Maa box office Day 2: Kajol film crosses Rs 10 crore after solid Saturday growth
Kajol's latest film, 'Maa', is off to a good start at the box office. After a decent opening, the mythological horror film saw a notable rise in collections on its second day.According to early estimates stated by tracking website, Sacnilk,, 'Maa' earned around Rs 6 crore (India nett) on Saturday, taking its total two-day collection to an Rs 10.65 crore.advertisementThe Vishal Furia directorial, which hit theatres on June 27, opened to mixed reviews from critics but has found appreciation among audiences, particularly for Kajol's powerful performance and the film's striking visual effects. On Day 1, ;Maa' had collected Rs 4.65 crore, and its Saturday growth hints at positive word-of-mouth traction.
A spine-chilling chapter from the 'Shaitaan' universe, 'Maa' blends mythology and horror, telling the story of a mother who transforms into Goddess Kali to battle a centuries-old curse. Kajol leads the cast, supported by Indraneil Sengupta, Kherin Sharma, and Ronit Roy.India Today's review of 'Maa' reads, "'Maa' follows quite a predictable arc: an ordinary mother with a child in danger, a cursed past, a mysterious mytho-creature, and then, of course, the divine awakening. The setting makes you want to enter the world, but the horror genre thrives on tension, surprise, jump scares, and some disruption. The plots are guessable and the beats too familiar, taking the edge off what could have been a powerful ride."While addressing the media, Kajol called it her 'strongest role ever'. Kajol plays a mother determined to protect her daughter against all odds, a role she describes as both intense and deeply personal.- EndsYou May Also Like

‘Sitaare Zameen Par' beats ‘Ghajini' to Become Aamir Khan's 6th Biggest Hit at the Box Office
Aamir Khan is back. His film Sitaare Zameen Par is a box office success. The movie earned Rs 122.65 crore. It beat Ghajini's record. Sitaare Zameen Par shows Aamir's strong connection with the audience. The film did well in its second weekend. It might challenge Thugs of Hindostan next. New film releases could affect its run. Aamir Khan 's latest film Sitaare Zameen Par has officially crossed a major milestone at the box office, becoming the sixth biggest hit of the superstar's career in terms of Hindi net collections. After ten days in theatres, the emotional drama has raked in Rs 122.65 crore across all languages, with its Hindi version alone contributing Rs 121.88 crore. With this the film has surpassed the lifetime of his 2008 blockbuster Ghajini (Rs 114 crore), which for years was considered one of the benchmarks of success in Indian cinema as it was the film which opened the Rs 100 crore club. Exclusive | Kajol CANDID On Horror Fears and Son Yug's Voice Debut In 'Karate Kids: Legends' This achievement marks a significant comeback for Aamir Khan after the underwhelming performance of Laal Singh Chaddha in 2022, which had netted only Rs 61.12 crore in Hindi during its theatrical run. Sitaare Zameen Par not only brings him back into box office form but also re-establishes his connect with audiences, especially in the emotional and socially conscious storytelling space — something that has been his stronghold since Taare Zameen Par. SZP opened to a solid Rs 10.7 crore on its first Friday and saw tremendous growth over the weekend, collecting Rs 20.2 crore on Saturday and Rs 27.25 crore on Sunday. Even though there was a predictable dip on Monday and Tuesday, the collections held steady mid-week and gained momentum again during the second weekend, with Rs 14.50 crore on its second Sunday (early estimates). This strong hold suggests that word-of-mouth is working in the film's favour. The success of the film showcases strong audience pull and brand loyalty to Aamir Khan's style of placed at number six on Aamir Khan's list of top-grossing films, Sitaare Zameen Par sits just behind Thugs of Hindostan (Rs 145.55 crore), and ahead of iconic titles like Ghajini (Rs 114 crore), Talaash (Rs 93.61 crore), Taare Zameen Par (Rs 62.95 crore), and Laal Singh Chaddha (Rs 61.12 crore). As the film enters its second week, the path ahead seems promising. If the current trend continues, Sitaare Zameen Par could even challenge Thugs of Hindostan for the fifth spot by next weekend. This would be despite Anurag Basu releasing his Metro … In Dino starring Aditya Roy Kapoor and Sara Ali Khan along with Akshaye Khanna 's Akshardham as both new films have failed to generate any major buzz.

Vishnu Manchu's Kannappa opening weekend numbers are in: Where does it land among biggest Telugu openers of 2025?
Mukesh Kumar Singh's Vishnu Manchu-starrer Kannappa has everything going for it. It boasts of a star cast the likes of Prabhas, Akshay Kumar, Mohanlal and Sarathkumar. Beautiful locales of New Zealand passing off for a south India untouched by modernity. And above all, the gut and gumption of Vishnu, who believed Friday would be his. Vishnu Manchu plays a hunter called Thinnadu in Kannappa. The issue is that Vishnu had aimed high and made such claims before. Be it with Voter, Mosagallu, or Ginna, the actor aimed to push the bar, but it never really landed. He even admitted recently that 'no Tollywood director' would be willing to work with him on Kannappa, and the failure of his last few films only added to the mistrust. But boy, did Vishnu prove the naysayers wrong, and how. Kannappa is still laden with issues that the audience has consistently pointed out since the film's release. It seems to be a general consensus that the first half of the film tests your patience, but the fag end of the second half soars. Despite all that, according to Sacnilk, the film managed to bring in ₹ 23.75 crore net in India in its opening weekend. These numbers are a personal best for Vishnu, who has been struggling to star in films that leave an impact for a while now. His last film, Ginna, made ₹ 24 lakh worldwide. And the much-hyped Mosagallu lived up to its title and brought in ₹ 1.65 crore worldwide. As Vishnu himself admits, the audience might have been lured to the theatres to watch Kannappa with Prabhas featuring in an exciting cameo, but Vishnu also seems to have finally turned things around for himself. Where Kannappa stands in 2025 films Kannappa's opening weekend numbers are impressive, but the film still has a long way to go to find its footing or even break even, as it was made on a budget of approximately ₹ 200 crore. Ram Charan's Game Changer might be a disappointment in the long run, but it still registered a ₹ 88.5 crore net opening weekend in India that any Telugu film has yet to beat. Venkatesh's Sankranthiki Vasthunam comes second with its ₹ 60.5 crore opening. Movie name Opening weekend numbers (net India) Game Changer ₹ 88.5 crore Sankranthiki Vasthunam ₹ 60.5 crore Daaku Maharaaj ₹ 50.4 crore HIT: The Third Case ₹ 41.9 crore Thandel ₹ 36.35 crore Mad Square ₹ 25.25 crore Kannappa ₹ 23.75 crore Court ₹ 14.8 crore Balakrishna's Daaku Maharaaj had an opening of ₹ 50.5 crore, while Nani's HIT: The Third Case had brought in ₹ 41.9 crore. Naga Chaitanya's Thandel had made ₹ 36.35 crore in its opening weekend. Narne Nithiin's ensemble film MAD Square made ₹ 25.25 crore, beating Kannappa by a thin margin. Kannappa's opening numbers have, however, beaten Priyadarshi's much-loved film Court, which had made ₹ 14.8 crore. While this still leaves Kannappa in a cushy spot, given history, Vishnu and the film still have the uphill task of sustaining numbers through the week and keeping the audience's interest until the film is in the clear. Will he manage to do that? Time will tell.
