New Delhi: A major warning against the security of the second Test of the five-match series between India and England in Edgbaston, Birmingham was raised. On Tuesday, Shubman Gill and his teammates, who are currently staying in central Birmingham, were told to remain inside, after a suspicious package was found in Centenary Square. According to a report published by PTI, the whole Indian team was asked to remain indoors owing to a warning issued on X by the Birmingham City Centre Police.
The Indian players have been touring around places close to their team hotel since their arrival in the UK. A day or two before the second Test, which was to be played on Wednesday, July 2, a considerable number of the squad were seen prowling about the Broad Street.
'We've currently got a cordon in place around Centenary Square, Birmingham city centre, while we investigate a suspicious package,' Birmingham City Centre Police wrote in a X (formerly Twitter) post.
'We were alerted just before 3 PM, and a number of buildings have been evacuated as a precaution while it's assessed. Please avoid the area,' the post added.
According to PTI, 8 players including skipper Shubman Gill went to the ground on Tuesday to train, whereas the rest of the 10 players of the squad were provided with a day off.

India will be all poised to make a comeback in the Edgbaston Test, after losing by five wickets at the first Test at Leeds. Everyone will be looking to see whether Jasprit Bumrah would be playing in the XI of the visitors.
On Tuesday, Shubman Gill spoke in the pre-match press conference. Adressing the media, he claimed that Bumrah can play the game but the decision will only be made by checking the pitch.
'We are going to have a final look at the pitch today and see what kind of combination that we want to go with,' said Gill.
The history of India in Edgbaston is pathetic, and the visitors are still to win a Test match at the ground. India have lost 7 matches out of 8 played there with one being drawn.
