Werder Bremen show interest in Igor Matanović
Werder Bremen join Borussia Mönchengladbach and Freiburg in their pursuit of Eintracht Frankfurt attacker Igor Matanović, according to DeichStube.
With Oliver Burke joining Union Berlin and André Silva returning to RB Leipzig following an uninspiring loan spell, Bremen are looking to bolster their attack for the 2025/26 season. In their sights is Matanović, who only managed 300 minutes in the top-flight for Eintracht last season. With fellow Bundesliga clubs interested alongside Bremen, interest in Matanović is certainly high and Eintracht are ready to part ways with the Croat, either on loan or a permanent basis.

Matanović has only scored two goals and provided one assist in 25 games for Eintracht Frankfurt since his move from St. Pauli in 2021. The now 22-year-old was loaned back to his former club for two seasons before spending the 2023/24 campaign on loan at 2. Bundesliga side Karlsruher, where he scored 16 goals in 32 games.
At Bremen, Matanović would provide competition for Marvin Ducksch, Justin Njinmah and Marco Grüll.

Harvey Elliott gesture to Germany raises eyebrows after leading England to trophy
Liverpool midfielder Harvey Elliott was seen gesturing to Germany after helping England retain its European Under-21 crown with another sublime performance for the Three Lions. Elliott, 22, scored the opening goal in a 3-2 win over Germany in the European Under-21 final, which was his fifth of the tournament. Elliott has been heavily linked with a move away from Liverpool this summer, with several Premier League teams interested in signing the talented midfielder. Advertisement The former Fulham star was also named Player of the Tournament for his heroics in Slovakia, which is expected to boost Liverpool's asking price should the club entertain a sale. However, Elliott hasn't just gone viral for his performances, but his conduct after the final whistle. While some fans theorized that Elliott's gesture was rude, it more likely represents England now winning back-to-back U21 championships. Advertisement England beat Spain 1-0 in 2023 and defended the title against Germany on Saturday. England made the dream start when Elliott scored after five minutes, and Omari Hutchinson made it 2-0 shortly after. Germany hit back just before half-time through Nelson Weiper before Paul Nebel equalized after 61 minutes. Jonathan Rowe became England's hero in extra time, as he sealed the victory with his first touch of the game. Elliott's opener was his fifth of the tournament and his 14th as a member of the England U21s. Elliott has now scored more goals than Alan Shearer at U21 level, and is second on the all-time list behind Eddie Nketiah (16 goals from 2018-2021). Advertisement The 22-year-old was heavily praised by former England international Conor Coady, who said during Channel 4's coverage of the European Under-21 final: "I don't think he needs to help his confidence; I think he's a confident boy anyway and you see that at Liverpool week in, week out, when he plays. "We've seen that in this competition. We've said before about him being a leader - I think he's shown that he's a leader - but I think it's massively important the next step he takes in his career. Whatever he does now, whether that be at Liverpool or elsewhere, that he goes plays and plays a lot. "I think he's at that level now where he has shown to all of us and all the supporters that he is ready for that next level." Elliott's stock is at an all-time high after his stunning performance at the U21 Euros -Credit:2025 UEFA Coady's thoughts were echoed by former England star Jermain Defoe, who added: "He's one of the senior boys now. He's seen it and he's done it. To want to play it, first of all, credit to him, and to produce with a lot pressure… it's a massive summer. Advertisement "We don't know what he's going to do, I'm sure he will have loads of options because he is a quality player. But to do what he's done and Player of the Tournament, five goals… what a tournament." Defoe believes Elliott could leave Liverpool this summer and has urged him to become a star elsewhere if his future is away from Anfield. "There'll be a lot of clubs watching this tournament. We said it before, he's too good to not be playing," Defoe said. "When you're producing in big tournaments like this against the best players... he's a top, top player. For him, he just needs to go out and play, get himself in a team where he's one of the main players, and just go out and express yourself and show how good you are."

Gittens set for Chelsea move after Moukoko also leaves Dortmund
Borussia Dortmund's Jamie Gittens celebrates his side's first goal of the game during the German Bundesliga soccer match between Borussia Moenchengladbach and Borussia Dortmund at Borussia-Park stadium. Borussia Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke has dismissed speculation that he met with Bayern Munich board member for sports Max Eberl over a potential sale of Dortmund forward Jamie Gittens to the Bundesliga champions. Federico Gambarini/dpa Winger Jamie Gittens is set to join Chelsea after an agreement in principle has been reached with his current club Borussia Dortmund. The Bundesliga side confirmed the news on Saturday at their Club World Cup camp in Florida. Advertisement Gittens, 23, was already on his way to tournament quarters of Chelsea, who were playing a last 16 match against Benfica later in the day in Charlotte, North Carolina. Chelsea had initially aimed to sign Gittens before the start of the Club World Cup but reportedly did not meet Dortmund's demand of an estimated €65 million ($76 million). The fee the clubs have now agreed upon was not given by Dortmund. Gittens, who did not feature for Dortmund in the US due to illness, is reportedly to receive a contract until 2032 at the Blues. Dortmund had earlier Saturday announced the sale of forward Youssoufa Moukoko to Copenhagen for a reported €5 million. Advertisement "It's not easy to say goodbye to a club like Dortmund, because this club, my team-mates, coaches and the great fans will always mean a lot to me," Moukoko said. Moukoko joined Dortmund's academy at age 11. In 2020, at the age of 16, he became the youngest player to play a Bundesliga game and score a league goal. Last season, he played at Nice on loan. "Unfortunately, his development has recently stalled. I'm sure everyone involved would have liked it to be different," sporting director Sebastian Kehl said.

England defend Under-21 Euro crown with dramatic win over Germany
Jonathan Rowe scored the winner as England won a second straight Under-21 Euro title (TOMAS BENEDIKOVIC) England successfully defended their Under-21 European Championship title as Jonathan Rowe's header gave Lee Carlsey's team a 3-2 extra-time victory over Germany in the final on Saturday. The reigning champions took an early two-goal lead but were pegged back as Germany took the match to an added half-hour. Advertisement Marseille winger Rowe provided the crucial moment in the 92nd minute as England secured their fourth Under-21 Euro title, moving one ahead of Germany and just one behind joint record five-time winners Spain and Italy. England raced into a fifth-minute lead as Liverpool midfielder Harvey Elliott collected a loose ball and calmly stroked in his fifth goal of the tournament. Carsley's side threatened to run riot as they regularly cut Germany open on the counter-attack, and Omari Hutchinson drilled in their second goal 20 minutes later after being set up by James McAtee. Manchester City midfielder McAtee almost added a third before the break but was denied by a fine save from German goalkeeper Noah Atubolu. Advertisement Nelson Weiper, who also scored in Germany's group-stage win over England, dragged his team back into the contest in first-half stoppage time, powering Paul Nebel's cross into the net with a bullet header. The Germans drew level just after the hour as Nebel picked up a second ball from a corner and fired a shot past goalkeeper James Beadle with the aid of a slight deflection. Germany almost grabbed victory in injury time, but Nebel's shot came back off the crossbar. England reclaimed the lead in the second minute of extra time, as Tyler Morton's brilliant cross was headed home by fellow substitute Rowe. Germany again went within a whisker of scoring in injury time, but Merlin Roehl's thunderous strike rattled the bar as England clung on. jc/pb
