Springbok Player Ratings: Big Lood puts on a big show, Tshituka shines

The Springbok team showed up and showed out in Cape Town on Saturday as they outscored the Barbarians eight tries to one in their exhibition match to retain the Qatar Cup. There's no stopping the Springbok juggernaut, at least not for Barbarians, who plunged to a hefty defeat against the world champions. Here we dish out some key player ratings: Lood de Jager 9/10 Three super touches and carries leading up to the opening try scored by Malcolm Marx. Two crucial lineout steals close to the half-hour mark when the Barbarians were looking for a way into the contest. He capped off his fine return to international rugby after a two-year hiatus with a try in the second half. Vincent Tshituka 9/10 Used at the lineout as both a jumper and lifter in this clash, the debutant did his primary job to perfection. But his work in the loose and in openplay were superb too. Tshituka rounded of his first (of many) Bok game with two well-deserved tries. Kurt-Lee Arendse 8/10 In his first game back on South African soil, the speedster reminded the everyone just why he is coach Rassie Erasmus' first-choice winger. The dynamic runner breached the BaaBaas' defence at will, and while some of his Aphelele Fassi 8/10 With this performance, he confirmed that he is not conceding the Springbok No 15 jersey anytime soon. Fassi was rock solid at the back in defence and served as one of South Africa's greatest creative sources on attack. Morne van den Berg 7/10 As the race for a spot in the Springbok match-day squads for the upcoming Test series heats up, Van den Berg just edged ahead of the chasing pack at scrumhalf. He marshalled the game excellently and played a pivotal role in cover defence. Honourable mentions: Cheslin Kolbe and Asenathi Ntlabakanye Kolbe was named the official Man of the Match for his hot-stepping display in front of a crowd that went ballistic every time he touched the ball. Meanwhile, Ntlabakanye not only held his own against the well-accomplished Cian Healy, he completely outplayed the Irish legend. WHO DO YOU THINK WAS THE BEST SPRINGBOK ON THE FIELD TODAY? WI vs AUS: Travis Head creates World Test Championship record, becomes first player to ...

Australia's Travis Head (AP Photo/Ricardo Mazalan) Travis Head made history by becoming the first player to win 10 Man of the Match awards in the World Test Championship after his twin fifties helped Australia defeat West Indies by 159 runs in the first Test of their three-match series. Head scored 59 in the first innings and 61 in the second innings on a challenging pitch where both teams struggled to score runs. Australia were bowled out for 180 in their first innings before restricting West Indies to 190. The hosts then posted 310 in their second innings before dismissing West Indies for 141 to secure the victory and take a 1-0 lead in the series. Go Beyond The Boundary with our YouTube channel. His first innings half-century helped Australia reach a fighting total, while his second innings contribution helped the team recover from a precarious position of 61-4. The Australian middle order provided vital support after Head's dismissal. Beau Webster scored 63 and Alex Carey made 65 to help Australia build a match-winning lead. India Sweat it out at the Nets in Birmingham Ahead of the 2nd Test vs England Head's achievement of 10 Man of the Match awards in the World Test Championship puts him well ahead of his closest competitors. Ben Stokes and Joe Root have won five awards each, while Harry Brook has four to his name. The left-handed batter has been a consistent performer in the World Test Championship. He is Australia's fourth-highest run-scorer in the competition with 3199 runs in 50 games, including eight centuries and 15 fifties, behind Steve Smith , Marnus Labuschagne, and Usman Khawaja. Head also reached another milestone by becoming the fourth batter to hit 400 fours in the World Test Championship. He achieved this feat in 83 innings, joining an elite group including Joe Root (576 fours in 119 innings), Marnus Labuschagne (476 fours in 96 innings), and Steve Smith (443 fours in 91 innings). Quiz: Who's that IPL player? "I would have liked to score a bit more, missed out on a few runs. The communication was important, the conditions were tricky and we did exceptionally well to get to 300 on that surface. I was more positive on Day 1 when the game was up for the taking, last night I was desperate to end the day unbeaten, momentum was the key over here, we wanted to build a partnership, we were slow, but it worked out well (on his stand with Beau Webster)," Head said at the post-match presentation. Head praised his batting partner Webster's contribution: "He has played a great deal of FC cricket, has got experience in all conditions and situations. You tend to do well then and he took the responsibility." The Australian batter expressed his disappointment about his performance in the World Test Championship final but was pleased to contribute to the team's victory against West Indies. "I try to contribute every time I go out there, was disappointed at not making runs at Lords (in the WTC final) despite my good form, was nice to get runs and contribute to the team victory here," Head added. Game On Season 1 continues with Mirabai Chanu's inspiring story. Watch Episode 2 here.

‘X&Y' movie review: Satya Prakash's human drama is an audacious attempt

In films with audacious subjects, a viewer needs to believe in the world the filmmaker is trying to create. If you fixate on the logic behind it, you cannot see what the director is trying to say. What are the chances of the soul of an unborn child getting into the body of a beggar (essayed by Atharva Prakash), who then decides to find his parents? Nil, right? Well, that's the one-liner of Satya Prakash's latest film, X&Y. A little before, Satya Prakash introduces the protagonist Kreede (Satya himself), a do-gooder who runs an auto ambulance. Satya Prakash, who mostly preferred being behind the camera as a director, is quite fun to watch in his maiden lead role. He portrays a free-spirited, kind-hearted man who doesn't mind a self-deprecating joke when a matchmaker insults his short stature by comparing it with Amitabh Bachchan. X&Y (Kannada) Direction: D Satya Prakash Cast: D Satya Prakash, Brinda Acharya, Atharva Prakash, Sunder Veena Runtime: 108 minutes Storyline: An eager unborn soul, desperate to experience life, pleads with the Creator to send him to Earth. He must find his future parents and ensure their union Humour keeps the first half alive. Kreede helps the needy reach the hospital on time, and in one scene, he manages to make a terminally-ill woman smile. Frustrated with her fate, she shouts at Satya to take her to a graveyard, only for him to demand an exorbitant price in a lighter vein, parodying the Bengaluru auto drivers. The film has an interesting visual grammar. For instance, the sequence that introduces us to the film's female lead, Kripa (Brinda Acharya). Her wedding jewelry is replaced by chains and dumbbells, signifying the mental load of getting married against your wishes. For the most part, the film is delightfully light on its feet, with the vibrant visuals of a couple of songs enhancing the tone. The unborn child, Jeeva, almost resembling a robot with feelings (like Chitti in Enthiran), decides that Kripa and Kreede will be his parents. Now, he needs to ensure they fall in love and end up together. Satya Prakash the filmmaker stumbles when he puts his film in this direction. We feel like watching two different movies, as the spotlight shifts from Kreede to Kripa, who develops a maternal bond with the innocent Jeeva. During an argument, Kreede says he demanded respect from his father and blames Kripa for not speaking her mind with her mother. The scene reveals Satya's intentions with the film. Satya Prakash takes a straightforward route to address these dynamics. From a visually appealing movie, X&Y becomes talky and preachy, as characters come and go just so that the director can stress his point. ALSO READ:D Sathya Prakash talks about his latest film 'Man of the Match' Satya Prakash has always dealt with themes that reflect society. Be it Rama Rama Re or Ondalla Eradalla, he portrayed relatable aspects of life, albeit in a subtle manner, when compared to the elementary narration of X&Y. That said, there are very few filmmakers like him, those who don't get bogged down by the demands of the market and believe in carving their own, unique filmography. X&Y is currently running in theatres
