
Sindh Theatre Festival kicks off in Larkana
Curtain lifted for the 10-day Sindh Theater Festival Larkana with "Ishq Fisq" Love or Lust, a thought-provoking play by Wajid Aazad centred on the issue of drug addiction.
The performance highlighted the devastating impact of substance abuse on youth and was met with widespread praise for the powerful acting and socially conscious message.
The festival will continue daily until June 22, with performances starting each evening at 8:30pm at the Arts Council Larkana.
The lineup includes powerful stage plays such as "Daywidhi" by Amjad Abro, "Kati a konhay doh " (Ufaq Basheer Channa), "Thano Siyano" (Shameem Abbasi), "Taraqi jo rasto" (Rafique Abro), "Bhala Re Bhaag" (Ayoob Gaad), "Wah JoAayhan" (Asad Khokhar), "Bewas" (Asad Khokhar) "Aas Naras" (Ufaq Basheer Channa), and the concluding day will feature "Qaidyani" or female prisoner by Loung Sheikh.
Arts Council Larkana organised the festival in collaboration and support from the Arts Council of Pakistan Karachi.
The opening day saw Larkana Commissioner Larkana Tahir Sangi, Folk Heritage Committee of the Arts Council Karachi Chairman Dr Ayub Shaikh, and Chairman Music Committee Amjad Hussain Shah. President of Arts Council Larkana, Ismail Jatoi, Secretary Hanif Suhag, along with theatre artists, showbiz personalities, and a large number of local citizens, also participated enthusiastically.

Curtain falls on Larkana theatre festival

Photo: NNI Arts Council of Pakistan, Karachi and the Arts Council Larkana jointly concluded the 10-day Sindh Theatre Festival Larkana 2025. The event's chief guest Larkana District Council Chairman Ejaz Laghari along with President of Arts Council Larkana Ismail Jatoi, Secretary Hanif Suhag, Governing Body members, artists, and a large audience attended the concluding ceremony. Laghari emphasised that festival would help discover new artists and producers. Jatoi remarked that the 10-day event was a testament to the dedication and hard work of the participating artists. Theater plays presented in the festival included Wajid Azad's "Ishq Fishq", "Daywidhi" by Amjad Abro, among other plays. At the end of the program, the directors of 10 plays were awarded performance shields.

Balochi drama draws laurels
KARACHI: In a dazzling display of theatrical brilliance, Balochi drama 'Wash Rang' or beautiful captivated audiences at the Arts Council of Pakistan Karachi's 21-day Awami Theatre Festival. The play narrates story of a woman, Wash Rang, who is admired for her beauty. A man attracted to her, takes his father to her home with a marriage proposal. As the story unfolds, a mesmerising tale of desire, deception, and downfall ensues as overwhelmed by her beauty, the father becomes interested in tying knot with the girl himself. This sparks a dispute between the lovers which escalates to the police station. In a surprising twist, the police officer also gets captivated by Wash Rang's beauty and expresses his desire to marry her. The case then goes in the court of a minister who declares Wash Rang his fiancée. Consequently, a wealthy leader was approached to resolve the complexed issue. Awestruck by the woman's beauty, the leader does not hesitate declaring Wash Rang his long-lost fourth wife. Meanwhile, Wash Rang proposes a run to settle the dispute, she will marry the man who catches her but the men's pursuit ends in tragedy as they fall into a well, chasing the woman. Wash Rang's words serve as a haunting reminder, "The beautiful world you pursue is beyond your reach." As the men plead for help, Wash Rang remains resolute, emphasising that their time for redemption has passed. She emphasised that they had the opportunity to improve themselves, but instead, they chose to pursue worldly desires. In the end, everyone in the well drowns, and Wash Rang disappears, concluding the play. The author masterfully employs personification, transforming worldly pleasures into a breathtakingly beautiful woman, Wash Rang, whose allure proves fatal. The play, written and directed by Danish Baloch, with Wali Raees as assistant director, included Abeeha Pyari, Danish Baloch, Shakeel Murad, Zareen Askani, Javed Iqbal, Atta Gul, Atta Deedag, Waqas Baloch, Yaseen Baloch, Nadeem Maliri, and Lal Muhammad Askani as cast.
