Woman screams 'I'm going to die' as she dangles above 100ft drop on ferris wheel
Things took a traumatic turn at a carnival in Mandirituba, southern Brazil, when a confused woman 'thought the ride had finished' and attempted to leave the carriage in mid-air This is the nailbiting moment a terrified woman clings on for dear life screaming for help as she dangles from a ferris wheel facing a 100ft drop. Chilling video footage from a carnival in Mandirituba, southern Brazil, shows her in grave dangers after her legs and most of her body slipped through the safety gate. Gripping onto the carriage's bars, she knows one wrong move could see her plunge to her death. Phone footage of the drama recorded by horrified onlookers shows the big wheel as it inches around an entire rotation before carrying the woman to the ground. As her arms begin to tire having held firm, she can be heard calling: "Help, I'm going to die! I'm going to fall!" It later emerged that the woman, who has not been named, had opened the cabin's safety barrier and tried to get out believing the ride had ended. But just as she stepped forward, the ride lurched forward again leaving her clinging to the railings to stop herself falling, NewsX report. In a statement, Mandirituba City Hall said "The technical team immediately identified the situation and operated the equipment so that the cabin slowly lowered to the ground, allowing the passenger to be safely removed." Despite the terrifying experience, the woman declined medical attention and walked away unhurt but visibly shaken. It is not the only shocking fairground incident this summer. The waltzers ride at the Galactic Carnival Festival in Wester Hailes, Edinburgh, left children 'shaken up' after it suddenly appeared to malfunction as they went 'flying' with thrill-seekers inside. Dad Kevin McNulty said after horror in late May that he was in the car on the ride behind his three children aged 13, 12 and 7 when it it suddenly "came completely off" and went "flying" into the seat he was in. It was like "something you see in the movies', Kevin told Edinburgh Live. He said his children were shaken but 'not too bad' considering what happened. Kevin said: "Last night we were at these shows at Westerhailes Plaza, my three kids were on the Waltzers with myself and Brooke in car behind. Then the unthinkable happened. Going FULL PELT (not slowing down) their car came completely off and then went flying into our car. 'It then smashed about the place crashing into the side off the track, thankfully there was a heavy large speaker that they collided with or they would have been through the whole thing and then the ending would have been a completely different story, a thought I can't stop thinking about. "The shows continued to go (not the Waltzers) but place should have been shut down for a full inspection. It was like something you see in the movies and my kids are very very lucky that they managed to get out of this still walking."

West Lothian couple had to 'hang out window and scream' as fire ripped through building
Courtney Ramage, 21, and her partner Yazmin have been left 'traumatised' after the blaze unexpectedly began in the middle of the night. A West Lothian woman has told of the horrifying moment her and her partner were trapped inside their flat after a fire broke out in the hallway of their building. Courtney Ramage, 21, and her partner Yazmin have been left 'traumatised' after the blaze unexpectedly began in the middle of the night. The terrifying ordeal took place in the early hours of July 8 when the landing outside Courtney's flat on Church Place in Fauldhouse burst into flames. Courtney was outside for a smoke around 12am while Yazmin was sleeping inside their flat. When Courtney re-entered the building, she encountered a fire inside the stairwell. She told Edinburgh Live: 'To this day, I still cant sleep properly. This is the first time it's ever happened.' Courtney ran back into her flat to awake Yazmin and grab her phone to call 999. However, the couple discovered the blaze was too large and hot for them to escape through the stairwell. Courtney added: 'I thought I was going to die. I called 999. They told us to go into living room and close the door. They told us to hang out the window to get fresh air and to put towels in front of door to prevent smoke getting in. 'We were screaming. We felt like we were going to die.' A spokesperson from Places for People, the housing association for Courtney's building, said they understood 'how worrying a fire in the building must have been for customers' and they 'checked on everyone following the incident to see if they were safe'. Courtney says the landing retained smoke and fire damage following the blaze, and her asthma has been more severe in the days following the fire. She added: 'I'm already asthmatic and having to walk through the soot and stuff has affected my lungs, causing me to have asthma attacks.' Places for People said: 'We carried out an immediate inspection after the fire last week. There are some works required now to repair fire damage in the hallway and doorways to some of the flats which are scheduled in and will be completed in the next few weeks.' A Places for People Scotland spokesperson said: 'We understand how worrying a fire in the building must have been for Customers and we checked on everyone following the incident to see if they were safe. 'We carried out an immediate inspection after the fire last week. This involved us speaking to Customers about any damage in their flats and we also had all common areas, including the hallways, cleared and cleaned to prevent soot contamination. 'There are some works required now to repair fire damage in the hallway and doorways to some of the flats which are scheduled in and will be completed in the next few weeks. This will also include any cleaning or works required in individual flats, although one Customer is refusing entry to do this. 'We can assure customers that we are working as quickly as possible to arrange for all works to be completed and we have been keeping them updated regularly. 'Our number one concern is the welfare of Customers, and we urge everyone to adhere to the fire safety guidance in place so any further incidents can be prevented.' A Scottish Fire and Rescue spokesperson said: 'We attended an incident at 37 D Church Place in Fauldhouse after receiving a call at 12.01am on July 8. We mobilized three appliances to a small fire on the landing of the property in a residential building. 'There were three casualties, all of which were treated by SAS at the scene and released. The last appliance left at 1.38am.' A spokesperson from the Scottish Ambulance Service said: 'We received a call on July 8 to attend an incident on Church Place. We dispatched one ambulance and our special operations team to the scene. No patients required transport to hospital.' A Police Scotland spokesperson said: 'Around 12.25am on Tuesday, 8 July, 2025, officers attended a report of a fire within a common area of a block of flats on Church Place, Fauldhouse. 'Enquiries were carried out and have concluded, no further police action will be taken. 'Anyone with any further information is asked to contact 101.'

Scotland's gang war 'halted as Mr Big running out of footsoldiers and lying low'
Ross McGill, who has been waging war on associates of Edinburgh kingpin Mark Richardson and the notorious Glasgow-based Daniel clan, is believed to be 'lying low'. A gang war which has resulted in a number of shootings and firebombings across the central belt has shuddered to a halt after the crime lord behind the attacks began to 'run out of footsoldiers', according to underworld sources. Ross McGill, who has been waging war on associates of Edinburgh kingpin Mark Richardson and the notorious Glasgow-based Daniel clan, is believed to be 'lying low'. A number of businesses, properties and cars linked to Richardson and the Daniel family have been torched during an barrage of terrifying attacks spreading across the east and west of the country since March. Those associated with Richardson have repeatedly been targeted, with vehicles torched and several homes allegedly shot at by masked gunmen. A group called Tamo Junto (TMJ) have continued to taunt their rivals by releasing videos of the attacks and threatening further violence as Dubai-based McGill seeks revenge for an underworld heist. It is claimed an associate of Richardson paid for a stash of drugs with fake notes after building a relationship with the crime lord. McGill, in retaliation, supposedly used his criminal contacts to wage war on those involved in the deal. Due to police cracking down on those involved in the gangland feud, however, it has been suggested McGill is now "lying low" after officers investigating the series of violent incidents made a total of 55 arrests. A source told Edinburgh Live McGill has been left with fewer footsoldiers to do his bidding as several weeks have passed since the last gang-related incident in the capital. They told our sister title: "Word is McGill is lying low and has taken a backseat. The Eddie Lyons Jnr and Ross Monaghan shootings in Spain was mental as well so things have calmed down a little after that. "From the beginning there have been more and more characters getting involved and competing to see who was the bravest basically. It has all just become so messy." It was reported earlier this month McGill was confronted by another gangster at a gym in Dubai over the heat he has brought. Stephen 'Jimmy' Jamieson is understood to have confronted McGill during the bust-up. The most recent arrest linked to the gang war, named Operation Portaledge by police, came on Friday, July 18, when a man was arrested and charged in connection with wilful fireraising and firearms offences. Jordan Steele, 38, appeared at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Monday, July 21, in connection with the alleged firebombing of the Belle Cheveux salon in Leith on March 6. Steele made no plea and was granted bail. A 26-year-old male was also arrested in connection with alleged damage at a property on Walter Scott Avenue in Edinburgh on Thursday, 12 June, and an alleged wilful fire-raising at a property on Jackson Way in Tranent on Friday, 13 June. In addition, another 26-year-old man was also charged in connection with two alleged vehicle fires in Port Seton on Sunday, May 18 - he will be reported to the Procurator Fiscal.
