HBL PSL X: Shaheen Afridi, Haris Rauf achieve major milestone in T20 cricket
Lahore Qalandars' pace duo, Shaheen Shah Afridi and Haris Rauf, reached a significant career milestone during their match against Islamabad United in the ongoing HBL Pakistan Super League (PSL X), becoming the latest Pakistani bowlers to claim 300 wickets in T20 cricket.
Shaheen achieved the feat in his 216th T20 match, becoming the fastest Pakistani and fourth-fastest bowler globally to reach 300 T20 wickets.
Haris Rauf followed closely, accomplishing the milestone in his 228th match, making him the second-fastest Pakistani to reach the mark.
The previous record for the fastest Pakistani to 300 T20 wickets was jointly held by Mohammad Amir and Wahab Riaz, who achieved the milestone in 256 innings each.
The achievement marks a major personal and national milestone for both bowlers in the shortest format of the game.

Pak abolish vice-captain position
The position of vice-captain has effectively been abolished while waiting for Shadab Khan's return. After the Bangladesh tour, no vice-captain has been appointed for the upcoming white-ball series against the West Indies either. Mike Hesson and Shadab Khan were both part of the HBL Pakistan Super League franchise Islamabad United as coach and player, respectively, and developed a good understanding during that time. The coach has full confidence in the all-rounder's abilities and considers him a good team man. Sources revealed that it was Hesson who recommended not appointing a vice-captain for the Bangladesh tour, as he was waiting for Shadab Khan's return, which currently does not seem imminent. No announcement has been made for a vice-captain for the West Indies series either. In the ODI squad, Mohammad Rizwan's deputy is Salman Ali Agha. Further sources disclosed that an "influential selector" is staunchly against Shadab Khan's inclusion in the team. In a recent meeting, he reportedly stated that bringing the senior all-rounder back into the team was a mistake, and he absolutely should not be made vice-captain. According to him, Salman Ali Agha is a non-political cricketer who focuses solely on his game. Although Shadab was the vice-captain, he was often seen leading the team on the field. He would change his batting order on his own and, at times, pushed for the inclusion of certain players. Due to his connection with Islamabad United, he has good relations with Hesson, which he allegedly uses to his advantage. It is important to note that there is no possibility of Shadab Khan being fit in time for the Asia Cup; he is likely to return in October. It is still unclear whether a vice-captain will be appointed for the mega event or not.

Rizwan to lead Pakistan in three ODIs against West Indies
LAHORE: Wicket-keeper batsman Mohammad Rizwan will lead Pakistan in the three-match ODI series against West Indies, as the Men's National Selection Committee named a 16-member ODI squad on Friday. The series will be played at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Trinidad & Tobago on August 8, 10 and 12. Right-handed batter Hasan Nawaz is the only uncapped player in the ODI squad, while Babar Azam and Shaheen Shah Afridi are part of the ODI squad. Pakistan will also play three T20Is against the West Indies, scheduled on 31st July, 2nd and 3rd August, at the Central Broward Park & Broward County Stadium in Lauderhill, USA. Salman Ali Agha will captain the T20I side, while fast bowlers Haris Rauf, Hasan Ali and Shaheen Shah Afridi return to the squad in this format. Following the conclusion of the three-match T20I series in Bangladesh, Pakistan will arrive in the USA on Sunday, 27th July, a PCB spokesman said. Photo: REUTERS Joe Root climbed to second on the all-time list of Test run-scorers after hitting a sparkling 38th century on Friday as England hunted a series-clinching win against India. Ben Stokes' men, 2-1 up in the five-match series, were 433-4 at tea on the third day of the fourth Test at Old Trafford, 75 runs ahead of the toiling tourists. The imperious Root, who had just overtaken retired Australia great Ricky Ponting in the run-scoring charts, was 121 not out, with Stokes unbeaten on 36. Earlier, Ollie Pope (71) put on 144 for the third wicket with Root before he was dismissed by Washington Sundar, who also removed Harry Brook cheaply to give India renewed hope. But skipper Stokes ensured England regained the initiative, celebrating at the non-striker's end as Root reached 13,379 runs with a single behind point, moving one ahead of Ponting's figure. "Congratulations, Joe Root. Magnificent, second on the table," Ponting said on Sky Sports. England earlier resumed on 225-2 following a blistering opening partnership of 166 in 32 overs between Zak Crawley and Ben Duckett on day two, with Pope 20 not out and Root on 11. India's pacemen had too often been wayward on Thursday and Jasprit Bumrah saw his first ball Friday drift down the legside to be clipped away for four by Root in elegant fashion. Root then uppercut Mohammed Siraj over the slips for another boundary. On 21, the former England skipper walked a long away across his stumps only to miss an intended glance off Siraj. India reviewed for lbw after Ahsan Raza ruled in Root's favour but replays upheld the Pakistani umpire's decision, indicating the ball would have missed leg stump. There was another scare when Root, on 22, was nearly run out but Ravindra Jadeja's shy at the stump missed. Root then leapfrogged India's Rahul Dravid and South Africa's Jacques Kallis into third place in Test cricket's list of run-scorers. Pope, who drove Siraj for a superb four between cover and mid-off, completed a 93-ball fifty before Root followed him to that landmark in 99 balls. Spin, however, eventually paid dividends for India where pace had failed. Pope had added just one run to his lunchtime score of 70 when, beaten by the drift from off-spinner Sundar, he edged a flicked front-foot drive to KL Rahul at slip. England were soon 349-4 when Brook, on three, was stumped by Dhruv Jurel, deputising for injured India wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant. Root reached his century in 178 balls with a leg glance for four off debutant paceman Anshul Kamboj. His 38th Test century drew him level with Sri Lanka's Kumar Sangakkara in fourth place on the list of most hundreds in a Test career.
