Cowboys Return Man KaVontae Turpin Arrested on Marijuana and Weapon Charges
Turpin was arrested by police in Allen on Saturday. The 28-year-old is out of jail on bond. There is no record of an attorney for Turpin. The team declined to comment.
The former TCU standout is going into his fourth season with the Cowboys and recently signed an $18 million, three-year contract. Turpin's TCU career ended in 2018 when he was kicked off the team after the school found out about a second domestic violence case against him. The case from New Mexico was discovered following an alleged incident with his girlfriend at an off-campus apartment in Fort Worth. Both cases involved the same woman.
The Cowboys signed Turpin out of the USFL in 2022. He had played in several satellite football leagues before joining the USFL. Turpin secured his spot on the team by returning a punt and a kickoff for touchdowns in a 2022 preseason game. He was one of the best return men in the NFL his first two years but didn't have any returns for TDs until his All-Pro season in 2024. Turpin returned a punt and a kickoff for scores last season.
Turpin's role as a receiver has grown, and first-year coach Brian Schottenheimer, who will call the plays on offense, has indicated the speedy and diminutive player will be targeted more often in his scheme. Turpin had career bests of 31 catches for 420 yards and scored two touchdowns last season. He had three TDs receiving and one rushing in 2023.

A federal magistrate judge recommended on Monday that the case proceed against a Wisconsin judge indicted on allegations that she helped a man in the country illegally evade US immigration agents seeking to arrest him in her courthouse. Milwaukee County Circuit Judge Hannah Dugan was arrested in April and indicted on federal charges in May. She pleaded not guilty. 'We are disappointed in the magistrate judge's non-binding recommendation, and we will appeal it,' Dugan's attorney Steven Biskupic, a former federal prosecutor, said in a statement. 'This is only one step in what we expect will be a long journey to preserve the independence and integrity of our courts.' Joseph wrote in her recommendation that while judges have immunity from civil lawsuits seeking monetary damages when engaging in judicial acts, that does not apply to criminal charges like those in this case. Joseph also rejected Dugan's other arguments in favor of dismissal. 'It is important to note that nothing said here speaks to the merits of the allegations against Dugan,' the judge said in the recommendation. 'Dugan is presumed innocent, and innocent she remains unless and until the government proves the allegations against her beyond a reasonable doubt to a jury at trial.' No trial date has been set. Dugan is charged with concealing an individual to prevent arrest, a misdemeanor, and obstruction, which is a felony. Prosecutors say she escorted Eduardo Flores-Ruiz, 31, and his lawyer out of her courtroom through a back door on April 18 after learning that US Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents were in the courthouse seeking to arrest him for being in the country without permanent legal status. Agents arrested Ruiz outside of the courthouse after a brief foot chase. Dugan could face up to six years in prison and a $350,000 fine if convicted on both counts. Her case is similar to one brought during the first Trump administration against a Massachusetts judge who was accused of helping a man sneak out a courthouse back door to evade a waiting immigration enforcement agent. That case was eventually dismissed.

Colson Montgomery traveled a bumpy road from top prospect to the major leagues. The young shortstop was joined on the journey by the Chicago White Sox. That made Monday night even sweeter for the player and the rebuilding team. Montgomery made his home debut for Chicago in the opener of a three-game series against Toronto. He played in his first major league game on Friday night at Colorado and went 5 for 10 while helping the White Sox take two of three against the Rockies. 'I'm just so happy to be part of this organization and them just believing in me to be honest,' a smiling Montgomery said. 'Because there's a lot that goes into, you know, last year you don't really play the best and then you start this year not really playing the best. And there was just never a doubt in their mind with the White Sox.' First baseman Ryan Noda was placed on the 10-day injured list before the matchup with Toronto and infielder Tristan Gray was recalled from Triple-A Charlotte. Noda has a right quad strain. Montgomery, 23, was a first-round pick in the 2021 amateur draft. He appeared to be on his way to a big league debut last season, but he had a tough year with Charlotte.
