The man, 61, had entered an MRI room while a scan was underway Wednesday afternoon at Nassau Open MRI. The machine's strong magnetic force drew him in by his metallic necklace, according to the Nassau County Police Department.
Police said the incident 'resulted in a medical episode' that left the man hospitalized in critical condition. Authorities did not release his name and did not have an update on the man's condition on Friday.
MRI machines 'employ a strong magnetic field' that 'exerts very powerful forces on objects of iron, some steels, and other magnetizable objects,' according to the National Institute of Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering, which says the units are 'strong enough to fling a wheelchair across the room.' The hospital team includes specialists in general surgery, dermatology, vascular surgery, neurosurgery, thoracic surgery, urology, plastic surgery, orthopedics, pediatrics, and maxillofacial surgery. Significantly, the facility also boasts a vital mobile unit dedicated to providing support and prosthetic limbs for amputees. The hospital teams were accompanied by 11 trucks loaded with humanitarian and relief aid and medical supplies, to provide the hospital with the necessary equipment to perform its duties, as part of the ongoing efforts undertaken by the Jordanian Armed Forces - the Arab Army. The people of the Gaza Strip expressed their deep gratitude and appreciation to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, under the leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah II Ibn Al Hussein, for its continued support and supportive stances toward the Palestinian people.

Gaza death toll surges to 58,895 amid ongoing Israeli genocide
Ammon News - At least 80 Palestinians were killed and 304 others were injured in the Gaza Strip over the last 24 hours as a result of the ongoing Israeli genocide in the region, according to medical sources. Local health authorities confirmed that the Palestinian death toll from the Israeli onslaught since October 2023 has risen to 58,895 fatalities, with an additional 140,980 people sustaining injuries.
