Nasser: I have a very special relationship with SS Rajamouli

There's a calculated calmness that draws you in when a prolific legend like Nasser talks. His words flow with an ease of someone who listens more but also carries the wisdom of years. In this exclusive conversation with Cinema Express about SonyLIV's Mayasabha: Rise of the Titans, his upcoming original Telugu series directed by Deva Katta and premiering on SonyLIV on August 7, Nasser talks with a quiet conviction in his voice.
Firstly on whether the veteran actor is a part of SS Rajamouli's SSMB29, he (laughs) and reveals, "I was involved in an initial serious discussion about preparing actors. I am not a part of the film yet. But he may call me anytime. And I have a very special relationship with Rajamouli. We know each other from his first film. I appreciate him because he never talks to anybody about anything other than cinema. And when Rajamouli narrates a scene, that is like a story by itself."

Vijay Deverakonda's Kingdom Faces Protests For Hurting Tamil Sentiments

Last Updated: The Telugu film Kingdom, starring Vijay Deverakonda, faces protests in Tamil Nadu for allegedly misrepresenting Tamil identity and hurting religious sentiments. The release of the Telugu film Kingdom, starring Vijay Deverakonda, has triggered widespread protests in Tamil Nadu, with several groups accusing the film of misrepresenting Tamil identity and hurting religious sentiments. The film, directed by Gowtam Tinnanuri, premiered globally on July 31 but has since become the focus of a growing controversy. Criticism has largely stemmed from Tamil nationalist group Naam Tamilar Katchi (NTK), which has taken strong exception to certain elements in the film. Members of the group claim Kingdom portrays Sri Lankan Tamils in a negative light. Further anger was directed at the film's decision to name its antagonist 'Murugan', a name associated with one of Tamil Nadu's most revered deities, Lord Murugan. NTK condemned these creative choices, calling them deliberate and insensitive. According to the group, the film maligns both the identity and cultural history of Tamils. In response, protests were staged outside multiple theatres across the state, with party members demanding that Kingdom be banned from screening in Tamil Nadu. One of the more serious incidents occurred in Ramanathapuram, where NTK supporters gathered outside a cinema hall to obstruct the film's screening. Protesters raised slogans and called for an immediate stop to the show. The situation escalated when police intervened to disperse the crowd, leading to a confrontation between law enforcement and demonstrators. A minor scuffle reportedly broke out during the standoff, prompting the deployment of additional forces to restore order. While no injuries have been reported, security remains heightened in the area to prevent further disturbances. The film features Vijay Deverakonda in the lead, alongside Bhagyashree and Satyadev in key roles. Despite its star cast and scale, the film's reception in Tamil Nadu has been clouded by the controversy surrounding its content. NTK has renewed calls for government intervention, pressing the Tamil Nadu administration to impose a ban on the film, which it claims spreads anti-Tamil narratives and disregards deeply held cultural beliefs. As tensions persist, political observers warn that the controversy may intensify if no response is issued by the filmmakers or the censor board. Talking about the box office collections, according to the latest figures from Sacnilk, Kingdom earned just Rs 2.25 crore on Day 5, its lowest so far. The film had kicked off with a strong opening of Rs 18 crore on Thursday, but the weekend didn't see any big jump. It collected Rs 7.5 crore on Saturday and Rs 8 crore on Sunday. With Monday and Tuesday showing a clear dip, Kingdom's total box office collection now stands at Rs 43.15 crore. At the heart of Kingdom is Vijay Deverakonda's Suri, a simple police constable with a very personal mission. He goes undercover in Sri Lanka to take down a dangerous drug cartel, hoping it'll somehow lead him to his long-lost brother, Siva (played by Satyadev). But things get messier than he imagined. He soon crosses paths with the menacing cartel kingpin Murugan (Venkitesh), and what follows is a high-stakes game of deception, danger, and emotional turmoil. Helping him navigate this chaos is Dr Madhu (Bhagyashri Borse), who is also working undercover. First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. The popular pan-India star talked about the legacy of his father, Nandamuri Harikrishna, and his grandfather, NT Rama Rao, in an interview with Esquire. The 42-year-old cast a shadow on the future of the family's cinematic legacy, by saying he is not sure if his sons want to become said, "I don't know what's going to happen with the legacy of films in the family. Or who's going to hold the baton after me. I haven't planned for all that."advertisementHe went on, "I do not want to be one of those fathers who says: 'Tumko bhi actor banna hai (You need to become an actor too)'. I don't believe in that; I want to be a bridge rather than a barrier, someone who gives them exposure to the world and other cultures. I want to give them the opportunity to go out and experience it for themselves." While he lives and breathes cinema, it's important for Jr NTR, now that he is in his late 40s, to spend as much time as possible with his family. The new villain in YRF's spy universe highlighted that he never misses any opportunity to be with his sons, or at least consciously reserves Sundays to spend time with said, "Earlier, I used to shoot seven days a week, 30 days a month. But now I insist on taking Sunday off and spending time with Abhay and Bhargava, because that is the only day I have with them."The actor, who's playing a negative role alongside Hrithik Roshan in Ayan Mukerji's 'War 2', added, "As they get older and move to higher grades in school, that whole mahaul (environment) of bonding thoda kam ho jaata hai (it gets smaller every time). That's why I make it a point to take time off on major festivals because I want to teach them the culture behind them."While NTR is aware of the magnificent legacy that he has to celebrate every day of his life, he is also conscious of the legacy that he wants to leave behind. For the popular Telugu superstar, the idea is to be remembered for his work, but more for the kind of person he is."I feel there are two images that we portray: the reel and the real. I prefer the real. The more real you are, the more you connect with the masses. I want to be remembered for telling stories that resonate. But most of all, I want to be remembered as an honest man with emotions," he explained.'War 2' is Jr NTR's big Bollywood debut. The film is a prominent piece from YRF's spy universe, which also features Salman Khan's 'Tiger' series and Shah Rukh Khan's 'Pathaan'.
