2 Chhattisgarh sisters arrested for cheating in sub-engineer recruitment exam: Police
Electronic devices including a hidden camera, miniature earbuds and a walkie-talkie set that were used to transmit images of the question paper and receive answers, have been seized from the two sisters identified by the police as Annu Surya, who had an engineering degree from the state's Korea district, and her sister Anuradha Surya.
The case came to light after members of the Congress's students wing, National Students' Union of India (NSUI) received a tip about a woman, later identified as Anuradha, using the electronic devices under suspicious circumstances in an autorickshaw parked near an examination centre.
The exam was being conducted by the Chhattisgarh Vyavsayik Pariksha Mandal (CG VYAPAM) for recruitment to Sub-Engineer (Civil, Electrical, and Mechanical) posts under the Public Works Department.
Police said seven electronic devices, including a secret camera hidden in Annu's clothing, a microphone, a Bluetooth device, walkie-talkies, a tablet, and mobile phones, were seized from the two sisters.
According to the police, Annu used the hidden camera to send out images of the question paper. Her sister searched online for the answers to the questions and relayed the answer via a walkie-talkie connected to a micro-earpiece worn by Annu.
Both sisters were arrested under sections 318(2) (cheating), 112(2) (organised crime), and 61(2) (criminal conspiracy) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, as well as relevant sections of the Information Technology Act and the Chhattisgarh Examination Act.
Police said Annu Surya, a native of Jashpur, was an engineering graduate from Korea and currently works as a schoolteacher. Her sister Anuradha is a student based in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
Following the incident, Congress and National Students Union of India (NSUI ) workers staged a protest, alleging a larger conspiracy behind the case.

Taxi driver turns whistleblower, foils high-tech plan of 2 girls to cheat in PWD exam; both held
Raipur: In Chhattisgarh's Bilaspur district, two sisters, with a dozen gadgets, were arrested after they almost pulled off a plan to cheat during the PWD sub-engineer recruitment exam on Sunday in the state. A girl sat for the exam while her sister fed her answers from a taxi right outside the exam hall. The taxi driver later turned whistleblower as he informed of the suspicious activities to members of NSUI , a student wing of the Congress party. The young woman had earlier walked into the exam hall with a hidden camera and a micro earpiece tucked inside her earring. Her sister, outside in the auto-rickshaw, was equipped with a tablet, walkie-talkie, and bluetooth devices, feeding her answers live as the test progressed. The incident took place at exam centre number 1309 of Government Boys Higher Secondary School in Sarkanda region of Bilaspur, during the recruitment exam conducted by the Chhattisgarh Professional Examination Board for Sub-Engineer (Civil, Electrical, Mechanical) posts. Over 14,000 candidates appeared across the state for 113 advertised vacancies. The accused, identified as a 21-year-old girl from Jashpur district, was aided in her attempt to cheat by her 19-year-old sister, who scanned answers on a tablet, communicated via walkie-talkie, and relayed solutions back to her sister mid-exam. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Cách giao dịch ETH/USD mà không cần nắm giữ Ether IC Markets Tìm hiểu thêm Undo Speaking to TOI, Bilaspur SP Rajnesh Singh said, "The sisters have been arrested and sent on police remand. The duo came from Jashpur and hired a taxi from Bilaspur railway station to the exam centre. But the driver grew suspicious when one of the girls began setting up a walkie-talkie and other gadgets inside the car, and he refused to cooperate." The driver alerted NSUI leader Vikas Singh Thakur, who promptly arrived with volunteers. Spotting the suspicious activity near the centre, Vikas confronted the girl and shot a video of the incident. His team discovered a shocking collection of tech: walkie-talkies, tablets, bluetooth devices, even a mini wireless transmitter. The footage went viral on social media. Meanwhile, inside the exam centre, invigilators were tipped off by NSUI activists. A team frisked the 21-year-old and found the spy camera and earpiece. Police official said that she had completed nearly 100 questions just 15 minutes before the exam ended, raising serious concerns over the scale and success of her cheating attempt. SP said that preliminary investigation revealed the devices were purchased online, and a case under IT Act, fraud, and criminal conspiracy has been registered against the girls. Police are also probing the role of security at the centres. In a statement issued by state govt public relations team, the state has adopted a 'zero tolerance' policy towards cheating and have termed this a case of 'organised electronic malpractice.' The cheating scandal also triggered political uproar as NSUI leaders gathered at the centre, demanding an independent probe into not just this incident but other centres across the state. NSUI state president Neeraj Pandey accused the administration of negligence and alleged the involvement of a larger network, saying, "This cannot happen without system-level loopholes or political shelter."

"State govt has failed to provide security to public": Bihar Congress chief Rajesh Kumar
New Delhi [India], July 14 (ANI): Bihar Congress President Rajesh Kumar on Monday heavily criticiSed the NDA-led Bihar government over the previaling law and order situation in the state. The Bihar Congress President accused the government of 'failing to provide security to the public.' Speaking to ANI, he said, 'Earlier, Uttar Pradesh used to top the list of criminal incidents at national level, while Bihar was second on the list. But in today times, there has been surge in criminal incidents in Bihar, making it first in the list. These criminal incidents have been occurring on different segments of people, including businessmen, caste-based crimes... The state government has failed to provide security to the public...' Earlier today, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav alleged that the Bihar government is unable to control law and order, with criminals becoming more brazen and citizens feeling unsafe. Addressing reporters in Patna, he questioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi's silence on the issue, asking if he will ever express concern or just deliver speeches. Yadav urged PM Modi to 'leave his teleprompter and speak his mind' about the situation in Bihar, suggesting that the Prime Minister is more focused on scripted speeches than addressing the state's real issues. The Bihar LoP described Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar as being in an 'unconscious state' and unable to handle Bihar's administration, with the Prime Minister allegedly controlling the state remotely. He accused the Chief Minister of failing to take action against criminals, allowing them to thrive in the state, claiming that the government is protecting criminals, emboldening them to commit crimes, and that the situation in Bihar is 'terrifying.' 'Narendra Modi should leave his teleprompter and speak his mind. The situation in Bihar is terrifying... Why is PM Narendra Modi silent? Will he ever express his concern and grief, or just give speeches?... If he gets votes from here, is it his responsibility to provide security here or not? The Chief Minister is in an unconscious state. He is not able to handle Bihar. The Prime Minister is handling it through a remote control. Criminals have become 'samratth' in Bihar, they have won,' said the RJD leader. He pointed out that in the past six months, nine prominent businessmen have been murdered in Bihar, highlighting the state's failure to maintain law and order. Gopal Khemka, a businessman and a BJP leader from Bihar, was shot dead outside his home in Patna earlier this month. He had previously requested police protection for his family. Days after Khemka was shot dead, another man was killed in Patna's Ram Krishna Nagar area after being shot by an unidentified assailant. The victim, Vikram Jha, succumbed to his injuries while being taken to the hospital. According to police, Jha was shot by a person who arrived on a motorcycle and opened fire. A murder case has been registered, and an investigation is underway. Jha, originally from Darbhanga district, had been living in Patna for a year and ran a grocery store. He lived with his family on the first floor of the same building. The reaction comes ahead of the Bihar Assembly elections which are expected to be held later this year in October or November; however, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has not announced an official date. While the NDA, consisting of the BJP, JD(U), and LJP, will once again be looking to continue their stint in Bihar, the INDIA bloc, consisting of the RJD, Congress, and left parties, will be looking to unseat Nitish Kumar. In the current Bihar Assembly of 243 members, the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) consists of 131 with the BJP having 80 MLAs, JD(U)-45, HAM(S)-4, with the support of 2 Independent Candidates. The Opposition's INDIA Bloc has a strength of 111 members with RJD leading with 77 MLAs, Congress-19, CPI(ML)-11, CPI(M)-2 and CPI-2. (ANI)

Attending virtual court proceedings from toilet costs Gujarat man ₹1 lakh. Here's what happened
The Gujarat High Court on Monday imposed a fine of ₹ 1 lakh on a man who attended virtual proceedings from a toilet seat while relieving himself on live video streaming, reported Bar and Bench. The court also said it is considering sending the person concerned, named Samad Abdul Rehman Shah, to jail as his conduct was contumacious. "The contemnor has admitted about his conduct during the live-streaming proceedings. Thus, at this stage, we direct the contemnor to deposit ₹ 1 lakh before the registry of this court before the next date of hearing," said a Division Bench of Justices AS Supehia and RT Vachhani. The High Court also noted that despite its order, the HC Registrar (Information & Technology) has not filed a reply and no steps have been suggested about how such incidents can be stopped. The counsel appearing for the Registrar told the Division Bench that he would assist the court on the next hearing date. The case has been listed for the next hearing on July 22. In June, a video went viral on social media showing Samad attending Gujarat High Court's virtual proceedings while seated on a toilet and apparently relieving himself. The incident took place on June 20 before the bench of Justice Nirzar S. Desai. Initially in the video, a closeup of the man featured, showing Samad wearing a Bluetooth earphone. Subsequently, he was seen keeping his phone at a distance, revealing that he was seated on a toilet. The man was appearing as a respondent in a case seeking quashing of a first information report (FIR). He was the complainant in the criminal case, Bar and Bench report said citing the court records.
