Dubai Police arrest and extradite fugitives wanted for trafficking in Belgium
The three suspects — Mathias Akyazili, Giorgi Faes and Othman El Ballouti — were listed in the most-wanted category by the International Criminal Police Organisation (Interpol) and the European Union Agency for Law Enforcement Cooperation (Europol).
Dubai Media Office said on Sunday that the three men were held based on Interpol red notices issued against them, in an operation carried out by police in Dubai in close co-ordination with international law enforcement agencies.
The trio have been handed over to authorities in their native Belgium, where they are accused of serious cross-border crimes, including operating a gang, trafficking narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances, committing robbery and engaging in human trafficking.
Their extradition followed a Dubai Police investigation, conducted in co-ordination with the Ministry of Interior and led by the General Department of Criminal Investigation, in response to an international arrest warrant submitted by Belgian authorities to the International Co-operation Department at the UAE Ministry of Justice.
"All required legal and judicial formalities were duly complied with before proceeding with the extradition request," Dubai Media Office said.

Dubai: Crackdown on delivery riders; 19 bikes impounded after violating rules
A total of 19 motorcycles were recently impounded after delivery service regulations were violated by riders in Dubai, the Roads and Transport Authority announced on Tuesday. The violations include failure to wear protective gear, reckless driving, and operating a motorcycle without the mandatory professional training certificate issued by the RTA, noted Ahmed Mahboob, CEO of Licensing Agency at RTA. It was announced back in December 2022 that aside from having a driving licence, delivery riders must also acquire a qualification certificate from the RTA to prove that they have completed practical and theoretical training on defensive driving, safety requirements, and the periodic maintenance of bikes, among others. Mahboob said the RTA, in collaboration with Dubai Police, Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation, Dubai Municipality, and the Dubai Health Authority, recently conducted 1,059 inspections targeting delivery motorcycles operating across the emirate, particularly in several high-density areas, including Downtown Dubai, Jumeirah, and Motor City. Mahboob urged delivery riders to fully adhere to all road safety regulations. '(We) will continue to carry out joint inspection and awareness campaigns, in line with achieving global leadership in smooth and sustainable mobility. These efforts will be supported by the issuance of circulars and regulatory guidelines, in collaboration with strategic partners, to create a safe and sustainable operational environment that serves the interests of the entire community.'

UAE: Driver ordered to pay Dh51,450 after running red light, not paying traffic fines
A court in Abu Dhabi ordered a man to pay Dh51,450 to his former employer, after he ran a red light and failed to repay the traffic fines the company covered on his behalf. According to Abu Dhabi Labour Court documents, the company filed a lawsuit against the driver, demanding he repay the amount it had to cover due to his violation. The company also requested a 5% late payment fee from the date of the claim until full settlement, along with legal costs and lawyer fees. As reported by Al Khaleej local newspaper, the company argued that the driver, who was employed as a taxi driver with a total salary of Dh800, committed a traffic violation by running a red light. While the driver was fined Dh3,000, the company ended up paying Dh50,000 in penalties, plus Dh1,450 in transport-related fees. Despite multiple attempts, the former employee did not reimburse the company. The court reviewed the driver's salary report, work contract, and other documents in the case file. It confirmed that the driver was employed by the company under a fixed-term contract as a taxi driver. The company provided authorities with a proof that it paid Dh51,450. The court referred to Article 1 of the Evidence Law, which says that the plaintiff must prove their right, and the defendant has the right to refute it, with the burden of proof resting on the plaintiff. Since the company showed clear proof of payment, the court ruled in its favour and ordered the driver to pay back the full amount.

Seven Indian travellers using fake visas arrested after deportation from Dubai: Media reports
Seven Indian travellers using fake visas were caught by authorities at Dubai International Airport, and deported to Mumbai, according to Indian media reports. Immigration officials at Mumbai Airport found the flyers travelled to Dubai on tourist visas, and then attempted to transit using fraudulent Luxembourg Employment Schengen Visas, which had missing security features. Hailing from Gujarat, the suspects allegedly planned to arrive in Europe as tourists and subsequently settle in Luxembourg and other nations. Sahar Police arrested the individuals after the inspection at Mumbai, Indian media said. Behind the scheme is an agent, also from Gujarat, who created the tourist visas and fake Schengen visas. The agent reportedly assured the seven detainees that these visas would allow them to live in Schengen countries and enable them to find employment easily, Indian media reports said.
