Sabah's sovereignty intact, says Hajiji
He expressed gratitude to the federal government and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim for the government's commitment to protecting the rights and sovereignty of the state.
He said that the state government greatly values the various forms of assistance and initiatives provided by the federal government, particularly in areas such as infrastructure, healthcare, education, and security.
"The strong ties and close cooperation with the federal government will continue to be upheld to ensure that Sabah is not left behind in national development,' he said.
Hajiji said this in his address at the 2025 Sabah State Honours and Awards investiture ceremony held at Istana Seri Kinabalu on Saturday (June 21), where 60 individuals were conferred state honours, awards and medals by the Yang Dipertua Negeri of Sabah Tun Musa Aman.
Hajiji also gave his assurance that the implementation of inclusive and comprehensive development policies under the Sabah Maju Jaya (SMJ) roadmap will be further enhanced as part of ongoing efforts to ensure the progress and well-being of Sabahans.
He said that since its introduction, the road map has had a significant impact, particularly in areas such as economic recovery, investment, agriculture, human capital development, and the overall well-being of the people.
He added that the state government is focusing on the development of the agricultural sector, which plays a crucial role in ensuring food security in Sabah, noting that the key initiatives include the establishment of the Sabah Padi and Rice Board (LPBS) and the launch of the Paddy Crop Takaful Scheme (STTP), aimed at raising the state's rice self-sufficiency level from the current 24 per cent to 60 per cent by 2030.
Hajiji also said the state government has approved the establishment of the Sabah TVET Council to coordinate and monitor technical and vocational education and training in line with current industry needs.
"We want to ensure that Sabah's youth are equipped with the knowledge and skills needed to contribute to the development of the state and the nation,' he added. - Bernama

DP World Sabah Berhad urged to put off new policy

Kota Kinabalu: The President of the Sabah United Chinese Chambers of Commerce (SUCCC), Datuk Michael Lui, has called on Sabah Ports Berhad and DP World Sabah Berhad to postpone the implementation of a new policy reducing the container berthing period from eight days to five days, scheduled to take effect on July 15, citing serious congestion at the Sepanggar Bay Container Terminal. He warned that current delays at the port have already slowed down loading operations from one to two hours per container to three to four hours, with transporters now only able to move an average of two to three containers per day. 'Hundreds of containers are left waiting. This is not just inefficient—it's disruptive to the entire supply chain,' he said. He stressed that implementing the five day berthing limit amid existing logistical bottlenecks would only worsen the situation. SUCCC is also urging port authorities to defer the imposition of demurrage, removal charges, and removal surcharges until the end of October 2025, giving time for improvements to be made. These proposals were raised during a courtesy visit by SUCCC's Logistics and Transportation Sub-Committee, led by Michael, to Sabah Ports and service contractor DP World Sabah. The group was received by Sabah Ports Managing Director Datuk Ng Kiat Min and DP World Sabah's Shafu Anbas, who both agreed to relay the suggestions to senior management. Michael said the congestion must be resolved urgently, noting that only through full cooperation between all stakeholders—including Sabah Ports, DP World, shipping lines, freight forwarders, transporters, and traders—can a long-term solution be found. He added that while the 17.2 per cent increase in container volume to 501,944 TEUs in 2024 and the total port throughput of 28.9 million tonnes reflect positive trade growth, the current infrastructure is not keeping pace. The root of the problem, he explained, lies in space constraints at the port. The federal-funded expansion project is only 26 per cent complete, and Michael urged the federal government to expedite the release of funds to speed up construction and ease congestion. 'In the meantime, we appreciate DP World's effort to introduce a vehicle booking system to help manage traffic, but that alone is not enough. 'We must implement short, medium, and long-term measures to boost capacity and improve efficiency,' he said. Michael, who is also President of the Kota Kinabalu Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KKCCCI), said the inefficiencies at Sepanggar have wider economic implications, affecting imports, exports, business operations, and ultimately the livelihood of Sabahans. Businessman Albert Tei reported to police over ‘seditious' remarks on Sabah chief minister
KOTA KINABALU, July 2 — A police report has been lodged against businessman Datuk Albert Tei over allegedly malicious and defamatory statements implicating Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor while facing legal proceedings. Special Officer to the Chief Minister, Mazlan Joehari Manan, filed the report at the Kota Kinabalu district police headquarters over Tei's remarks made at the Kota Kinabalu High Court compound on Monday which he said were false, malicious and defamatory. 'Tei has openly alleged and issued a warning or reminder to the public that should anything happen to him — including kidnapping, murder, or disappearance — the chief minister of Sabah and nine other individuals should be held responsible. 'This allegation constitutes a serious criminal accusation and is seditious in nature against the chief minister,' said Mazlan. He added that the remarks also implied that the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) and the National Registration Department (JPN) were guilty of selective investigation and prosecution. 'Given that the case involving Albert and two state assemblymen is already before the court for trial, Albert should not have made public statements via press conference that convey negative perceptions, false and defamatory claims, or that cast other parties — including the chief minister, MACC and JPN — in a bad light. 'Both directly and indirectly, Albert has also committed contempt of court (sub judice) by attempting to create a trial by media,' he said. The police report was filed to prompt legal action in response to Tei's conduct. On Monday, Tei, Sindumin assemblyman Datuk Dr Yusof @ Josree Yacob, and Tanjung Batu assemblyman Datuk Andi Muhammad Suryady Bandy pleaded not guilty in the Sessions Court here to corruption charges involving mineral mining licences in the state in 2023. Dr Yusof was charged with receiving RM200,000 in cash, while Andi was accused of receiving RM150,000 in March and May 2023, respectively. Tei was charged with offering the bribes. Tei questioned why only two assemblymen had been charged in the eight months since the MACC began investigating a series of released videos, despite him having 'given stronger evidence' against seven others. 'They caught the small fry, but the sharks are still roaming around,' he told reporters outside the courthouse. He further said that if anything bad were to happen to him or if he went missing, the 10 individuals would be to blame.
