CF Montreal beats New York City 1-0 to net first home win
Victor Loturi was the lone goal scorer for Montreal (3-12-5), which completed the season sweep over New York (8-7-4) for the first time ever.
Montreal started the game at Stade Saputo on the front foot, looking to progress from the wide areas of the field and break down a resolute New York low block. Dante Sealy on the right wing was particularly potent in the opening stages of play, driving most of Montreal's attack.
In the 23rd minute, he found himself isolated with a defender and let off a powerful shot that was spilled to Loturi, who made no mistake and scored his first goal for the club. With momentum and the lead, Montreal continued to press for a second goal but to no avail.
New York responded in kind, closing out the half with an attacking stint of its own, forcing Montreal to drop deep and absorb pressure for the first time. They continued the pressure in the second half in search of an equalizer, but a solid and collective Montreal defence was able to withstand the attack and generate attacking threats.
Around the hour mark, Montreal had two golden opportunities to double the lead.
An intricate sequence from a corner kick left Luca Petrasso completely unmarked in front of the goal, but he was unable to control the bouncing ball. Moments later, Jules-Anthony Vilsaint was played through on goal, only to be denied by a fingertip save from Tomas Romero.
As the game continued, New York became increasingly desperate and threw more players forward as Montreal dropped into a defensive shell. However, Montreal saw out the closing stages comfortably, denying any real scoring threat and maintaining its shape until the final whistle.

Montreal: Will face Inter Miami on July 5 if the Florida side is eliminated from the FIFA Club World Cup. If Miami advances, Montreal's next game will be the second leg of the Canadian Championship quarterfinals against Forge FC.

Justin Fields returns to Jets practice day after toe injury
Justin Fields returned to the practice field on Friday, but the New York Jets' starting quarterback did not participate in drills a day after suffering an injury to a toe on his right foot. Fields was carted off the field early during Thursday's practice and is now being evaluated by the Jets staff on a daily basis. The 26-year-old, in the first year of a $40 million contract with the Jets, wore his helmet Friday as he spent most of practice on the sideline and with the rest of the offense. He appeared to be walking without a noticeable limp. Veteran backup QB Tyrod Taylor led New York's offense during practice, with Adrian Martinez and rookie Brady Cook also receiving snaps. Fields was hurt when a teammate stepped on his foot while he threw an incomplete pass to Jeremy Ruckert on his fifth play of team drills on Thursday. The Jets' QB1 sat on the grass for a few moments before getting up and limping badly to the sideline while being helped by a trainer. He then sat in the passenger seat of a cart that took him from the field to the facility, where he got up and walked under his own power. "When anybody goes down, there's a lump in my throat," head coach Aaron Glenn said. "Listen, I hate injuries for any player, but the thing is I want to make sure that I understand exactly what the injury is before I move forward on my thought process." The team later said Fields would be evaluated daily and that it was unlikely he'd miss significant time. Fields signed a two-year, $40 million contract with the Jets in March after appearing in 10 games for the Pittsburgh Steelers last season. Taylor, the Jets' oldest player who turns 36 in August, is the backup and immediately replaced Fields in team drills. Fields was selected No. 11 overall by the Chicago Bears in the 2021 NFL Draft out of Ohio State. In three seasons with the Bears, he went 10-28 as a starter, before landing with the Steelers. Fields was 4-2 as Pittsburgh's starter before being supplanted by veteran Russell Wilson.

Patriots will reveal new alternate "Rivalries" uniforms on Monday
We know the Patriots will wear their red "Pat Patriot" uniforms twice during the 2025 NFL season. They'll also don new alternate "Rivalries" threads for their Thursday Night Football tilt against the New York Jets in November, the team announced Friday. What will those alternate unis look like? You have to wait until next week to find out. The Patriots made a pair of social media posts on Friday teasing their new uniforms, which will be officially revealed on Monday, August 28. There's not much to take from those two posts, with the first video showing a current road white uniform blowing in the rain and wind. The second video pumps up the Boston vs. New York rivalry and tells fans to "Batten down the hatches…a Nor'easter hits the 𝙉𝙁𝙇 𝙉𝙞𝙠𝙚 𝙍𝙞𝙫𝙖𝙡𝙧𝙞𝙚𝙨 game on November 13 vs. the New York Jets," so maybe they'll have some kind of weather theme to them. We'll find out Monday if the new threads are better than the old "Color Rush" uniforms teams had to previously trot out for TNF games, or just as ugly. Each team is getting a new alternate look this season as part of the NFL's "Rivalries" uniform program, which the league initially announced back in April. The Jets will also reveal their rivalry unis on Monday, but they won't be wearing them on Nov. 13 in Foxboro. Patriots fans will get to see the team wear a variety of uniforms at Gillette this season. While the usual home blues will dominate most of the Foxboro slate, the Patriots announced they'll be wearing their red throwback uniforms in Week 3 when the Steelers come to town and in Week 13 when they host the New York Giants on Monday Night Football.
