Amit Shah unveils National Cooperation Policy 2025

The Hindua day ago
Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah unveiled the National Cooperation Policy 2025 on Thursday (July 24, 2025), aiming to connect 50 crore people with the cooperative sector.
Dalits, Adivasis and women are at the core of the new cooperative policy, Mr. Shah said. This is only the second such policy for the sector since Independence, with the first being introduced in 2002 by Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee's government.
Expressing confidence that India will become the third largest economy by 2027, the Minister emphasised the need for the inclusive development of 130 crore people, noting that it is the cooperative sector that has the potential to change the lives of people.
'Only way to achieve aspirations'
'The 80 crore people who have got cylinders, houses by the government are wondering what to do next? Many people got electricity for the first time, they have a vaccum in their life, now they aspire for an iron [for clothes] or a Scooty... but they don't have the capital. Only the cooperative sector can help them in achieving their aspirations,' Mr. Shah said.
The Minister said that the policy defines six pillars to achieve the set goals for the cooperative sector: strengthening the foundation, promoting vibrancy, preparing cooperative societies for the future, enhancing inclusivity and expanding reach, expanding into new sectors, and preparing the younger generation for cooperative development.
The Ministry of Cooperation has prepared a detailed plan for sectors like tourism, taxi services, insurance, and green energy, Mr. Shah said, adding that a start will be made in the taxi and insurance sectors in a very short time. The profits generated through these units will ultimately reach the members of Primary Agricultural Credit Societies (PACS) at the rural level. He emphasised that the goal is to build a large and robust cooperative ecosystem and firmly establish the belief that cooperation can be a vital instrument for the country's development for future generations.

Congress has been anti-quota for generations: BJP's Dharmendra Pradhan

NEW DELHI: BJP on Friday rejected Rahul Gandhi 's statement regretting that he could not get the UPA regime to conduct a caste census in its 10 year-tenure at the Centre. "He makes it look like a confession but it actually is a camouflage, because the real problem is Congress leadership's DNA. It started with Nehru ji who got B R Ambedkar defeated twice to ensure the lead author of the Constitution and the inspiration for our Dalits did not enter Parliament. Indira Gandhi hounded another great Dalit leader, Jagjivan Ram out of the party and Sonia Gandhi humiliated Sitaram Kesri. Rahul's crocodile tears cannot obscure these facts," said Union minister Dharmendra Pradhan. "Successive generations of Congress leadership have been against reservation. Nehru ji wrote to CMs to make the false claim that quotas hurt efficiency and Rahul Gandhi spoke for hours in Lok Sabha to oppose the implementation of the Mandal commission and incited caste riots. As against this, an OBC from BJP, Narendra Modi, has led three consecutive govts at the Centre, to become the longest-serving PM after Nehru ji," Pradhan further said. He also accused Rahul of making false claims about vacant reserved posts for SCs/STs and OBCs in central universities. "Rahul Gandhi has lied once again today... I asked him openly to speak either in Parliament or outside on how many 'not found suitable' categories were converted into general in their tenure and PM Modi's tenure. He also said that posts are lying vacant in central institutions... There has been a record campaign to fill posts which is ongoing. Congress is anti-OBC, SC, ST," said the minister. He and BJP spokesman Sudhanshu Trivedi also took on Congress for its opposition to the revision of electoral rolls in Bihar. On a day when the Congress president tore off a document supposed to symbolise EC's SIR, Pradhan said, "This proved they all copy the leadership's negative politics. Rahul had torn off the copy of an ordinance which had been approved by the Cabinet and cleared by the President. Kharge saheb had to show his loyalty by shredding what they called SIR when EC, a constitutional body, is acting as per Constitution and law of the land". Trivedi said Kharge's "protest" reflects their "mindset" of recognising constitutional bodies on the basis "of whether they won elections". He said: "If Indira ji said the recognition of constitutional bodies would be decided on the basis of whether she won elections or not, today Rahul says EC's credibility would be decided on the basis of whether his party won elections or not".

Is Election Commission 'stealing' election as opposition alleges? Experts debate

The India Today roundtable delves into the Election Commission of India's Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar, a contentious exercise ahead of the November polls. The revision has excluded over 65 lakh voters, igniting political controversy. Opposition parties, including the Rashtriya Janata Dal and Congress's Rahul Gandhi, allege voter disenfranchisement, calling it a threat to democracy and hinting at poll boycotts. Critics claim the move targets marginalised groups like Dalits, OBCs, Adivasis, and Muslims. Meanwhile, the Modi government and the Election Commission defend the SIR as essential for removing deceased, shifted, and duplicate voters to uphold electoral integrity. The debate examines the EC's neutrality, transparency, and timing, with accusations of it acting as a government tool.

Cong manifesto ‘biggest lie of the century': KTR

Hyderabad: Stating that development in Telangana came to a standstill after the Congress assumed power in 2023, BRS working president KT Rama Rao said that BRS president K Chandrasekhar Rao should once again become chief minister to revive the state's progress. He also criticised the Congress govt for failing to fulfil its promises and described CM A Revanth Reddy as anti-Dalit and anti-Adivasi. Addressing a Dalit Maha Sabha meeting in Kamareddy on Friday, the BRS working president accused the Congress party of deceiving the public with its manifesto promises during the assembly elections, calling the manifesto "the biggest lie of the century". He claimed that all sections of society in the state were misled and betrayed. He further alleged that the Congress had failed to implement the Chevella SC-ST Declaration. "The Congress party promised to increase the Dalit Bandhu scheme to 12 lakh from 10 lakh. It also pledged to allocate 26% of govt contracts to SCs and STs, and to provide 6 lakh to Dalits and STs for house construction on their own land. None of these promises have been fulfilled," KTR said. KTR also criticised CM Revanth Reddy for his inability to generate revenue and for failing to ensure the provision of hygienic food and potable water to students in govt residential welfare institutions. During the event, KTR felicitated a man named Sailu from Lingampet, who was allegedly humiliated at the Ambedkar statue on April 14. MSID:: 122907245 413 |
