Carlton players have left the field to a chorus of boos at half time after a six-goal North Melbourne quarter at the MCG left their season hanging by a thread.
The Kangaroos booted 6.2 to 0.1 in a second quarter onslaught that left Carlton's season in a precarious position.
Carlton is already fighting for a finals position, two wins out of the top eight, but an upset loss to North Melbourne could spell the end of the hopes for 2025.
Carlton was wasteful in the first quarter, kicking 2.6 to 1.3, but the floodgates opened in the second term as North Melbourne ran rampant.
To make matters worse for the Blues, they are one of the league's worst-performing second half teams, making the prospects of a comeback slim.
Earlier, Carlton dodged a bullet after star defender Jacob Weitering was taken from the field after injuring his left ankle early in the first term against North Melbourne.
The Blues vice-captain was forced to leap over Cam Zurhaar deep in attack as they chased the loose ball in Carlton's attack.
But he twisted his ankle on landing and immediately raised his hands to the trainers signalling he was in trouble.
The game was stopped as the Blues medical staff assisted Weitering from the ground, with the backman unable to put any pressure on his ankle.
It came just after North Melbourne forward Jack Darling had to leave the ground after getting a big gash in his leg after going down in a contest on the Shane Warne Stand side.
Darling returned in the second term after getting treatment in the rooms.
Weitering had some medical attention but gave Blues fans some hope when he did some run throughs at the quarter-time break and he returned to the field to start the second quarter.
Nick Dal Santo on FoxFooty said he had rolled his left ankle and spent most of the rest of the term down the race, re-emerging with a minute to go in the first term.
'They may have got away with this,' Dal Santo said. CURNOW'S FUNKY ARRIVAL AT THE G

There can't be too many concerns over Charlie Curnow's calf after his stylish arrival to the MCG.
The star Blue was subbed out of last week's win at half time, with many worried he would not be fit to play against North Melbourne.
He was named to play on Thursday and looked the goods as he rode up to the ground shortly after 11.30am on Saturday.
Curnow arrived on his bike, sporting sunglasses and a helmet, in his Carlton pregame fit before passing security and riding into the belly of the MCG.

Carlton defender Jack Silvagni in doubt to face Collingwood

Don't miss out on the headlines from AFL. Followed categories will be added to My News. Silvagni was confined to run-throughs on the far wing at Ikon Park alongside injured forward Harry McKay as the Blues held an open training session on Monday morning. He spoke at length to the Blues' trainers before moving inside about 30 minutes into the session. Fellow defender Jacob Weitering moved well in a promising session after battling an ankle injury in the Blues' heavy loss to Port Adelaide, but losing Silvagni would force another reshuffle of the club's key position stocks ahead of the prime time clash with their arch rivals. About 40 Carlton supporters watched on in the stands as the under-pressure side was put through its paces. There was minimal security presence and the session passed without controversy except for one rowdy onlooker standing outside the gates. 'Bit of voice, lads! Bit of voice, come on. Library,' he yelled out. Blues skipper Patrick Cripps trained fully after dealing with illness over the past week, as did sore ruckman Tom De Koning. Embattled coach Michael Voss was not spotted, but rarely ventures on to the track during the first session of the week. MORE TO COME. Jay Clark's Top 50: Who reigns as footy's number one man?

Brendan Fevola involved in wild brawl during local game

Carlton great Brendan Fevola has been involved in a fiery brawl during a local game in country South Australia. Fevola pulled on the boots for South Whyalla on the weekend, playing against fierce rivals Central Whyalla at Memorial Oval on Saturday. WATCH THE VIDEO ABOVE: Fevola in fight during local clash. Since his 204-game, 623-goal AFL career ended, Fevola has played for a host of local clubs around Victoria, including a season in which he played for a new team every week in what was effectively a tour of exhibition matches. The 44-year-old almost always draws a big crowd to his matches and this was no exception, with the packed house treated to an absolute thriller. Fevola kicked two crucial goals to help his side to a two-point victory, but it was a scuffle late on in the contest that drew the most attention. Brendan Fevola was in a fiery melee during a local clash in South Australia. Credit: Facebook Fevola was wrestling with two rival players when a third ran in and remonstrated from behind. The much-loved figure responded by grabbing that opponent's jumper and unleashing a series of jumper punches, some of which appeared to connect. He was then slung to the crowd during the brawl that looked like it was a three-on-one against Fevola. 'Not sure if this is a fairly good welcome, is it? He's come in to play a game of footy for the Whyalla footy league and he's getting a fair bit of attention,' the commentator said. Play continued as the fight eventually dissipated with South Whyalla holding a 10-point lead. The thrilling victory lifted South Whyalla up to third place on the ladder, just one win behind Central Whyalla in the six-team league. Fevola and pop star Guy Sebastian last month lined up for the Masala Dandenong Football Club Thirds, inspiring the local club to a rare victory after 20 straight losses. Sebastian showed some crafty skills through the midfield before getting behind the mic at half-time to belt out a few of his biggest hits, much to the delight of the more than 2500 in attendance. But his day ended in pain after rupturing his Achilles tendon. Sebastian joined the circle for the team song while on crutches, then shared his own update in a light-hearted post on Instagram. 'Thought I'd strap on the boots after a LONG hiatus and performed for the locals,' he wrote. 'Great day out for Masala Dandenong getting their first win with Brendan Fevola kicking a bag! 'Unfortunately I've done a proper number on myself. #realitycheck #sticktosinging #footyglorydaysareover.'
