COAS General Dwivedi pays tribute to Agniveer Murli Naik killed in Operation Sindoor
Murali Naik was gravely injured during heavy shelling from the Pakistani side along the Line of Control (LoC) on May 8. Despite immediate medical treatment, he succumbed to his injuries on May 9.
In a post on X, the Additional Directorate General of Public Information (ADG-PI)-Indian Army said, 'General Upendra Dwivedi, COAS, and All Ranks of the #IndianArmy pay homage to the unwavering courage of #Braveheart Agniveer Murlinaik who made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty during OPERATION SINDOOR.'
'His indomitable valour will forever be etched in our hearts. The Indian Army stands resolutely with his family in this hour of grief,' the post stated.
Earlier, the White Knight Corps, in a post on X, paid tribute to AgniVeer Naik, who was killed during Operation Sindoor.
The Corps stated, 'GOC and all ranks of White Knight Corps salute AgniVeer Mood Muralinaik, who made the supreme sacrifice during Operation Sindoor. His courage and dedication to duty remain etched in our memory. We continue to stand with the bereaved family.'
Operation Sindoor was India's military response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, which claimed the lives of 26 people, including a Nepali national. It marked a decisive moment in India's defence strategy, as the Indian Army launched a series of successful strikes against Pakistan's forward posts and terrorist camps across the Line of Control (LoC).
Earlier, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu also honoured the soldier's heroism and expressed his condolences on the young jawan's death in Ananthapuram district.
According to an official release from the TDP, CM Naidu spoke with Murali's parents, Jyotibai and Ram Naik, and offered the state government's support.CM Naidu highlighted Murali Naik's invaluable service to the army over the past two years and praised his dedication to his country, calling on the public to unite in patriotism and honour the fallen soldier's sacrifice. The first week of disruption in Parliament's Monsoon session is set to give way to a fiery debate on the Pahalgam attack and Operation Sindoor from Monday as the ruling NDA and the Opposition prepare to lock horns over the two issues steeped in national security and foreign policy imperatives. The BJP-led NDA and Opposition parties are expected to field their top guns during the discussion in the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha. Sources said Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar will be speaking on the issues amid indications that Prime Minister Narendra Modi may make an intervention to convey his government's 'robust' stand against terrorism. Leaders of Opposition in Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge, may lead the charge against the government along with Samajwadi Party's Akhilesh Yadav, besides a host of other members. The two sides have consented to a marathon 16-hour debate in each House, which invariably stretches longer in practice. Besides its battery of ministers and leaders like Anurag Thakur, Sudhanshu Trivedi and Nishikant Dubey, the ruling NDA is expected to field its members from the seven multi-party delegations that had travelled to over 30 world capitals to present India's case after Operation Sindoor. They include Shrikant Shinde of the Shiv Sena, Sanjay Jha of the JD(U) and Harish Balayogi of the TDP, among others. A big question mark is on whether Shashi Tharoor, who had led the delegation to the US among other countries, will be picked as a speaker by the Congress, as the seasoned Lok Sabha member's enthusiastic endorsement of the government's action following the terror attack has soured his ties with his party. The Supreme Court is scheduled to hear on Monday a batch of pleas challenging the Election Commission's decision to undertake a special intensive revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in poll-bound Bihar. A Bench of Justices Surya Kant and Joymalya Bagchi is likely to take up the matter in which the EC has justified its ongoing SIR of electoral rolls in Bihar, saying it adds to the purity of the election by 'weeding out ineligible persons' from the electoral rolls. The poll panel, while justifying its June 24 decision directing the SIR, has said all major political parties were 'involved' in the exercise and deployed more than 1.5 lakh booth-level agents to reach out to eligible voters, but are opposing it in the apex court. 'The entitlement to vote flows from Article 326 read with Sections 16 and 19 of the RP Act 1950 and Section 62 of the RP Act 1951, which contains certain qualifications with respect to citizenship, age, and ordinary residency. An ineligible person has no right to vote, and thus, cannot claim a violation of Articles 19 and 21 in this regard,' it said. The Supreme Court is scheduled to hear on Monday Allahabad High Court judge Yashwant Varma's plea seeking invalidation of a report by an in-house inquiry panel which found him guilty of misconduct in the cash discovery row. A Bench of Justices Dipankar Datta and AG Masih is likely to hear the matter. Justice Varma has also sought quashing of the May 8 recommendation by then Chief Justice of India Sanjiv Khanna, urging Parliament to initiate impeachment proceedings against him. In his petition, Justice Varma submitted that the inquiry 'reversed the burden of proof', requiring him to investigate and disprove the charges levelled against him. Alleging that the panel's findings were based on a preconceived narrative, Justice Varma said the inquiry timelines were driven solely by the urge to conclude proceedings swiftly, even at the expense of 'procedural fairness'. The petition contended that the inquiry panel drew adverse findings without affording him a full and fair hearing. A meeting of the Telangana Cabinet will be held on Monday, where the expert panel report is expected to be a key agenda, official sources said. Telangana Backward Classes Welfare Minister Ponnam Prabhakar on Saturday said the state Cabinet would meet to discuss the Independent Expert Working Group's (IEWG) report on the caste survey and determine the next course of action. Operation Sindoor proved there is no safe haven for our enemies: PM Modi
Operation Sindoor showed the world the way India would respond if its sovereignty was attacked, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Sunday, adding the cross-border military offensive against terror infrastructure has created a new self-confidence across the country. After his visit to the UK and Maldives, Prime Minister Narendra Modi landed in Tamil Nadu where he took part in the valedictory celebrations of the Aadi Thiruvathirai festival(DPR PMO) Speaking at an event at the Gangaikonda Cholapuram temple in Ariyalur district of Tamil Nadu, held to mark the birth anniversary of iconic Chola dynasty emperor Rajendra Chola-I, Modi emphasised that India's spirituality can be instrumental for peace while its military prowess will ensure the country's enemies have no place. 'The world saw how India responds if someone attacks its security and sovereignty,' the PM asserted, referring to the military strikes against terror infrastructure in Pakistan in retaliation to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that claimed 26 lives. 'Operation Sindoor proved that for enemies of India, for terrorists, there is no safe haven. Operation Sindoor has created a new awakening, a new self-confidence across the country and has forced the world to acknowledge India's strength,' Modi, who was visiting Tamil Nadu on a two-day trip, added. Modi also released a commemorative coin honouring Rajendra Chola 1 at the event, which also commemorated 1,000 years of Rajendra Chola's legendary maritime expedition to South East Asia and the commencement of the construction of the Gangaikonda Cholapuram temple, a magnificent example of Chola architecture. The names of emperors Raja Raja Chola and his son Rajendra Chola-I are synonymous with India's identity and pride, Modi said and announced that grand statues would be built for them in Tamil Nadu. These statues will be 'modern pillars of our historic awakening,' he added. 'The Chola empire is like an ancient road map for developed India. The economic and military heights India reached during the Chola era continue to inspire us even today. Raja Raja Chola built a powerful navy, which Rajendra Chola further strengthened…It shows us that if we are to achieve a 'Viksit Bharat' (developed India), we must strengthen our Navy and defence forces,' Modi said. In the last 10 years, the PM said, his government has worked tirelessly to protect and preserve India's heritage. 'The Chola emperors had woven India into a thread of cultural unity. Today, our government is carrying forward the same vision of the Chola era. Through initiatives like the Kashi-Tamil Sangamam and the Saurashtra-Tamil Sangamam, we are strengthening these centuries-old bonds of unity,' he said. The PM also invoked the rich legacy of Chola kings and their patronage of Saivite spiritualism. 'Our Shaivite tradition has played a vital role in shaping India's cultural identity. The Chola emperors were key architects of this legacy. Even today, Tamil Nadu remains one of the most significant centres where this living tradition continues to thrive.' Noting that July 27 marks the death anniversary of former President APJ Abdul Kalam, Modi said in order to lead a developed India, the country needs millions of youths like Kalam and the Chola kings. The event began with rendition of spiritual hymns by celebrated musician and Rajya Sabha member Ilaiyaraja singing in praise of Lord Shiva in the presence of heads of Shaivite mutts. The event also coincided with the Aadi Thiruvathirai festival. 'When the world is struggling with problems like instability and violence, Shaivite principles show us a path of solutions,' Modi said. 'Today's India is taking forward the concept of One World, One Family, One Future.' Modi, who arrived in Tuticorin on July 26 night and inaugurated and laid foundation stones for projects worth about ₹4,900 crore in the state, which will go to assembly polls next year, also held a roadshow on Sunday from Trichy to the Gangaikonda Cholapuram temple. During the roadshow, the prime minister stood on the running board of his vehicle and waved at the people who lined up on both sides of the road. The route was dotted with flags of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), its ally AIADMK and other NDA partners. Governor RN Ravi, DMK leaders and state ministers Thangam Thennarasu and SS Sivasankar, VCK's chief and MP Thol Thirumavalan and several BJP leaders also accompanied Modi on the stage.
