Fatal Colorado I-70 crash near Frisco draws attention to extreme weather dangers, even in summer
Colorado state troopers responded to a one-vehicle rollover crash on I-70 at milepost 198, west of Frisco, at approximately 4:44 p.m. Initial reports indicate a black Lexus SUV, traveling eastbound on the winding mountain road, lost control. The vehicle then crossed into the center median, rolled, and ejected the driver from the car. The driver was transported to the hospital and succumbed to their injuries.
The crash immediately impacted traffic, leading to both directions of Interstate 70 being shut down for about 20 minutes. While one eastbound lane reopened quickly, the westbound lanes remained closed for several hours as emergency crews worked the scene and the investigation began.
While the Colorado State Patrol's Vehicular Crimes Unit continues its thorough investigation into the exact cause of the crash, CPS made a note that heavy rain was falling at the time of the crash.
"We overlook sometimes that, like, well, it's just water, right?" Sgt. Ivan Alvarado, with Colorado State Patrol Public Affairs said.
Beyond the weather, the very nature of mountain roads presents a constant challenge, according to Alvarado.
"So many curves, so many ups and downs," Alvarado said. "I hate to say it, but the scenery is beautiful, right? So we're not really focusing on the driving itself (even) when it's dry."
While spots like Vail Pass are widely recognized as troublesome, Alvarado cautions against focusing on only a few known "bad spots," when traveling the mountain corridor.
"When we talk about the mountains, I mean, there's so many spots, right? Honestly, I think every spot is a spot," he said.
Investigators did not directly tie the heavy rain to the crash at this point in time.

Video shows Brooklyn auto repair shop apparently operating with expired license
A license suspension, a fine from the state and a series of CBS News New York investigations apparently isn't enough to get a Brooklyn auto repair shop to follow the law. Investigative reporter Tim McNicholas first looked into State to State Automotive back in February when customers told him the shop was holding their cars hostage. Then, just this month, McNicholas found the shop working on cars again without a license to do so. Back in February, customers Louis Denory and Sara-Lee Ramsawak told CBS News New York the garage on Atlantic Avenue held their vehicles for months and refused to return them. The shop finally returned both their cars after CBS News New York started asking questions. A month after that story aired, a Department of Motor Vehicles inspector visited the shop and said State to State failed to provide the right paperwork for Ramsawak's car and four others. The state suspended the shop's operating license until a virtual hearing in May, where the DMV asked the administrative law judge for stronger punishment — a six-month license suspension. The judge agreed State to State failed to provide work orders for four cars, despite arguments to the contrary from State to State Automotive manager Steven Ventura, but ruled against the longer suspension and instead ordered State to State pay a $1,000 fine. The DMV says the shop's license expired on May 31, so it cannot legally work on cars anyway. On July 3, however, a CBS News New York Investigates producer called State to State to ask if they'd be open to work on a car, and whoever answered said yes, asking the producer to text pictures of the car. On July 4, CBS News New York found someone applying a heat gun to a car at the shop with the garage door wide open until Ventura spotted the camera, came out and denied they're operating. "You're working on a car in there right now, though," McNicholas said. "There's nobody working on no vehicle. We're moving cars out. That's a storage lot," Ventura said. Ventura later claimed they were only cleaning the car, but a heat gun is typically used for paint jobs and detailing, not cleaning. The DMV says they're looking into the video. Truck driver dies after crashing into portable DTE generator in Allen Park
One person is dead after a pickup truck crashed into a portable DTE Energy generator in Allen Park on Thursday, DTE Energy officials said. The crash happened Thursday afternoon near Pelham Road, just south of Wick Road. DTE Energy says a driver crossed two lanes of traffic and then hit a fence surrounding the generator. CBS News Detroit's Eye in the Sky Chopper was on the scene and captured at least three vehicles involved in the crash. The crash caused a brief power outage in the area, but DTE Energy crews quickly restored power. DTE Energy released the following on the incident: DTE Energy was notified this afternoon that a car, after crossing two lanes of oncoming traffic, crashed into a barrier surrounding a staged DTE generator in Allen Park. Tragically, we have learned that the driver passed away and our thoughts are with his family and friends. The incident caused a power outage in the area. DTE crews were onsite quicky and have restored power to all affected customers. Allen Park police and DTE Energy have not said what caused the crash or released details on injuries.

Mohr seems fairly certain that road-going Temerarios will always be electrified, but of course, Lamborghini is not averse to a low-volume special edition, and it's been working on synthetic fuels, so there's always the faintest glimmer of hope. "I would not completely exclude [a non-hybrid Temerario], but it's not on the priority list," said Lamborghini's technical boss. "The probability is quite low, never say never, but at the moment, we have a lot of other things to do, and I would not bet my money on it. Just because we're going racing and it's not a hybrid, it doesn't mean this would be the right approach for the street." Thanks to tightening emissions standards, it seems unlikely that the Temerario will ever be ICE-only, but is that so bad? There's still more potential in both the engine and the axial flux motors; Mohr told Top Gear last year that over a thousand horsepower is easily possible. In addition, it was reported earlier this year that the Audi R8 could return with the Temerario's engine, and that would surely only make sense for Ingolstadt as a hybrid.
