Pressley left 'satisfied' at Montrose hammering after 'concerning' first half

BBC News27-07-2025
Dundee manager Steven Pressley was pleased to see a second-half turnaround from his side after a "concerning" opening 45 minutes.A Simon Murray penalty - the captain's first of the season - set Steven Pressley's side on their way early on, but the new Dens Park boss felt his side were lacklustre for periods of the first half.Dundee ended a disappointing group campaign with a 5-0 hammering of third-tier visitors Montrose, to finish third in their league cup group."I was obviously pleased with the result, and I thought in the second half in particular we were much better," said Pressley."Much better as a unit, as a team, more synchronised in our pressing and our decision making, but I was a little bit concerned in the first half."We actually started the game really well, really aggressively and I was excited with our opening 10 or 15 minutes, but I just felt that we became a little bit disjointed at times."There were some good things in the second half and of course, three set-play goals again, which is a big part of what we're working on."So, the second half, [I was] much more satisfied, first half a little bit concerned on certain aspects."

Bills coach: WR Khalil Shakir, CB Maxwell Hairston 'week-to-week'

August 3 - Buffalo Bills wide receiver Khalil Shakir and rookie cornerback Maxwell Hairston are considered "week-to-week" as they work their way back from their respective injuries, coach Sean McDermott said Sunday. Shakir is nursing a high-ankle sprain sustained in practice on Friday, while Hairston injured the LCL in his knee last week. Shakir, 25, received a four-year contract extension worth just over $53 million this offseason after recording team-leading totals in catches (76) and receiving yards (821) in 2024. He also had four touchdown receptions. In three playoff games, Shakir added 18 catches for 174 yards. The Bills were eliminated in the AFC Championship Game, losing 32-29 to the Kansas City Chiefs. Hairston, who turns 22 on Wednesday, was selected by the Bills with the 30th overall pick of the 2025 NFL Draft out of Kentucky. He is competing for a significant role in the Buffalo secondary. He was the fastest player at the 2025 NFL Scouting Combine in the 40-yard dash (4.28 seconds). --Field Level Media

Newcastle ‘target Champions League winner as transfer alternative if Man Utd win Benjamin Sesko race'

NEWCASTLE UNITED have added PSG star Goncalo Ramos to their list of striker targets, it is reported. The Magpies are prioritising their pursuit of Slovenian striker Benjamin Sesko, but view Ramos as a possible alternative should they miss out to Man Utd. 4 4 The Daily Mail report Newcastle could go back in for the Portuguese, who they considered signing from Benfica in 2022. They ended up signing Alexander Isak in that window instead, and Ramos moved to PSG the following summer. Since then he has struggled to fully stake his claim to a spot in the starting line-up, but did contribute to their Champions League -winning campaign last season. He netted three goals in that run, including a 93rd-minute goal to seal their 4-2 victory over Man City in January. In total, Ramos has notched 33 goals in 86 appearances for the French giants. The 24-year-old would have some hefty shoes to fill, being viewed as an alternative to Sesko in Newcastle's bid to support or even replace Isak up front. The Swede cemented himself as one of the best forwards in world football before he announced his intentions to leave the club last month. Newcastle are still being rivalled for Sesko's signature by Man Utd, with the Red Devils reportedly confident that they are his preferred destination. But that did not stop the Magpies from launching a £70million move for the RB Leipzig man yesterday. Sesko, 22, has scored 39 goals in 87 appearances since arriving in Germany from RB Salzburg two years ago.
