Montana fugitive's brother serving life sentence for separate murder conviction in same town

The brother of a Montana man who is on the run after allegedly shooting four people to death in a small-town bar has a brother who is currently serving a life sentence, Fox News Digital has confirmed.
William Brown was sentenced to 110 years in prison in 2002 for the stabbing death of another man in Anaconda, Montana, which stemmed from an argument over a relationship, according to KBZK. The first 100 years of the sentence were handed down for the murder, and the other 10 for the use of a deadly weapon during the crime.
Brown is the brother of Michael Paul Brown, 45, who is a fugitive from justice after he allegedly shot and killed four people in a bar, also in the town of Anaconda, on Friday morning.
The Army veteran allegedly opened fire in The Owl Bar at around 10:00 a.m. on that day, killing 59-year-old Daniel Edwin Baillie, 64-year-old Nancy Lauretta Kelley, 70-year-old David Allen Leach, and 74-year-old Tony Wayne Palm. All the victims are from Anaconda.
Since then, an intense manhunt has been underway in mountainous central Montana, as authorities desperately try to apprehend Brown, who they say is armed and dangerous.
What precipitated the shooting remains unknown.
On Friday evening, authorities released a photo of a shirtless Brown wearing a black shirt, climbing down what appears to be concrete steps. They also announced that they had located a white Ford F-150 truck belonging to Brown, which they say he used to flee the scene of the shooting.
A SWAT team raided his home, but did not locate him.
In a Sunday night update, authorities said the search for Brown included air and ground resources.
Brown was an armor crewman in the Army from January 2001 to May 2005 and served in the National Guard from April 2006 to March 2008, Army Public Affairs confirmed to Fox News Digital. He deployed to Iraq from February 2004 to March 2005 and left the service with the rank of sergeant.
He also served in the Montana National Guard from April 2006 to March 2009.

Hunt enters day 5 for Army soldier accused in Montana bar killings

The manhunt for an ex-U.S. Army soldier accused of killing a bartender and three patrons at a rural Montana bar last week entered day five on Tuesday, Aug. 5, and officials have upped an initial reward to $10,000 for information leading to his capture. Law enforcement said quadruple murder suspect Michael Paul Brown, 45, walked into The Owl Bar in the small city of Anaconda on Aug. 1 and unleashed a barrage of bullets on the victims, Montana Attorney General Austin Knudsen said. The bar in Deer Lodge County is just over a 100-mile drive west of Bozeman, about 100 miles southeast of Missoula. Director of External Affairs Emilee Cantrell for Knudsen's office said Brown, considered armed and dangerous by police, remained at large across multiple jurisdictions, including the FBI on his trail. Cantrell told USA TODAY that Montana Gov. Greg Gianforte was slated to hold an updated press conference sometime later on Tuesday. About 10:30 a.m. local time, the suspect walked into the bar and opened fire on the victims, officials said during a news conference on Aug. 3. Video footage then captured him fleeing the scene barefoot and shirtless in a white Ford F-150. "We have very good reason to believe that he is clothed now and possibly carrying camping gear," Knudsen said. "He is probably able to get around undetected.... By all indications, this is an unstable individual." He added that officials haven't ruled out that Brown may return to the town where he lives. Who is Michael Brown? What to know about the mass killing that left 4 dead. Who are The Owl Bar shooting victims? Knudsen identified the victims as: According to the Granite County Sheriff's Office, which is also investigating the case, Brown's home is located next door to the bar. On Aug. 1, officials said SWAT cleared Brown's residence, but warned people to avoid the area. "This is an unstable individual who walked in and murdered four people in cold blood for no reason whatsoever. So there absolutely is concern for the public," Knudsen said. Montana bar shooting suspect description Authorities described Brown as 5 feet 10 inches tall, weighing about 170 pounds, with blue eyes and brown hair. Brown, a U.S. Army veteran, allegedly fled the scene in his white Ford F-150 truck. Brown served as an Army armor crewman from January 2001 to May 2005, which included a deployment to Iraq from February 2004 to March 2005, Army Maj. Dustin Ramos told USA TODAY. He served in the Montana National Guard from April 2006 to March 2009. Shark attack on pregnant woman: Former NBA player's wife bitten by shark As of Wednesday, Aug. 5, the bar, which could not be reached by USA TODAY on Tuesday, Aug. 4, appears to be temporarily closed, per an online search. He fell 25 feet over a waterfall: His screams alerted rescuers. Reward offered in Montana bar mass shooting Overnight, the U.S. Marshals Service increased its $7,500 reward by $2,500 for any information leading to Brown's arrest or capture. Manhunt intensifies for Montana bar shooting suspect, 38 agencies part of the 'unrelenting' search

Michael Paul Brown, 45, fled the scene after the Friday morning shooting. By 1:13 A manhunt is intensifying for the former U.S. Army soldier who's been at large for days after allegedly gunning down four people at a Montana bar. Michael Paul Brown, 45, is suspected of opening fire on Friday morning at The Owl Bar in Anaconda, a city of about 9,000 people in southwestern Montana, authorities said. There has not been a confirmed sighting of Brown since Friday, authorities said. Thirty-eight local, state and federal agencies are involved in the search, Anaconda Deer Lodge County Attorney Morgan Smith said. Officers are "unrelenting in their pursuit, working around the clock" to find him, Montana Gov. Greg Gianforte stressed at a news conference on Tuesday. "Rest assured, our brave men and women of law enforcement aren't giving up." The governor said he signed an executive order to use financial resources from the state emergency respond fund to help support law enforcement, including overtime. "This action today will ensure additional financial resources are available as we continue to track down this criminal," Gianforte said. The governor opened Tuesday's news conference with a moment of silence for the four victims, identified as bartender Nancy Loretta Kelly, 64, and patrons Daniel Edwin Bailey, 59; David Allen Leach, 70; and Tony Wayne Palm, 74. Brown lived next door to the bar and investigators believe he was familiar with most of the victims, authorities said. To the families, Smith said at the news conference, "Our thoughts and prayers remain with you." Brown is an Army veteran who served in the Iraq War and the Montana National Guard, according to Montana Attorney General Austin Knudsen. Brown is known to law enforcement, Knudsen said, and is believed to be armed and extremely dangerous. A $10,000 reward has been offered by the U.S. Marshals Service for any information leading to Brown's capture, Knudsen said. He asked anyone with information to call 1-877-WANTED2.
