
South Korea and Egypt Celebrate 30 Years of Diplomatic Relations with Cultural Symposium and colorful Performances

In celebration of the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations between South Korea and Egypt, a landmark cultural and arts exchange symposium to be held on April 30, 2025, at the Oriental Hall of the American University in Cairo (AUC). Under the slogan '5,000 Years of Civilizational Dialogue,' the event will take place from 2:00 PM to 5:30 PM and aims to foster deeper mutual understanding and long-term cultural cooperation between the two historic civilizations.
The event will be hosted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism, in collaboration with the Korea Foundation for International Cultural Exchange (KOFICE) and the Federation of Artistic and Cultural Organizations of Korea and jointly organized with the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Egypt.
The event aims to deepen cultural and artistic exchanges between the two countries and establish a sustainable foundation for cooperation among artists from both countries. It will consist of three parts:
1. Symposium: 'Dialogue of Five Thousand Years of Civilization'
2. 'Cairo Arts Declaration'
3. Celebration Performance: 'Colorful Korea'
The symposium will cover a wide range of topics, including the social role of the arts, art education in the digital age, the future of cities and art, and current cultural cooperation between Korea and Egypt. Presenters emphasized the power art in enhancing the empathy and solidarity and the possibilities for cross-border creative collaboration.
Reflecting the solidarity between Korean and Egyptian artists, the second part of the symposium will witness the official launch of the Asia-Africa Artists' Alliance (A3A), a sustainable platform for collaboration among artists from Asia and Africa that mainly seeks to promote cultural exchange and mutual understanding.
The celebrations will continue the same evening with a special event titled 'Colorful Korea in Cairo,' to be held at Ewart Memorial Hall, AUC, from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM.
Designed to foster understanding of K-culture while expanding the cultural exchanges between the two countries, the performance will feature a vibrant program that showcased the essence of both traditional Korean arts and contemporary popular culture.
These events mark a significant milestone in the South Korea–Egypt partnership, underscoring their shared commitment to cultural diplomacy and people-to-people exchange.
Kim Yonghyon, Ambassador of the South Korea to Egypt said that 'over 30 years, our nations have transformed cooperation in to tangible progress, and will continue their commitment to a future oriented alliance, levering innovation, and shared values.
'Egypt's vision for sustainable development aligns with Korea's technological expertise will be a synergy that will shape the next decade, ambassador Kim added.
'30th anniversary celebrations are a testament to three decades of friendship and a launching platform for future cooperation in all domains,' said Oh Sungho, Director of the Korean Cultural Center in Egypt.
'We aim to create a sustainable model for two-way cultural exchange that will fuel our co-prosperity,' he added.

Mohamed Henedy and Mona Zaki's 'Al Gawahergy' Gets New Release Date
Yara Sameh Egyptian stars Mohamed Henedy and Mona Zaki's upcoming film 'Al Gawahergy' has been set for a theatrical release on July 30 following a series of delays. The film's journey to the big screen had been a bumpy ride that dates back to 2022. It was initially set to hit the cinemas during the Eid al-Fitr movie marathon in 2022 but got postponed indefinitely before landing an August 2024 release window, only to be delayed to the Eid al-Adha movie marathon in 2025 and then to July 30. 'Al Gawahergy' also boasts a cast that includes Lebleba, Ahmed El Saadany, Tara Emad, Bassem Samra, and more. Written by Islam Khairy and directed by Omar Taher, 'Al Gawahergy' depicts the crises of marriage in a comedic setting. The film witnesses the first collaboration between Henedy and Zaki after 23 years. They last starred together in the 1998 film 'Saidi at the American University'. Henedy and Zaki are currently busy working on their latest films, respectively. The veteran comedian is set to star in the action-comedy film "Sterlini' (The Sterling). The project reunites Henedy with "Marei El Brimo" scriptwriter Ihab Blibl. Directed by Hussein El Menbawy, the pic features Henedy presenting action to his scenes for the first time. "El Sterling', a significant portion of the film shot in Saudi Arabia. Meanwhile, Zaki is starring in the Umm Kulthum biopic "El Set" and the comedy film "Rizk Al Hibl". Marwan Hamed is directing the biopic from a script by Ahmed Mourad. The film comes as part of the "Big Time" Investment Fund that aims to raise the quality of Arabic content and filmmaking. The fund is sponsored by the General Entertainment Authority (GEA) and co-sponsored by the Ministry of Culture. Ain Shams Uni. Hosts Quiz on Korea 2025 Celebrating 30 Years of Korea-Egypt Relations
Nada Mustafa The Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Egypt hosted the 2025 Quiz on Korea event at Ain Shams University on 29th June, 2025. In celebration of the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations between South Korea and Egypt, and the 20th anniversary of the Korean Language and Literature Department at Ain Shams University, the Quiz on Korea Egypt was successfully held in collaboration with Faculty of Al-Alsun, Ain Shams University. Quiz on Korea is a global quiz competition co-hosted by Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Korea and KBS (Korean Broadcasting System), aimed at raising global interest in Korea. Participants answer questions covering a wide range of topics including Korean history, culture, language, and traditions. Contestants registered in advance through an online application process, and the winner of the Egypt preliminary will be invited to Korea as an Egyptian representative to compete in the global final round in September. The grand finale will be broadcasted as a KBS special program on October 5th. In his welcoming remarks, H.E. Kim Yonghyon, Ambassador of Korea to Egypt, expressed delight in hosting the Quiz on Korea event, highlighting the strong friendship and partnership between Korea and Egypt. He emphasized that cultural and people-to-people exchanges serve as vital bridges of understanding between two peoples, and expressed his gratitude to all participants and attendees for their enthusiasm and contributions to deepening bilateral cultural exchange. The Ambassador also announced a series of cultural events planned throughout the year in celebration of the 30th anniversary of diplomatic ties. These include the Touring K-Arts Fusion Gugak Concert at the American University in Cairo on August 26th, as well as a classical music concert, a Samulnori (Korean traditional percussion music) concert, and a Taekwondo demonstration by the Kukkiwon (World Taekwondo Headquarters) team. Prof. Dr. Salwa Rashad, Dean of the Faculty of Al-Alsun, Ain Shams University stated in her opening remarks that our two nations share strong ties, reflected in the Korean department where students act as cultural ambassadors. The Quiz on Korea is not only a test of knowledge, but also a celebration of our shared passion for Korean culture and cross-cultural connection. The Quiz on Korea event featured celebratory performances by Ain Shams University's student Samulnori club and choir, adding a festive atmosphere to the occasion. In addition to the main quiz competition, a special Korea-Egypt quiz show was held for the audience, providing an opportunity to deepen their understanding of Korea and the Korean Embassy's various activities. The Egypt preliminary consisted of three rounds: OX (true / false), multiple choice, and short answer questions. Ultimately, Ms. Rawan Hamed, a third-year student majoring in Korean Language and Literature at Ain Shams University, emerged as the champion and will represent Egypt in the final round in Korea. The event drew over 100 guests, including participants and audience. Spectators expressed their admiration for the participants' passion and knowledge of Korea, noting that the event inspired them to learn more about Korean culture and history. Nancy Ajram to Perform Live in Egypt on July 26
Yara Sameh Lebanese superstar Nancy Ajram is reuniting with her fans in Egypt on Saturday, July 26, as part of her Summer gigs in the MENA region and worldwide. She is set to present several of her popular and latest songs. On the other hand, Ajram is gearing up to release her upcoming album, which was recently delayed due to the recent tension in the Middle East. Ajram previously noted that she prefers to release the album in a positive and healthy atmosphere to receive the attention it deserves. "I don't release an album every year, but rather every four or five years, which is why I want it to be released at a time where it receives the recognition that it deserves," she explained. Ajram continued: "I've postponed it for a few days or a few weeks, depending on the circumstances and how stable the situation will be,". In September 2024, Ajram revealed on Instagram that she was currently in the studio working on a new album. "The album journey is officially underway," she wrote. In the new album, she collaborates with a large number of poets and composers, including Tamer Hussein, and Aziz El-Shafei.
