Investigators say unsafe speed a factor in deadly West Texas crash

Yahoo3 days ago
Investigators believe speed was a factor in a single-vehicle crash that left one man dead Tuesday evening in Motley County.
Anthony Marquis Natividad, 20 of Pecos, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash that was reported about 5:50 p.m. on FM 94 about two miles northeast of Northfield, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.
Investigators believe Natividad was driving a 2024 International HV-507 south on FM 94 when the vehicle entered a left curve in the roadway at an unsafe speed and lost control.
The vehicle went into a side skip and rolled before coming to a rest. Natividad was not wearing a seatbelt. The speed limit on the road was 75 mph, but it was not immediately clear how fast investigators believe the vehicle was traveling.
Other factors contributing to the crash were not immediately clear as the investigation is ongoing.

Brother of former NFL player and Army Ranger Pat Tillman reportedly drove car into San Jose post office, officials say

A man accused of deliberately driving a vehicle into a Northern California post office is reportedly the brother of former NFL player and US Army ranger Pat Tillman, the US Postal Inspection Service said. The investigation began when police and firefighters in San Jose responded to reports of a burning vehicle in the box lobby area of the Almaden Valley Station Post Office about 3 a.m. Sunday, the USPIS said in a statement emailed to CNN. The fire was extinguished and police took a man into custody, the statement said. 'The person in police custody is named Richard Tillman, who is reported to be the brother of the late NFL player and US Army soldier Patrick Tillman,' the service said. The suspect told officers at the scene he is Pat Tillman's brother and said he live-streamed the crash on a social media platform, KNTV in San Francisco reported, citing a source with knowledge of the investigation. 'Postal inspectors are investigating the incident as a potentially intentional act,' USPIS said. Richard Tillman is being held without bond and is due to appear in court Wednesday, according to Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office booking information. Pat Tillman, who led his high school football team in San Jose to a championship before playing at Arizona State University and advancing to the NFL, was killed while serving as a US Ranger in Afghanistan in 2004. The former Arizona Cardinals player – who turned down a multimillion-dollar contract with the team to enlist with the US Army following the September 11 attacks – was shot in the head three times by US soldiers who mistook him for the enemy. In a post on X Sunday, the San Jose Fire Department said about 50 personnel attended the scene of the post office fire, with no injuries reported. Photos from the fire department show firefighters dousing the charred entrance to the building. Solve the daily Crossword

Guatemala denies that Chilean green-card holder was deported from the United States

GUATEMALA CITY (AP) — The Guatemalan government on Sunday denied that U.S. authorities deported a Chilean man to the Central American country. The Morning Call of Allentown, Pennsylvania, reported Luis Leon, 82, a legal permanent resident of the United States who won asylum in 1987, ended up in Guatemala after being handcuffed in a Philadelphia immigration office, where he went to replace his lost green card. The news report relied on family accounts. The Morning Call reported Sunday that Leon was recovering from pneumonia in Guatemala and didn't plan to return to the United States, according to his granddaughter. U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement was looking into the circumstances, according to The Morning Call. ICE did not respond to questions from The Associated Press on Sunday. The Guatemalan Migration Institute said in a statement that it coordinates with ICE on all deportations from the United States and that no one matched Leon's name, age or citizenship. Guatemala agreed in February to receive people deported from the United States who are from other Central American countries. Its agreement does not extend to Chileans. The Trump administration has embraced deporting people to countries other than their own, including El Salvador, South Sudan and, last week, the African kingdom of Eswatini.
