Cheltenham Festival-winning trainer David Cottin has been hit with an immediate three-month ban that he has been blocked from appealing

Cottin, who was previously banned for 12 months (six suspended on condition of good behaviour) after horses in his yard failed drugs tests, cannot have another runner until late September.
The French handler saddled the JP McManus-owned Easysland to Cross Country Chase success at the 2020 Festival.
He was previously 'one of the most charismatic jockeys' before becoming a trainer and is son of famed French handler Philippe Cottin.
The release confirming Cottin's ban did not state explicitly how he had breached the terms of his licence.
French racing journalist Adrien Cugnasse told the Nick Luck Daily podcast earlier this year more on the 'sad story'.
The reporter claimed Cottin was trying to buy Champagne at the bar at Auteuil but 'went a bit crazy' when he was denied it without his card.
He was then allegedly given a two-month ban from the racecourse after an argument with a bar worker.
Cugnasse then went onto divulge unconfirmed reports of a 'street fight' involving Cottin that 'ended up with a young member of the industry being injured'.

US couple risk France trial over stolen shipwreck gold
An 80-year-old US novelist and her husband are among several people facing a possible trial in France over the illegal sale of gold bars plundered from an 18th-century shipwreck, after French prosecutors requested the case go to court. Eleonor "Gay" Courter and her 82-year-old husband Philip have been accused of helping to sell the bullion online for a French diver who stole it decades ago, but have denied knowledge of any wrongdoing. Le Prince de Conty, a French ship trading with Asia, sank off the coast of Brittany during a stormy night in the winter of 1746. Its wreck was discovered more than two centuries later, in 1974, lying in 10-15m of water near the island of Belle-Ile-en-Mer. The wreck was looted in 1975 after a gold ingot was discovered during a site survey. Archaeologists in the 1980s discovered fine 18th-century Chinese porcelain, the remains of tea crates, and three Chinese gold bars in and around the shipwreck. But a violent storm in 1985 dispersed the ship's remains, ending official excavations. Years later in 2018, the head of France's underwater archaeology department Michel L'Hour spotted a suspicious sale of five gold ingots on a US auction house website. He told US authorities he believed they hailed from the Prince de Conty, and they seized the treasure, returning it to France in 2022. Investigators identified the seller as a certain Eleonor "Gay" Courter, an author and film producer living in Florida. 40-odd dives for gold Ms Courter said she had been given the precious metal by a couple of French friends, Annette May Pesty, today 78, and her now deceased partner Gerard. Ms Pesty had told the "Antiques Roadshow" television series in 1999 that she discovered the gold while diving off the west African island of Cape Verde. But investigators found this to be unlikely and instead focused on her brother-in-law, now 77-year-old underwater photographer Yves Gladu. A 1983 trial had found five people guilty of embezzlement and receiving stolen goods over the plundering of the Prince de Conty. Mr Gladu was not among them. Held in custody in 2022, he confessed to having retrieved 16 gold bars from the ship during around 40 dives on the site between 1976 and 1999. He said he had sold them all in 2006 to a retired member of the military living in Switzerland. But he denied ever having given any to his American friends the Courters. He had known the author and her husband since the 1980s, and they had joined him on holiday on his catamaran in Greece in 2011, in the Caribbean in 2014 and in French Polynesia in 2015, investigators found. The Courter couple were detained in the UK in 2022, then put under house arrest. French investigators concluded that they had been in possession of at least 23 gold bars in total. They found they had sold 18 ingots for more than $192,000, including some via online sale platform eBay. But the Courters claimed the arrangement had always been for the money to go to Mr Gladu. 'Profoundly nice people' A prosecutor in the western French city of Brest has requested that the Courters, Mr Gladu and Annette May Pesty be tried, according to legal documents. An investigating magistrate still has to decide whether or not to order a trial, but prosecutors said a trial was likely in the autumn of 2026. The US couple's lawyer, Gregory Levy, said they had had no idea what they were getting into. "The Courters accepted because they are profoundly nice people. They didn't see the harm as in the United States, regulations for gold are completely different from those in France," he said, adding the couple had not profited from the sales. Ms Courter has written several fiction and non-fiction books, some nautical-themed, according to her website. One is a thriller set on a cruise ship, while another is her real-life account of being trapped on an ocean liner off the Japanese coast during a 2020 Covid quarantine.

Reynolds and Bohs tried everything to avoid turning Mousset loose
Alan Reynolds insists Bohemians did everything in their power to avoid the League of Ireland becoming the latest brief stopover for ex-Premier League striker Lys Mousset. The capture of a 29-year-old who'd scored against Manchester United and Arsenal seemed a coup in February when his deft flick on his debut helped create the winner against deadly rivals Shamrock Rovers. All 33,208 fans at Lansdowne Road could appreciate the striker's ability but over the five months since Reynolds has witnessed the entire gamut that sticks journeyman status to the French native's reputation. Bit-part roles would follow, amounting to game-time of 321 minutes over nine appearances. His winner off the bench in May against Sligo Rovers proved to be his only goal and his last appearance. Injuries which hampered his career in England and Germany continued in Ireland, but it wasn't just his body that let him down during his latest pitstop. 'It's probably one that everyone could see happening - let's be honest,' confessed Bohs boss Reynolds. 'He's struggled to settle and we've struggled to get him fit and on the pitch. 'Look, we tried everything with him. All the staff did. It's just he picked up niggles and things like that which slowed it down all the time. 'It just hasn't worked. And he had a conversation with us to say: 'Look, I think it's the right time for us to go'. 'One thing for sure, if he wants to play football, he needs to get fit.' Mousset's anticipated departure wasn't the only reason Bohs pounced for Douglas James-Taylor. He was a revelation on loan at Drogheda United from parent club Walsall but rejected offers from both Trivela-owned clubs to instead join the Gypsies. The new recruit will be at St Patrick's Athletic on Friday night donning the new blue jersey launched in association with Oasis. Bohs enlisted 'Modfather' Paul Weller for the promotional ad, their latest innovative initiative to bolster both profile and merchandise revenue. All of which facilitates Reynolds strengthening his squad in the window opened on Tuesday. They sit joint-second with Derry City in the table, 11 points off leaders Shamrock Rovers but with two games in hand. 'I think it's great for the club and the league,' says the Waterford man, admitting he hasn't yet acquired a ticket to see Oasis in Dublin next month. 'Our club has to try those initiatives because there's no sugar daddy there to keep funding. The more media attention the league gets, the better. 'It does help me. How much it will help remains to be seen when I go and knock on the door looking for more players.' His pot could swell too if Bohs receive an acceptable offer for James Clarke. The attacker has been linked with a move to join the Irish legion at Grimsby Town but no bid has been received. With the player unlikely to sign a contract extension, Bohs would have to cash in during this window to avoid losing him for free in January. 'There's interest in James and I'd love to keep him but he probably has ambitions of playing across the water,' explained Reynolds. 'There's no buyout clause and he'll be a Bohs player unless something changes.'
