Cashier pleads not guilty to exploiting woman for alleged prostitution
KOTA KINABALU (July 3): A cashier of a reflexology centre pleaded not guilty in a Sessions Court here on Thursday to a charge of allowing the exploitation for a woman for alleged prostitution purposes at the premises.
Darel Woo Kok Phin, 48, who was brought before judge Amir Shah Amir Hassan, was accused of committing the offence at the reflexology centre here at 10pm on June 19.
The charge was under Section 373 (1) (a) of the Penal Code which carries a jail term of up to 15 years and a fine, upon conviction.
The judge reserved August 5 for case management and Woo, who was unrepresented, was granted RM8,000 bail with two local sureties.
The court ordered the accused to report at a nearest police station every first and fourteen day of every month, pending disposal of the case.
Woo was further ordered to surrender his passport to court if any and reminded not to disturb any of the prosecution's witnesses.

IPOH: Police have uncovered possible links to cross-border organised crime in a recent murder case in a neighbourhood here. Perak police chief Comm Datuk Noor Hisam Nordin said initially, police believed the death of a 57-year-old man in Taman Tasek Damai on June 24 involved his son. 'The 31-year-old suspect was detained under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder. The suspect had claimed that when he returned home from work around 7.30pm, he found the front gate closed, but the grille and doors were open. The suspect said when he proceeded to the kitchen, he discovered the victim lying on his back in a pool of blood. However, on June 26, Ipoh OCPD Asst Comm Abang Zainal Abidin Abang Ahmad said a post-mortem revealed that a gunshot wound was found on the left side of the chest of the victim. Separately, Comm Noor Hisam said enforcement in the case of a fatal accident involving nine Federal Reserve Unit members on May 13 falls under the purview of the Road Transport Department (JPJ). An arrest warrant was issued by a Magistrate's Court in Teluk Intan last month against the owner of the lorry company involved in the tragedy. 'So, even though the order was issued by the court, JPJ is responsible for executing it, not the police,' he said. On the event, Comm Noor Hisam said he felt proud to witness the spirit and commitment, especially from police personnel, who have come forward to donate blood. 'I would like to emphasise that donating blood should be regarded as a shared responsibility of every member of society. 'Without the public's support, it would be impossible to have enough blood supply to meet the growing demand each year. 'At present, there are still those who have yet to overcome negative perceptions about blood donation. 'Some believe that donating blood can have side effects such as discomfort or physical weakness. 'This misconception must be corrected; blood donation should be viewed positively and embraced as a noble, life-saving act,' he added.

Freelance preacher investigated over distribution of sex videos
PETALING JAYA: A freelance religious speaker is under police investigation for allegedly sharing explicit videos involving his wives and other women, following a report lodged by his second wife. Shah Alam District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Mohd Iqbal Ibrahim, said the report was received at 12 noon on June 16. Following the report, police arrested the complainant's husband and seized two mobile phones and a laptop belonging to the suspect. 'A review of the suspect's mobile phone uncovered several sex videos involving the suspect and his wives, as well as explicit images of other women. 'The suspect was remanded for four days until July 5 and has since been released on police bail pending the completion of investigations,' he said in a statement. Mohd Iqbal said the investigation is being conducted under Section 509 of the Penal Code, Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, and Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act 1955. He added that if convicted under Section 509 of the Penal Code, the offender could face up to five years' imprisonment, a fine, or both. 'Under Section 233 of the Communications Act, offenders may be fined up to RM50,000, jailed for up to one year, or both, with an additional RM1,000 fine for each day the offence continues after conviction. 'For offences under Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act, the penalty is a fine not exceeding RM100,' he said. Preacher arrested for sharing intimate videos of wives

Shah Alam police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Iqbal Ibrahim said after the woman lodged the report on June 16, police arrested the man and seized two mobile phones and a laptop. "Initial investigations found that the mobile phones contained several sex videos involving the suspect and his wives, as well as compromising images of several other women." He said the man was remanded for four days until today and has been released on bail as investigations continue. The case is being investigated under Section 509 of the Penal Code, Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 and Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act 1955.
