Northern Ont. police seize replica gun after alleged assault
A 25-year-old local man has been charged after Thunder Bay police responded to a weapons incident last week.
Officers were called to the 200 block of Cumming Street on Tuesday afternoon following reports that a suspect had allegedly brandished what appeared to be a handgun at a female victim and struck her with the weapon.
Authorities said the individuals involved had left the scene before police arrived, but the victim was located nearby.
According to police, officers then found the suspect a short time later and took him into custody.
'The investigation resulted in a replica firearm being seized,' police said in a news release.
The accused faces charges of assault with a weapon and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose. He was also wanted on an outstanding arrest warrant.
The man appeared in court on July 9 and was remanded into custody pending a future court appearance.
