Gasly heading to Hollywood if Alpine don't improve

French Formula One driver Pierre Gasly responded to Brad Pitt praising his acting potential by joking he might have to head to Hollywood if Alpine stayed last in the championship.
Pitt, star of the movie F1 released this week, was asked at a recent New York premiere which drivers might have a future in Hollywood.
"I'm going to give Carlos Sainz, he's definite, I'm going to say Pierre Gasly. I think he's got a feel for it," he told ABC television.
"And of course Lewis (Hamilton) can do anything."
Gasly told reporters at the Austrian Grand Prix that Pitt's comments had delighted his mother.
"I must say it clearly made my mom pretty happy. She was very pleased to be the first in the family group chat to send it to all the family," he said.
"Let's see how the season goes, but hopefully we score a few more points. Otherwise you might see me in Hollywood."
Gasly, who has scored all of Alpine's 11 points with the team in some turmoil after the departure of principal Oliver Oakes and resignation of Renault boss Luca de Meo, said he had no acting experience.
"I think it's the French side of me. I can play a French lover or something like that," he said.

Quartararo takes pole for Dutch MotoGP

"I would not say I am the favourite, but I am one of the podium contenders for sure.' French rider Fabio Quartararo will start from pole for the fourth time this season after posting the fastest time in qualifying on Saturday for the Dutch MotoGP. The 26-year-old 2021 world champion, who will also start from pole for the sprint race later on Saturday, has yet to transform his excellent qualifying performances this season into victories. For the Yamaha rider it was a welcome return to form having failed to finish in three of the last four MotoGPs. The most crushing disappointment of all came when he was set for his first win since Germany in 2022 but suffered a technical problem in the British MotoGP last month. However, he was back to his optimistic self post-qualifying on Saturday. 'I would not say I am the favourite, but I am one of the podium contenders for sure,' he said. 'I feel good, the bike is in good shape.' He will be joined on the front row by Italy's two-time world champion Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati) and Spain's Alex Marquez (Ducati-Gresini). Marquez's older brother and series leader Marc Marquez (Ducati), will start on the second row, having timed fourth fastest in qualifying. Marc Marquez — who is the only other rider apart from Quartararo to have started on pole this season — has had a rough couple of days, having fallen twice in Friday's practice sessions. 'They were not high speed crashes but the problem was the run-off areas were made up of large pebbles and not gravel like the other race tracks,' said Marquez, who had suffered bruising and also had to have a stitch to seal a cut in his jaw. Marc Marquez leads his brother by 40 points in the standings, with Bagnaia a distant third, 110 points adrift, heading into the 10th MotoGP of the 22 race campaign.

Mercedes George Russell, the man without a contract, is fastest in Practice at Austria

George Russel is leading Mercedes' to the right direction along with rookie Kimi Antonelli. | AFP Image: AFP George Russell will need to fight tooth and nail for the second half of the season to hopefully get his bosses signature on his contract for next year. Russell was the fastest through the first free practice session at Spielberg on Friday ahead of Round 11's Austrian Grand Prix. Russell ran the fastest lap of the session with his 1:05:542 second lap at the Red Bull Ring, ahead of Max Verstappen. McLaren's Oscar Piastri finished the session in P3 with the most impressive driver of the day behind him - Formula 2's Alex Dunne. Dunne drove in place of Lando Norris for McLaren as part of regulations which dictate that a F2 driver take the seat during practice. Verstappen was just shy of Russell's pace - who is definitely looking to secure a consecutive win in Austria and prove to Toto Wolff that he deserves the coveted main seat of Mercedes for another season. 'It's not something that I'm pressing massively because, as I've always said, the performance is the priority, and I feel with the performance I'm showing at the moment – still in line with the performance I've shown over all these years – I've got zero reasons to be worried. But obviously it does help if there was pen on paper,' the British driver said during the Austrian GP media day.

REVIEW: Lego's Speed Champions F1, an adrenaline build

Speed Champions basically puts racing car lovers in the driver's seat. With Formula One fever revving up in South Africa, with a grand prix expected possibly in 2027, the country is lapping up racing merchandise, including Lego's Speed Champions F1 cars. As a massive F1 fan, I was excited to hear of the partnership between F1 and Lego when it was unveiled in November 2024. F1 If you love to build, the Lego Speed Champions F1 cars will heighten your F1 fever and tenacity to be a kid again as excitement builds in South Africa for lineup of Red Bulls Max Verstappen, Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton and McLaren's Lando Norris on the starting grid. With lots of parts, techniques and a large array of drivers and sponsors, Lego has gone all out with this review starting with a…..NEEEEEEEEOOOOOOOWWWWWWW! The Lego Speed Champions feature F1 cars currently racing on the Formula One circuit and with a F1 Grand Prix possibly being held in South Africa in 2027, these racers are getting a lot of attention., Speed Champions basically puts racing car lovers in the driver's seat with realistic vehicle models from familiar racing competitors. ALSO READ: Lego Formula One cars at Miami Grand Prix ignite F1 fever in SA Build I found the cars easy to build and not particularly challenging. If you work really fast, you can build the F1 car of your choice in 30 to 60 minutes. Each set consists of six bags in total, with the build completed in three separate sections. In addition, each set comes with a plethora of stickers which replicate the true F1 car as they are all covered in sponsors to help promote the team. Small While speed is the essence of F1 cars, no pun is intended when I say that the sets were a quick build and somewhat slightly faded the brain teaser of where the next part goes. All 10 current F1 team constructors are represented. Individually, each car is not a big build. The Ferrari, for example, is just 275 pieces, while the Mercedes is 267. The cars themselves are also quite small, coming in at 20cm in length and only 8cm wide. When you compare these measures to their Lego Technic counterparts, such as the McLaren Technic set, they are considerably smaller, which is a bit disappointing. However, this is particularly beneficial for storage reasons, as they take up less space on the shelf, allowing for more room for Lego. Availability and pricing Although I have only experienced three of the 10 builds, these sets are a must for every F1 fan, albeit some very minor issues including under-detailed racing suit and the price is a bit high, but the high level of detail goes some way to justify the asking price. Lego's Speed Champions F1 cars include Ferrari, Mercedes, Alpine, Williams, Haas, McLaren, Aston Martin, Red Bull, Sauber and Visa Cash RB. They retail for R499 each.
