Rangers transfer rumours collide as Luuk de Jong shares trait with Ibrox linked star as PSV hero arrives at D-Day

De Jong is currently out of contract with the Eredivisie champions
Rangers have been told about the leadership credentials Luuk de Jong could bring to Ibrox - with the Dutchman drawing comparisons to another veteran who has also been mooted as a Light Blues target.
Captain De Jong is out of contract with PSV Eindhoven after banging in 14 league goals last season to help the Eredivisie giants secure a second championship in succession.

The 34-year-old has been back training with the club until his future is resolved but talk over a potential move to Govan has been directly addressed by his manager Peter Bosz.

And while the rumours roll on, fans have been given an insight into the kind of character the former Newcastle and Barcelona striker is on the pitch.
Top-flight referee Bas Nijhuis - who has been a FIFA listed whistler since 2007 - has also compared De Jong's demeanour to Jordan Henderson, with the ex Liverpool skipper also weighing up his options after leaving PSV's rivals Ajax.
Asked about Henderson on Dutch television show De Oranjezomer on Wednesday, he said: "Those types of players create a bit of a buzz on the pitch. He shouts at you a lot from a distance. He's quite active and coaches a lot.
"I think he's a completely different type of captain than Luuk de Jong.
"He's much calmer and calls out sometimes. That's a completely different type. But I do like players who are a bit different."
One of the biggest transfer sagas in recent memory drew to a close last week with Hearts talisman Lawrence Shankland finally putting pen to paper on a new deal at Tynecastle.

Shankland was previously on Rangers' radar and one former Scotland international has given his thoughts on why Russell Martin and Kevin Thelwell didn't move heaven and earth to try and snap up the 2023/24 Premiership Golden Boot winner.
Ex Liverpool and Everton midfielder Don Hutchison told BestBettingSites.com: "I really like him. I think he's a good player.

"I just think it depends on what Russell Martin wants, so he might not have wanted to push hard for him. Maybe he was always interested in staying with Hearts if he could.
"Martin will have in his mind a certain type of player that he wants to work with, a certain type of style. But Shankland has always looked like a good player to me.
"I quite like the way he plays. I quite like the way he wears his heart on his sleeve, I think. I think he's an industrious player. It's making that step up.
"We can't be sure that Martin saw in Shankland the kind of player he thought he needed to get a balanced side at Ibrox."

Rangers transfer news as Luuk De Jong contingency plan 'lined-up' and Abu Kamara update emerges

De Jong is available on a free transfer after his contract with the Eredivisie champions expired PSV Eindhoven have lined up a replacement for Luuk De Jong should the Rangers -linked striker decide to move on. The former Barcelona and Netherlands frontman is out of contract with the Eredivisie champions and while he has been ticking over with them during pre-season, is free to talk to other clubs. ‌ De Jong, 34, has been touted as a potential target for Gers, as new boss Russell Martin continues to reshape his squad for the coming season, having made five summer signings already. ‌ The rangey striker bagged 14 league goals to skipper PSV to the title last season but Dutch outlet Eindhovens Dagblad now claim that the club are lining up a contingency plan in the event that he does not renew his contract. They report that Borussia Monchengladbach's French forward Alassane Plea is on PSV's radar. The 32-year-old - who scored 11 Bundesliga goals last season - is into the final year of his contract in Germany and could be available on a cut-price deal. Another player who is said to be in the sights of Ibrox sporting director Kevin Thelwell is Hull wide-man Abu Kamara. The Tigers have been hit by a transfer embargo from the English Football League over their financial irregularities and may look to offload players this summer to balance the books. But the Daily Mail report that no immediate decision has been made on the future of England U20 international Kamara, who is reportedly more than happy to stay at the MKM Stadium for another year. ‌ Meanwhile, Sheffield Wednesday star Djeidi Gassama's pending £2.5million transfer to Rangers has left one former English Premier League star baffled. The ex Paris-Saint-Germain youngster has been a big hit with fans at Hillsborough in his two seasons with the EFL Championship club, winning the Owls' Player of the Season award in May. And former Aston Villa midfielder Lee Hendrie reckons Rangers have a real 'steal' on their hands when the winger puts pen to paper at Ibrox. ‌ Speaking to Football League World, Hendrie said: "At Sheffield Wednesday, they've agreed a £2.5 million deal with Rangers for Gassama. "With the situation they're in at the moment and the way that things are going, it feels like it's crumbling. "When you're selling players for £2.5 million these days, it's a real steal, particularly with players that have got potential and that's what he (Gassama) has. ‌ 'You'd rather keep hold of him and try and get the best out of him next season, particularly if there is to be this takeover that can take the club forward and bring fresh faces in that might just give them that extra boost, and then you look at it next season. "But £2.5m is nothing these days in the transfer window." ‌ You can get all the news you need on our dedicated Rangers and Celtic pages, and sign up to our newsletters to make sure you never miss a beat throughout the season.
