Soulja Boy arrested on suspected weapons charge during traffic stop

Soulja Boy has been arrested and charged with possession of a firearm during a traffic stop. The rapper, whose real name is DeAndre Cortez Way, was a passenger in the car that was stopped in the Fairfax area of Los Angeles early on Sunday morning, the LAPD said. "A passenger was detained and police arrested DeAndre Cortez Way for being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm," the statement added. Possessing a firearm as a convicted felon is a felony. The 35-year-old was booked into jail in the LAPD's Wilshire Division shortly after 6am. It is not clear if he has since been released. Police did not provide information on what prompted the traffic stop and who else was in the vehicle with Way. Soulja Boy is best known for his 2007 hit Crank That, which topped the Billboard Hot 100 for seven weeks and landed him a nomination for best rap song at the Grammys. The rapper was arrested and charged with a felony in 2014 for carrying a loaded gun during a traffic stop in LA. In April this year, the Chicago hip-hop artist was ordered to pay more than $4m (£3m) in damages to his former assistant after being found liable for sexually assault, as well as physically and emotionally abusing them.

New Zealand woman arrested after 2-year-old girl found alive in suitcase stowed in bus luggage

A New Zealand woman was arrested on a child neglect charge Sunday after a bus driver found a 2-year-old girl alive in a suitcase that was stowed in the vehicle's luggage compartment, authorities said. The bus driver noticed movement inside the bag during a planned stop at the settlement of Kaiwaka, north of Auckland, after a passenger asked for access to the luggage compartment, Detective Inspector Simon Harrison said in a statement. When the driver opened the suitcase they discovered the 2-year-old girl, who was very hot but otherwise appeared physically unharmed, Harrison said. Authorities didn't disclose the length of time the toddler was in the baggage compartment or which cities the bus was traveling between. The child was taken to a hospital, where she remained Sunday night local time. The arrested woman was charged with ill-treatment or neglect of a child and was due to appear in court Monday. She was not named by law enforcement. The bus company InterCity confirmed to New Zealand news outlets that the episode involved one of its vehicles. The company does not charge fares for children younger than 3 years, who can travel for free on an adult's lap.

Soulja Boy included frames of his trip to his SODMG Brand clothing store off Melrose Avenue, the LA shopping thoroughfare where he was arrested early Sunday. Among the Stories clips included a promotional picture for a party at the Hollywood, California nightclub Poppy in honor of his recent birthday celebration. Soulja Boy, who was past involved with Blac Chyna, captioned the shot, 'Who's sliding with me?' Soulja Boy, who has past clashed with Kanye West, also shared footage from inside his SODMG Brand studios. Inside, the studio was decorated with a plaque commemorating 23,000,000 streams on Spotify and another boasting over 1 billion streams on seperate platform. 'I don't need no security,' Soulja Boy said in another frame which appeared to be from the nightclub, where was surrounded by dozens of partygoers celebrating in his honor. Eight months into 2025, it's safe to say the Speakers Going Hammer rapper has had a challenging year. In April, a Los Angeles court ordered him to pay $4 million in compensatory damages in connection with a sexual assault case he was involved in amid allegations from an ex-assistant. Soulja Boy told Rolling Stone at the time of the court decision that he has never been 'charged or convicted of this, criminally,' in reference to sexual assault. 'The district attorney never filed charges,' he said. 'So, to be accused of this civilly is beyond me. I've never done any of the things they're accusing me of. I just feel like this is very unfair.' He later told the publication in a statement: 'I want to make it clear that I'm innocent. This case was never about justice. 'It was about money and personal gain, and I will not let that stand. I am committed to filing an appeal and fighting for the truth to be revealed.'
