Henchman who sparked Edinburgh gangland turf war over botched drug deal caged
A man who allegedly sparked the recent gangland turf war over a botched drug deal is said to be the henchman for gang boss Mark Richardson.
Michael Heeps was jailed this week for his part in firebombings and a 'machete attack' across Scotland's central belt and it is now claimed he orchestrated the transaction which ripped off Dubai-based Mr Big Ross McGill after he was allegedly handed £500K in fake money for a raft of cocaine.
Heeps, 34, was one of six men convicted at the High Court in Glasgow on Tuesday over a series of crimes, including a machete attack that left a man's hand hanging off and torching the cars of prison officers at HMP Addiewell, the Daily Record reports.
A judge branded their actions as 'out of control gangsterism.'
John Murray, 25, Lee Ridgway, 32, Dale Bauld, 33, Damien Mullen, 26, and Ryan McGovern, 33, were also jailed and all of the men will be sentenced next month.

An underworld source told the Record that Heeps is one of Edinburgh kingpin Richardson's most trusted lieutenants.
He explained how Heeps organised the drug deal in the United Arab Emirates from his jail cell while he was on remand in prison.
The source said: "Heeps sent a wee guy over to be introduced to Ross McGill through a middleman from Edinburgh and told him to build up some trust and buy smaller weights of cocaine from him.
"Once he had McGill onside, he was told to buy five kilos of cocaine and use the fake bank notes.
"Heeps obviously thought McGill was just a new guy on the scene who he could bump and that he'd get away with it.
"But McGill vowed revenge went after everyone involved in ripping him off."
First, McGilll went after the Edinburgh middleman who introduced him to the small time player Heeps had sent over.
It was previously reported how McGill learned that the middleman had fled to Thailand and had his gang abduct him off the street before he was brutally slashed across the face.
The small-time player vanished and is believed to be currently hiding out in Dubai, but McGill's gang have targeted his family in recent weeks.
The source explained how going after the people involved in the drug deal was not enough for McGill and he decided anyone with a connection to Richardson would be attacked.
He added: "McGill puts the blame of all of this directly at the feet of Richardson.
"Heeps had obviously told Richardson he was going to do this because none of their crew do anything without the boss giving his approval, but they seriously underestimated Ross McGill.
"He had no real enemies in Scotland at that point and nobody really knew about his capabilities.
"But now he has unleashed the biggest gang war Scotland has ever seen."

McGill launched the feud on the streets of Scotland by ordering his Tamo Junto gang (TMJ) to firebomb and shoot bullets at businesses and homes in Edinburgh and East Lothian linked to Richardson throughout March.
In April, the war spread to Glasgow as McGill targeted the notorious Daniel crime clan over their long term association with Richardson.
Head of the family Steven 'Bonzo' Daniel and his uncle Norman had their homes torched in Bishopbriggs.

Towards the end of May, the feud escalated when two men were attacked with machetes in a garage in East Kilbride owned by Robert Daniel.
Just days later top Richardson associate David McMillan was attacked with a blade outside his home in Edinburgh by four thugs.
A truce was reported to have been agreed on May 30, but the following day Ross Monaghan and Eddie Lyons were shot dead outside a bar in Fuengirola on the Costa del Sol.
Last month Spanish cops blamed an 'internal member' of the Daniel clan for the double murder.
In recent weeks, chilling footage released by TMJ promised the war against Richardson will 'continue for many years to come.'

A woman's boyfriend was brutally tortured to death in his own home by her ex-partner, a court has heard. Thomas Campbell's face was 'disfigured' during a ferocious and repeated attack carried out by girlfriend Demi-Lee Driver's "obsessed' ex. The horrific crime was carried out by John Belfield, along with two others including Thomas Campbell's ex wife, who, fuelled by jealousy and rage, wanted to send a murderous message to Demi. Hours after Demi tried to text and phone Thomas, the true horror of what had happened on Riverside in Mossley near Manchester on July 2, 2022 emerged. The couple's new build home was taped off by police for two weeks after the incident, as cops combed the scene for clues and the 31-year-old was brought down by an intricate probe which, used his phone data to track his movements, Manchester Evening News reports. Belfield sent a series of vile messages to her in the week leading up to the killing, detailing exactly what he thought of her, the court heard. As they continued to row, Belfield told her: 'You will never have a boyfriend you will have to move country give it a week and you will see why and what happens when you take the pi**'. In the lead-up to that the murder on July 2, a tracking device had been placed on Thomas Campbell's car, with the help of Thomas's former wife Coleen Campbell who used their children to confirm his whereabouts. Belfield goaded Thomas about how close he was getting to his ex-wife. "I'm going to sh** her for the point of it as well as saying you like her you soft boy,' Belfield told him in a message, days before murdering him. Thomas was then ambushed at his front door by three men, one of which was Belfield, and bundled into his home. Inside that house, he was stabbed, strangled, and had boiling water poured on his genitals. Blood coated the walls after the horrific attack. Coleen Campbell was found guilty of manslaughter following a trial in 2023, for her role in the horrendous plot. Reece Steven, who Belfield recruited into the crime, and was one of the three attackers to kill Thomas Campbell, was found guilty of murder. Stephen Cleworth, who Belfield also recruited and planted the tracking device on Campbell's car, was convicted of manslaughter. The trio were all also convicted of conspiring to rob Thomas Campbell. The third attacker who formed part of the group who attacked Campbell remains unknown and is wanted by police. Coleen Campbell, Steven and Cleworth were all jailed in 2023. But Belfield evaded police and fled the country two days after the murder. He was arrested in Suriname in March 2023 and eventually flown back to Manchester a year later. After a month long trial in July 2025, Belfield was found guilty of murder and conspiracy to rob. Jurors were unanimous on both counts. He faces a huge minimum term and will be sentenced next month.

Second man in court over Glasgow 'murder bid' after alleged hit and run
Kyle McMenamin appeared at Glasgow Sheriff Court this afternoon. A second man has appeared in court over an alleged attempted murder in Glasgow. Police responded to a report of a disturbance in Ashgill Road, in the north of the city, on Monday, June 23. The incident involving three vehicles and a pedestrian unfolded in the street which runs through the city's Milton and Springburn areas, at around 6.55pm last week. The pedestrian, a 22-year-old man, was struck by a car and taken to Glasgow Royal Infirmary for treatment. His condition remains unknown. Kyle McMenamin appeared at Glasgow Sheriff Court on Thursday afternoon. The 26-year-old, of Glasgow, was charged with assault to danger of life and attempted murder. He made no plea, the case was committed for further examination and he was released on bail. He is expected to appear again within the next eight days. Police said they believed it was a "targeted incident" and enquiries are continuing. They added they do not believe there is any wider threat to the public but officers would remain in the area at the time, as they urged anyone with information regarding the incident to come forward. "The 22-year-old male pedestrian was struck by a car and taken to Glasgow Royal Infirmary for treatment. "From investigations so far, this is believed to be a targeted incident and there is no wider threat to the public. "Extensive enquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances and a police presence will remain in the area. Anyone with any concerns, or information, can approach these officers."
