of photos on social media in which she's dressed in various colors — likely mirroring the rainbow Pride flag. 6 Maud Angelica Behn has become the first member of the Norwegian royal family to publicly come out as queer. Instagram / @maud_angelica_behn 'Happy Pride from a bisexual person,' she captioned her Instagram post. 'This year's Pride was absolutely amazing and there was so much love.' Her mother, Princess Märtha Louise, also made sure that her support was noted, as she attended Norway's largest LGBTIQ+ festival with her second husband, American shaman Durek Verrett. The royal, who also has daughters Leah Isadora and Emma Tallulah with her first husband Ari Behn, who died by suicide in 2019, took to social media to share a sweet message about her daughter's announcement. 'Love is never wrong. This Pride Month, I want to honor the courage it takes to live your truth,' Märtha Louise wrote on Instagram alongside photos and videos from the parade. 6 Princess Märtha Louise joined her daughter at Norway's largest LGBTIQ+ festival. There's something profoundly beautiful about daring to love who you love, even when the world tells you to be quiet, to shrink, or to hide.' 'But love isn't meant to be hidden. It's meant to be celebrated, lived, and shared in all its wonderful forms,' she went on. 'Pride is not just about identity. It's about freedom. It's about the bravery to be fully yourself in a world that often doesn't make that easy.' 6 Behn attended Oslo's Pride parade over the weekend. Instagram / @maud_angelica_behn 'To everyone out there still trying to find the words or the courage: You are seen, you are loved, and you never have to apologize for who you are. 🏳️‍🌈 Happy Pride,' the princess concluded. Märtha Louise, for her part, made headlines last year after tying the knot with the American self-professed shaman in a wedding ceremony following three days of festivities. The princess wed Verrett, who claims to be a sixth-generation shaman from California, in the small town of Geiranger. The location is prized for its typical Norwegian scenery among mountains and fjords. 6 The princess attended the parade with her second husband, American shaman Durek Verrett. The Norwegian princess can trace her ancestry back to Britain's Queen Victoria. The couple, who toured the country in 2019 as 'The Princess and The Shaman,' have created waves in Norway with their alternative beliefs. 6 Maud is the eldest daughter of Princess Märtha Louise and her late first husband, Ari Behn.
