1,319 Recruits First Batch To Enjoy New Salary Scheme Under SSPA
Army Chief General Tan Sri Muhammad Hafizuddeain Jantan said the recruits would receive a starting salary ranging from RM1,710 to RM1,930, depending on their academic qualifications, compared to RM1,610 during their training period, which began on Dec 1.
'Previously, (under the Malaysian Remuneration System), their pay was RM1,459. This batch is the first to enjoy the new rates, where diploma holders will earn more than those with Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM).
'I hope this will encourage more participation from the community, especially diploma holders, to join the army,' he told reporters after the Passing Out Parade for Young Male Soldiers Series 202/2024 here.
For this intake, Sarawak recorded the highest number of recruits with 243 individuals. By ethnicity, Malays formed the majority with 1,007 individuals, followed by Bumiputera from Sabah and Sarawak (364), Chinese (five), Indians (18) and Orang Asli (four).
Muhammad Hafizuddeain said the army continues to carry out various efforts to boost participation from other ethnic groups, including organising exhibitions and career talks at non-Malay stream schools and engaging Territorial Army Committee members in every state to promote participation among non-Malays.
He noted that economic factors may be the main reason for the lack of interest among youths in joining the armed forces, and expressed hope that the implementation of the SSPA would help attract more of them, particularly from non-Malay backgrounds.
'We do not face many issues in Sabah. What we need is more participation from Peninsular Malaysia. I hope the National Service Training Programme (PLKN) will help encourage more youths to consider the armed forces as a career path,' he said.
On a separate matter, Muhammad Hafizuddeain said the army would not compromise with any personnel who tarnish the image of the service.

The issue of digital transformation continued with a question from V. Sivakumar (PH-Batu Gajah) to the Digital Minister who wanted to know the country's preparedness for the artificial intelligence (AI) revolution including technology transfer strategies, local talent development, as well as the level of AI integration in governance and key economic sectors. Datuk Dr Ahmad Marzuk Shaary (PN-Pengkalan Chepa) also asked the Prime Minister regarding the justification for the increase in the 2025 hajj cost, the status of Tabung Haji investments and the amount of unused Malaysian hajj quota for the years 2020 to 2025. After the question and answer session, the sitting will continue with the tabling of the second reading of several bills including the Consumer Credit Act 2025 and the Solid Waste Management and Public Cleansing (Amendment) Bill 2025. Members of Parliament are also expected to focus on the motion to debate the Annual Report and Financial Statements of the Human Rights Commission of Malaysia (Suhakam) 2023 (Statute Paper 80 of 2025). ‘Unity fuels govt strength'

The Prime Minister acknowledged that while each party within the government may hold different beliefs and stances, their unity and cooperation remain exemplary. Rahmah help ease rakyat's cost of living

Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali said the initiative continues to receive strong public support, particularly with its expansion to all regions nationwide, including suburban and rural areas. He said that apart from providing immediate relief, the programme also serves as a valuable platform for the ministry to engage directly with communities to obtain feedback, including suggestions for improvements and additional stock preferences. 'The community has acknowledged that this programme truly reaches the grassroots and fulfils their daily needs. 'As we know, the allocation for the Rahmah Sales Programme has also been increased. So we hope that the 2026 Budget will further expand the programme's reach so that more people can benefit from it,' he told Bernama.
