RM103,000 Criminal Breach of Trust: Clerk claims trial

Kota Kinabalu: A 37-year-old accountant clerk claimed trial to three counts of committing criminal breach of trust involving a sum of RM103,351.36. Brandon Ng Jia Lie made the plea after the charges were read before three Sessions Court Judges, Hurman Hussain, Elsie Primus and Noor Hafizah Mohd Salim, Friday.
Advertisement On the first count, Ng is accused of breaching the trust given to him as an accountant clerk by depositing two cheques amounting to RM6,462.50 belonged to Syarikat Sime Darby Industrial Sdn Bhd, into his bank account for his own use. The alleged incident took place between Nov 16, 2021 and Dec 31, 2021 at the Standard Chartered Bank Malaysia Berhad, here. On the second count, he allegedly committed criminal breach of trust by depositing another eight cheques amounting to RM64,169.26 belonged to Syarikat Sime Darby Industrial Sdn Bhd, into his bank account for his own use, between Feb 29, 2022 and Dec 29, 2022 at the same place. On the third count, Ng is accused of committing the offence by depositing five cheques amounting to RM32,719.60 belonged to Syarikat Sime Darby Industrial Sdn Bhd, into his bank account for his own use at the same place between Feb 3, 2023 and July 27, 2023. The offence, under Section 408 of the Penal Code, carries a jail term of between one and 14 years, and whipping, and liable to fine, on conviction. The court set Aug 12, this year, and released on bail of RM5,000 in two local sureties for each charge. Ng was also ordered to report to the nearest police station every first and third Friday of the month and his passport, if any, to be impounded by the court until the disposal of his case. Earlier, the prosecution objected to bail Ng on the grounds that he has three charges against him but if the court were to grant bail, there were several conditions to be imposed on him. Ng, who was not represented, asked for bail to be given to him saying that it was his first court case and if he was denied bail, there's no one else to financially provide for his family since his wife is a full-time housewife. He also claimed that he has no authority to sign or approve any cheque. Ng requested for the amount of bail to be between RM2,000 and RM3,000, adding that he would apply for the legal service from the National Legal Aid Foundation. Another Suspected Criminal Killed In Shootout With Police In Sungai Petani
SUNGAI PETANI, July 5 (Bernama) -- Police have shot dead another man believed to be involved in a series of armed robberies, just a day after two other suspects were killed in a shootout in Jitra. The 34-year-old suspect was fatally shot during a similar shootout with police at 7.50 pm in Bandar Puteri Jaya, according to acting director of the Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Datuk Fadil Marsus. 'This was a special operation led by Bukit Aman CID in collaboration with several state contingents and all branches of the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM). 'Today, we encountered an individual believed to be part of a gang involved in a series of armed robberies across several states. Attempts were made to arrest him, but he resisted and a shootout ensued, leading to his death,' he told reporters at the scene. A pistol and several other items were recovered from the suspect, who had more than 30 prior criminal records. Fadil said police believe the suspect was also a key member of a criminal group, comprising over a dozen members, responsible for a string of armed robberies, gangsterism and drug trafficking dating back to 2022, which caused losses estimated at nearly RM6 million. 'Our investigations indicate this suspect was also involved in three recent armed robberies in Melaka, Negeri Sembilan, and Perak,' he added. Fadil emphasised that the police would continue to act aggressively to apprehend individuals involved in violent crimes, especially those involving firearms. The case is being investigated under Section 307 of the Penal Code.

Three China nationals held for using counterfeit RM100 notes at hotel

KUALA LUMPUR: Three female China nationals were arrested after they tried to pay for hotel rooms using counterfeit RM100 banknotes on Thursday. Dang Wangi district police chief ACP Sulizmie Affendy Sulaiman said the women, 18 to 47, used 87 fake RM100 banknotes to pay a hotel bill of RM8,700. Advertisement 'During the arrests, police seized 87 fake RM100 banknotes, along with one RM50 and RM20 note each, along with two Lous Vuitton bags, hotel room access cards and three iPhones,' he said in a statement today. He added that investigation papers have been opened under Section 498B of the Penal Code and the suspects have been remanded for six days till July 9. Key witness identified in Bersatu Armada exco death threat case
KUALA LUMPUR: Police have identified a key witness in the investigation into a death threat case involving a company director who is also Bersatu Youth (Armada) exco. Dang Wangi police chief ACP Sulizmie Affendy Sulaiman said investigations found that the victim did not know the suspect who allegedly threatened to kill him. He said two witnesses have been called so far, and their statements recorded to assist in the investigation. 'Police have also identified a key witness in this case, who will be called in to have a statement recorded. We believe this witness could provide crucial information in identifying those involved and shedding light on the motive behind the threats made against the complainant,' he said in a statement today. However, he said, so far, no arrests have been made against any individuals in connection with the case. He said police are actively working to identify the suspect and are investigating the case from all possible angles, while also prioritising the safety of the complainant. 'The case is being investigated under Section 507 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation by anonymous communication,' he added. 'The public with any relevant information is urged to contact investigating officer Insp Pang Wei Keong at 013-208 2391 or the head of the District Criminal Investigation Division DSP Rosdi M. Husin at 013-392 0694,' he said. Earlier, media reported that Armada exco Na'im Brundage claimed he had received death threats, including threats of being splashed with acid by unknown individuals.
