Boxing world champion set to have controversial win OVERTURNED after rare use of video replay

WORLD champion Emanuel Navarrete is set to have his win over Charly Suarez changed to a no-contest after a rare use of video replay.
Mexican Navarrete was defending his WBO super-featherweight title in San Diego when he was cut above his left eyebrow in round six.

By the eighth, ringside physician Dr. Robert Ruelaz ruled the fight needed to be stopped with Navarrete's vision impaired.
Per the rules of boxing, if a cut is caused by a punch and the bout is stopped it results in a TKO.
But, if deemed to have been caused by a headbutt then the fight goes to the judges scorecards at the time of the stoppage.
In this case, Navarrete led on the cards and was awarded a technical decision - retaining his 130lb title.
Video replay was used on the night and official Jack Reiss said there was no conclusive evidence to deem that a punch caused the cut.
Footage revealed a swiping left hook landing on Navarrete before the two came together shortly afterwards - making it unclear where the cut was caused.
But, in a subsequent review days after the bout, the California State Athletic Commission now look set to overturn the result, BoxingScene report.
It marks a rare occasion when a fight is overturned using replays in the days following the bout.

Had the punch been deemed to have caused the cut on the night of the fight it would have crowned Suarez as the new champ.
But, if Navarrete's win is indeed overturned to a no-contest then he will still retain the title with a rematch expected to be called.
He said after the fight: 'I felt it was a headbutt. I saw the review. It seems like a punch, but it exploded two layers of skin.
'I didn't want it to end. I was fine to keep going. I felt like the best rounds were still to come. But the doctor stopped the fight.
'He would be a great opponent. He is a great opponent. So a rematch would be good.'
Suarez added: 'I thought I had a chance to win the fight. I had five more rounds to try to win."

He showed promise last season and got off the mark in a Kempton maiden on comeback in April. That form was quickly left behind with a smooth handicap success at Sandown - before an excellent effort in the Britannia at Royal Ascot. He was only seventh in that hot contest but he was first home in his group getting the worst of the draw. He clocked a personal best when winning at Newmarket last time and relishes this mile trip. He goes on any ground so it won't matter what the weather does. BIG MOJO (3.05 Goodwood, nb) Likes it here and can show his class in the King George Qatar Stakes. DIEGO VENTURA (1.55 Goodwood, treble) He is just about the only runner in the field who is proven in testing conditions - and looks set to get just that. Templegate's TV verdicts 1.20 KYLE OF LOCHALSH is fancied to go three better than last year's fourth and land this marathon prize. He's on the same mark, handles any ground and shaped with promise on his reappearance. He's much more lightly raced than 12 months ago and looks primed to peak. Aggagio loves it round here and was impressive under Ashley Lewis last time but stamina beyond 2m remains a question mark. Align The Stars hasn't quite fired this year but ran well in a strong Royal Ascot handicap and is lurking on a handy mark. He has a good record here but came up short in this last year. Tashkhan is classy and thrives in deep ground should it rain, with similar comments applying to Zinc White. Sheradann has been knocking on the door and shapes as though this trip will suit. Irish raider Mordor is interesting as this stamina test could bring improvement. 1.55 DIEGO VENTURA is just about the only runner in the field who is proven in testing conditions. James Doyle's mount has been running well at Listed level in France and scored over seven furlongs at Longchamp in May. He then went well at Epsom before going down in a bunch finish at Chantilly last time. Conditions will be ideal and he has more to come. Cosmic Year has shown his best on good ground as he showed when second in the Irish 2,000 Guineas which is strong form. The ground may not be ideal but this is a fair drop in class which makes him a player. King Of Cities has been placed on tacky ground and sees out this trip well. He has yet to win this season but could go well under Ryan Moore. Seagulls Eleven was a solid second to non-runner Opera Ballo at Newmarket last time. He's unproven on this ground and needs a step forward. 2.30 FIFTH COLUMN can take another step up for the Gosdens. His only defeat this season came when a strong-finishing seventh in the Britannia at Royal Ascot, where he won his group and shaped like the best horse on the far side. He confirmed that when winning stylishly at Newmarket last time, and a 3lb penalty might not be enough to anchor this improving three-year-old who can beat his elders. Skukuza is the main threat. He's officially 8lb well in after two smooth wins at The Curragh, including a Listed last time, and is clearly thriving. Greek Order ran a screamer in the Royal Hunt Cup on his first start back from the US and again shaped well at Sandown behind Arisaig who is a contender here. He's a big player if things fall right. Ebt's Guard has run well here before and wasn't beaten far in the Royal Hunt Cup. 3.05 BIG MOJO can follow up last year's Glorious Goodwood win in the King George Qatar Stakes. Mick Appleby's flyer ran a cracker at Newmarket last time and looks up to this level. Aussie Asfoora will show her true colours here after a poor Ascot run, while She's Quality lives up to her name. Here's my guide to the field, where I rate them one (worst) to five (best): ASFOORA 4 FOOR star. Aussie raider won the King Charles III at Royal Ascot last year was just denied in this. Had excuses this year and could bounce back. BIG MOJO 5 BIG chance. Won Molecomb here last year and has progressed at three. Unlucky in the Commonwealth Cup and ran a huge race in the July Cup. Strong claims back at 5f. CELANDINE 2 HARD Cel. Chased home Big Mojo in last year's Molecomb and beat Time For Sandals over 6f at York. Needs to prove she enjoys 5f as much. CLARENDON HOUSE 1 DON for. Has run well over this C&D before but was poor at Epsom last time and needs more at this level. FROST AT DAWN 3 HOT Frost. Won 6f Listed race earlier this season and showed real speed when second in the King Charles III at Royal Ascot. Can go close again. JM JUNGLE 2 JUNGLE fever. Won over C&D at this meeting in 2023 and landed the Epsom Dash in June. Ran well in Listed last time but not up to this. KERDOS 3 TAKE Ker. Fifth in this race last year and good run in the King Charles III. Likes tacky ground and cheekpieces may help. KHAADEM 3 KHA motors. Won this in 2022 and has landed two Group 1s. He's unbeaten in two runs here and looks a big place price. MANACCAN 1 DANGER Man. Solid Listed performer over this trip but has been struggling for a while. NIGHT RAIDER 3 NIGHT shifts. Unbeaten in four AW starts including a Listed 6f at Newcastle. Turf form not as hot but it's early days. SHE'S QUALITY 4 QUALITY pays. Ran a stormer when second in a hot Group 2 at Haydock in May. Sandown didn't suit last time and this test looks much more suitable. SPARTAN ARROW 2 BLUNT arrow. Has improved since sporting cheekpieces and took a French Listed prize latest. Goes well here and track/trip suits but this is much tougher opposition. TIME FOR SANDALS 3 TIME trial. Surprise winner of the Commonwealth Cup over 6f at Ascot. Could improve again but drop in trip an unknown. TOWN AND COUNTRY 1 TOWN and out. Few miles on the clock and is a Listed winner over this trip. Progressive but needs a lot more in this company. 3.45 SOCIALITE can get the party started. Charlie Hills' four-year-old can take this prize with a bold front-running show. He quickened smartly to win at Windsor on handicap debut, shaping as though this extra furlong would suit. Lightly raced, progressive and effective on any ground, he could prove tough to pass from a handy draw. Liberty Lane is the main danger, with a soft-ground Cambridgeshire win and a Listed success here this year marking him out as a serious player. Haunted Dream won this race last year and had excuses at Royal Ascot. He's a big threat back at this track. Godwinson is thriving after wins in the Lincoln and at Newcastle. He'll be right there if liking this longer trip. Fox Legacy is flying and isn't written off provided the rain stays away. Brave Co Down are undone as Manchester United set up SuperCup NI Premier Final clash with Southampton
Emmanuel Ziro's goal eight minutes into the second half secured a 1-0 win for United and broke the hearts of a brave County Down side, who were tough to break down and a match for the boys from Old Trafford in spells throughout the game. It will be an all-English battle in the decider at Coleraine Showgrounds (8pm) after Southampton brushed off the challenge of Hamiilton Academicals, winning 4-1. United have won the Premier tournament five times this century, as well as one Junior title and given that record, plus a previous history beyond the 21st century, there will be a level of expectation on them to triumph again. 'If these lads are going to play for Manchester United they are going to have to deal with pressure so it's really nice practice for them,' said United coach Tom Curtis. 'This tournament is a real test for the boys against really well organised and well motivated teams and it's a fantastic experience for everybody.' United were patient in their approach throughout the game, happy to retain the ball, rotate possession and probe for openings when they may be found. That meant there wasn't a lot for Down goalkeeper Max Sykes to do, particularly in the opening stages and also in general throughout the game. In contrast Down were aggressive in trying to win the ball back and keen to attacking quickly when the did have the ball. That contrast was evident when Down's Stephen Kelly had the first real chance of the game with a shot that sailed just over the bar before United could muster anything of note. That quickly changed when Samuel O'Brien slipped a pass wide to Edson DeJonge-Seiros on the left and Sykes did well to save. Kelly's pace was a major asset to Down when they got the chance to break and when he got a run on the United defence and there was a lucky escape for United when he fed Zak Magowa, only for the ball to get stuck under the striker's feet.. The longer the game went on the more likely it looked that one goal would settle it and that's how it turned out. Abdoulaye Douka Nkoto, who lit up the tournament with two beautifully taken goals against Rangers on Tuesday night, again showed his quality with a superb through ball that split the defence, sending Ziro through one-on-one with Sykes and he rolled the ball home from 10 yards out. It was hard on Down who had been strong, disciplined and had coped with much of what United had to offer up to that stage and they can be proud of the performances that got them to the Semi-Final stage. George Robinson netted a first-half hat-trick in Southampton's victory over Hamilton. Archie Lovatt added a third as the Saints all but wrapped up the win by half time. Josh Carson netted a consolation for the Scots. Intercontinental beat Rangers 2-1 to take their place in the Globe Final, where they will meet Ichifuna, who beat Mexican side Tigres 1-0. Brighton won a penalty shoot-out against County Tyrone after a 0-0 draw to take their place in the Vase Final, where they will play County Londonderry after their 3-2 win against AFC Bournemouth. County Antrim are in the Bowl Final after a 3-1 win over County Fermanagh and that will be a local affair after County Armagh won 2-1 against West Cork Academy. County Armagh boss Darragh Peden says his boys are having fun all the way to the Junior Final Darragh Peden's 'fun and enjoyment' approach has put County Armagh Juniors one step away from the ultimate joy at the SuperCup NI. An all-county Final against County Antrim, who beat St Patrick's Athletic 3-0, awaits after a thrilling 5-4 win over Celtic and if the decider has even half the excitement then fans are in for a real treat. Armagh conceded their first goal of the tournament just a minute into the game, but 25 minutes later they were 4-1 up after a terrific response. Ethan Connolly benefited from Alfie Davidson's tenacity in chasing the ball down to equalise 10 minutes after falling behind, Will Davison swept home when the ball was delivered across the box five minutes later and it was Davidson himself who fired a thunderbolt from the edge of the box to make it 3-1. Armagh's momentum built further when Eogham Mallon scored from the penalty spot after he had been fouled. Even after Flynn Watson got one back for Celtic, Davidson again riffled home a shot from distance to keep Armagh three goals to the good. When Henry Atkinson's deflected shot found the net on the stroke of half-time and Zion Pullan headed home from a free kick early in the second-half to bring Celtic back to within one goal, the game really was on a knife edge. Mallon missed from the spot when presented with a chance to finally kill off the Scottish giants' challenge and it was the attitude of his players throughout a testing final 20 minutes that impressed Peden as much as anything else. 'I set the camp up to make sure that for Juniors first of all it was going to be fun and enjoyment and a balance between hopefully winning some football matches, which brings enjoyment,' said Peden. 'I'm really pleased with the second-half because we were asked a real question against a top team and ground out a result. Sometimes that's what you need to do. 'At 1-0 down, they had to show character and they hadn't really been served that up because we hadn't conceded a goal previously, but good gutsy characters, passing tests and can be better.' Antrim will now aim to emulate their counterparts from 2017 and 2018, who became the first county team to win the Junior competition, after their Premier team had done so in 2015. Michael Mulholland continued his goalscoring streak with the opener in their win over St Pat's with another superb finish and two goals from Seanan Wright secured their passage to the Final. Blackburn Rovers will contest the Globe decider after a 5-2 victory over Bohemians. They will face County Down, who had a superb 3-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur. County Tyrone reached the Vase Final with a 2-0 win over County Fermanagh and they will meet County Londonderry, who had a 2-1 win over West Ham United. The Bowl decider will be an all-English affair between Crewe Alexandra and Charlton Athletic. Crewe beat Chicago City 3-2, while Charlton won 2-1 against Plymouth Argyle. Linfield bidding to put last year's Minor Final heartache behind them after shocking Blackburn Rovers in last four Linfield will aim to go one better than 2024 after completing a hugely dramatic comeback before beating Blackburn Rovers on penalties to reach the SuperCup NI Minor Final. The Blues, who lost last year's decider to Crusaders, face Belfast rivals Cliftonville in Friday's Coleraine Showgrounds showpiece (11am), as the Reds too booked their place with a 7-6 shootout win over Shamrock Rovers after a 1-1 draw. A display of character brought Linfield level after falling 2-0 down before winning 7-6 on penalties, with only one kick missed. Divine Shitu shot across goal to put Blackburn ahead in the 22nd minute after Jonas Henderson had made a couple of impressive early saves. When Jacob Woods netted after a shot had come off the bar four minutes later, Blackburn looked in control. Linfield have faced adversity throughout the tournament, losing both Lucas Moore and Aaron Duffy to broken arms early in the week before Ronan Laverty pulled out before kick-off, and reacted with great maturity. They halved the deficit 11 minutes into the second period when Blackburn goalkeeper Jacob Lumor failed to deal with Cruz O'Neill's corner — the ball just about crossing the line — and that swung the momentum in Linfield's favour. With just a couple of minutes to go, Olly Roney sent the ball deep into the Rovers half, O'Neill crossed low into the box and Oliver Prenter hit what was a deserved equaliser. The composure of Prenter, O'Neill, Noah Clarke, Sam DeLargy Jake Booth, Zayne Leckey and Roney as they scored from the spot was impressive for such young players and when the unfortunate Teddy Simpson saw his kick saved superbly by Henderson, the celebrations began. 'That was heart, that was desire, that was energy and they showed real resilience because other teams against an opposition like that with real quality could lie down, get beaten by four or five goals,' said Linfield coach Scott Boyd. Shamrock Rovers beat Brighton 3-2 to win the Girls Premier tournament. Manchester United beat Aston Villa to win the Globe, while Northern Ireland were 4-1 winners over Surf Select in the Vase decider. United were also victorious in the Girls Junior tournament, beating Surf Select 3-0. Larne won the Globe competition thanks to a 5-4 victory over Kilmarnock, while FC United were 5-1 winners over Crusaders to win the Vase.

Alongside Scots singer Rianne Downey, the Beautiful South legend is the headline act for the opening night of this year's Belladrum festival in the Highlands. Heaton, who also fronted the Housemartins, is a big football fan. He's well known for being a huge Sheffield United supporter and even played a huge show at the club's Bramall Lane home back in May. While he's a bit far from his favourite team's home, Heaton has been spotted at TWO different Scottish footie grounds. SPFL League One outfit Inverness Caledonian Thistle shared a picture of Heaton at their Caledonian Stadium home in the hours leading up to his headline gig. The snap showed the Rotterdam singer pitchside with the club's groundsman Dale Stephen. It seems he didn't leave empty handed either with the club telling fans to "watch out for his ICTFC pin badge at his performance tonight." But it seems another club in the city made their very own pitch for Heaton to pick them as his Scottish team! Highland League club Clachnacuddin are located just a five minute drive away from Inverness CT's home stadium. Scott Kellacher on saving Inverness Caley Thistle from the brink, his Celtic days & meeting Al Pacino And Heaton popped in there too! The club shared an image of the music hero on their pitch - and revealed they'd made him a MEMBER of their supporters' trust. Clachnacuddin posted: "Perfect 10. "We were delighted to welcome along to Grant Street tonight's headlining Belladrum act, Paul Heaton.
