Myles Lewis-Skelly signs new long-term contract at Arsenal
Myles Lewis-Skelly has signed a new long-term contract with the Arsenal on Thursday that will extend his stay at the Premier League club.
The 18-year-old enjoyed a breakthrough season in 2024/25, becoming the latest graduate from the north London club's Hale End academy to cement his position in Mikel Arteta's first-team squad.

Lewis-Skelly joined Gunners as an eight-year-old and went on to play an instrumental role in each of the age groups as he moved through the years. He signed his first professional contract on October 5, 2023.
He made his senior debut for the club on 22 September 2024 in a 2–2 draw away at Manchester City, coming on for Jurrien Timber in second-half injury time. He went on to become the first-choice left-back for Arteta as Arsenal finished the season as Premier league runners-up and lost in the semifinal of UEFA Champions League to eventual winners PSG.
Lewis-Skelly earned his first call-up to the England senior squad for the FIFA World Cup 2026 qualification matches against Albania and Latvia. He started his first game for England as a left-back against Albania on March 21 and opened the scoring in the 20th minute and was subsequently named Man of the Match.
At just 18 years and 176 days old, he etched his name in history by becoming the youngest England player to score on his senior debut, surpassing Marcus Rashford's previous record.

The Englishmen were also guilty of putting down chances, with Duckett and Harry Brook dropping Sai Sudharsan and centurion KL Rahul respectively during India's second innings. Sridhar, however, wasn't happy with India's ground fielding at Headingley, which he feels is something that is in a player's control unlike catching. 'The standard of ground fielding which is exhibited is not acceptable. Unlike catching, ground fielding is something which is totally in your control. You should know which ball to put your body behind, which ball to attack, which ball to play safe,' Sridhar added. Shubman Gill's leadership in his first Test assignment may have begun with a defeat, but former India head coach Ravi Shastri remains firm in his belief that the youngster is destined for greatness. Speaking to Wisden, Shastri backed Gill to grow into the role with time and experience, even as India went 1-0 down in the five-match series against England after a five-wicket loss at Headingley. Despite the loss in Leeds, Shastri insisted that Gill possesses a unique blend of class and composure that sets him apart. 'I'll be disappointed if Gill doesn't go places. Languid, lazy elegance, and he's got a regal element of being regal out there when he's batting. If he can learn with exposure and adapt to conditions, I think that's the one name I can see,' said Shastri. The former India coach believes that Gill's evolution off the field has been just as impressive. 'He's matured a lot. The way he handles the media, the way he talks at press conferences, at tosses, he's matured a lot,' Shastri observed, urging the selectors and the BCCI to be patient with the youngster. 'Let him be there for three years. Don't chop and change irrespective of what happens in the series. Stick with him for three years, and I think he will deliver for you.' Confident with the bat Even as Gill's captaincy came under the scanner in the opening Test, the Indian remained his confident self with a bat in his hand. Gill began his captaincy stint with a solid century in the first innings at Headingley, although he failed to make a mark in the second. Regardless, Gill's performance with the bat showed he remains undeterred by the pressure of captaincy. His on-field decisions, however, leave much to be desired. For a majority of the final session of Day 5 when England were chasing a 371-run target, KL Rahul could be seen adjusting the field, seemingly implying that Gill had been turning to senior players in the side to assist him in the role.

Leeds [UK], June 28 (ANI): Following the loss against England in the first Test of the five-match series at Headingley, India's right-arm seamer Prasidh Krishna shared his thoughts on newly appointed Test skipper Shubman Gill where he said the young middle-order batter had a 'very good atmosphere' in the dressing room. Speaking on Gill's captaincy and leadership skills at the press-conference, Krishna said, 'I think he did a pretty good job. All of us saw how he rotated the bowlers, made sure everybody had enough breaks, brought in people at the right kind of spells, he saw opportunities and brought in the right kind of bowlers. All of that was great and knowing him, he set a very good atmosphere around. He's been speaking to all of us, we always go in with a plan and the communication is happening there.' Gill joined the elite list of Indians, which includes Sunil Gavaskar, Virat Kohli, Vijay Hazare and Dilip Vengsarkar to score 100 on Test captaincy debut. He achieved this feat in his outing against England on Day 1 of the first test of the five-test match series on Friday at Leeds Headingley. This is also the start of the 2025-27 World Test Championship (WTC) cycle for both also completed 2000 runs in test cricket, the batter took 60 innings to achieve this feat. Both Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli completed 2000 test runs in their first match as captain. Gill is the 23rd player to score a century in a debut innings as captain and the fourth youngest among those behind Herbie Taylor, Alastair Cook, and Steven brought up his 100 in 140 deliveries in an innings peppered with 14 boundaries as he kept India steady. This was his sixth century in test, and he also has seven fifties to his name. Alongside Gill, Indian batter Yashasvi Jaiswal also scored a brilliant century. He was dismissed by England skipper Ben Stokes right after Tea on Day 1 for 101 runs; his innings included 16 fours and a six. Further, the pacer spoke about the five-wicket loss which his team faced in the first test against the Three Lions at the Leeds, Headingley. 'The dressing room is still nice and happy and very, very motivated. Like I said, we came here knowing what this opportunity meant for all of us and even in the game today, we might have looked quiet at some stages but I think we still had a plan, we wanted to do something and we went about doing it and we got two wickets in a cluster twice so that still kept the motivation going and then, you know as a bowling unit when something is happening, we still ended up taking the new ball. They needed about 20 runs with the same hope of something is going to happen. So we are still there believing we made sure till the last run is scored, we are still out there and making sure they work hard for it,' the 29-year-old player added.
