Lily Allen on 'run-in' with dad at Glastonbury after rocky relationship
Lily Allen has revealed she bumped into her dad at Glastonbury and was left touched when he showed up to watch her perform.
The singer, 39, said on her BBC Sounds show that she spotted her father Keith Allen tucking into pie and mash at the festival, completely unplanned.
She said: 'My dad came to see me play with Shy FX. It was really sweet. I ran into him, he was up at the park just having a pie and mash, and I hadn't called him or told him that I was going or anything. I just spotted him and I went over and I was like, da-da! And he was like, hello, baby.'
Lily added: 'And he was like, what are you doing later? I said, oh, I'm playing up at the temple. And he was like, oh, well, we'll definitely come to that. And I didn't really, you know, people say that they'll come to things and then they don't.
'And then when I turned up there, like five minutes before Shy's set started. I got there and my dad and Tom Pumphrey and Nicky Kentish-Barnes and Steve Mallet and all the cousins, everyone was there, like 20 of them, it was so sweet.
'And I wasn't on until right at the end of Shy's set, so they all like raved in the heat to drum and bass."
"Gracie said that my dad was like so proud looking and was like, she said it was her favourite moment of the whole weekend.'
The candid story comes after years of publicly strained relations between Lily and her dad. On her Miss Me podcast, she admitted she has 'complicated relationships' with some relatives and isn't sure she's ready to fix them.
At the time, she told listeners: 'I have complicated relationships with some of my family members and I do sometimes think, 'Hmm, if they died, it would be quite sad to have those things unresolved.' But I'm quite stubborn so it's a tricky one, isn't it?'
Lily previously said she was estranged from her dad in 2021, and in her memoir My Thoughts Exactly, she called him a 'self-saboteur' and claimed he'd suffered a cocaine-related heart attack at Glastonbury in 1998 - something Keith insisted was actually food poisoning.
In a 2015 tweet, Lily also wrote 'My dad walked out on me when I was four, I'm sick of this. My dad was at Latitude when I headlined and didn't even come to see me. I've probably spent more time walking my dogs than I have with my dad my entire life.'
Despite their rocky history, her Glastonbury encounter with Keith seems to have been a rare sweet moment for the pair.

Lily… I'm so happy I can say that and you can say it and nobody came to shoot us down, no judgment.' Well, no judgment from each other. The rest of us? I'm not gonna lie, some of us are definitely feeling a bit judgy, which is our right. Freedom of speech goes both ways. In fact, I've just spoken to a friend who more or less fits that general description and she just murmured something non-committal along the lines of 'very unfortunate'. To be fair, maybe she meant me, but I doubt it as we're going for a drink next week. Anyway, I'll flag this up right now; I've never had an abortion. Does that make me a paragon of reproductive virtue? No – more a case of 'there but for the grace of God'. Can I imagine scenarios in which I might have had one? Yes, I can. Would I have felt terrible and ashamed? Yes. Would I have overcome that shame and believed it was my duty to talk about it publicly afterwards in a bid to remove the stigma for others in the same position? No. I wouldn't even have told my sisters. Does that make me a bad person? Judge for yourself (free country, see above). More saliently; do I condemn women who've had an abortion, or even more than one? Absolutely not – it would be utterly hypocritical of me.

(Image: Getty Images ) One Oasis fan from North Wales recently shared a story about how her dad played a cruel prank on her when she was younger, and now it has turned in to a family tradition. 19-year-old Lily spoke on the new BBC Sounds podcast, Mad For Oasis, which is presented by Noel Gallagher's daughter Anaïs. The second episode of the five part podcast series, hears Lily explain how her father Dean convinced her she saw the band live when she was younger,however the band she was watching was in fact a tribute. It was just brilliant. "I would've been about ten or eleven at the time, my dad just said we've got Oasis on in the pub. I was absolutely buzzing, I was like 'no way'." Dean explained: "I can remember booking the Oasis tribute, and I told her it was Oasis. I didn't think she'd believe me. "I was always looking over to make sure Lily was ok, because of how busy it was and how young she was. So, I asked my mum to come along and I told my mum, 'she's really excited, but you've got to play along because I've told her it's the real Oasis. "My mum said it was cruel, but I thought it was great. As soon as they started, I looked at Lily and her eyes just lit up." Lily described the atmosphere as being amazing, despite not knowing it wasn't the real deal. She said: "For me, that could have been Knebworth, because it was just everyone who I loved was there and everyone was just having an amazing time. "I went to school telling everyone I'd seen Oasis and the teacher's kind of just agreed with me I think, they didn't want to ruin it." He joked: "I thought she was taking the mick at first, I thought it was pay back."
