Nithya Menen opens up heartbreak and marriage ahead of ‘Thalaivan Thalaivii'

The Hindu24-07-2025
Actor Nithya Menen, who is currently promoting her upcoming film Thalaivan Thalaivii, has spoken about how her understanding of relationships and marriage has changed over the years.
Speaking on The Ramya Show, Menen said that her priorities have shifted with time. 'When I was younger, it was very important for me to find a soulmate,' she said. 'But over the years, I've realised it's not necessary. Family and society make you feel like marriage is inevitable, but that's not the case.'
She added that not being married does not leave her with any regret. 'If it happens, that's fine. If it doesn't, that's also fine. I don't feel any grief about it,' she said, noting that public figures like Ratan Tata also chose not to marry and led fulfilling lives.
In another interview with SS Music, Menen discussed her personal experiences with relationships, saying they often resulted in disappointment. 'Every single time, I've been heartbroken,' she said. 'That's why I'm not in a relationship right now. It taught me a lot about people's intentions.'
She explained that these experiences have given her a sense of clarity. 'I've let go of the idea that love or marriage has to happen a certain way. It's freed me up to live life differently,' she said.
Menen will next be seen in Thalaivan Thalaivii, directed by Pandiraj and produced by Sathya Jyothi Films. The film features her alongside Vijay Sethupathi, with both actors playing a married couple. The cast also includes Yogi Babu, Saravanan, and Semban Vinod Jose.
Thalaivan Thalaivii is scheduled to release in theatres on July 25.

'Let the woman enjoy her few minutes of fame': Vijay Sethupathi refutes sexual harassment claims

The National film award winning Tamil actor Vijay Sethupathi on Thursday chose to break his silence over a sexual exploitation allegation made against him recently by a X user by calling the accusations "filthy." In a conversation with Deccan Chronicle, the actor said he has filed a complaint with the cyber crime cell. He insisted that the person making the accusations is a "jealous element" trying to damage his reputation ahead of the release of his new film Thalaivan Thalaivii. The 47-year-old star said that anyone who knows him even remotely will laugh at this. "This kind of filthy accusation can't upset me," he insisted even as he said that his family and close friends are upset. But he had told them that let it slide. This woman is obviously doing it to be noticed. She has her few minutes of fame, let her enjoy it.'' The user named Ramya Mohan has accused the actor of sexually exploiting an unnamed girl. Vijay finds the timing of the accusation suspicious. 'My new film is doing well. Probably, some jealous elements think that by tarnishing me they can damage my film. It doesn't work that way. In today's day and age anyone can say anything about anybody. There are no filters. All you need is an account on social media and you can write what you like without fear of repercussion,' he notes.

National Film Awards 2025 Live Updates: Jury submits list of awardees to Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw

National Film Awards 2025 Live Updates: The winners of the 71st National Film Awards were announced at the National Media Centre in New Delhi on Friday. For these awards, films that received their certification from CBFC (Central Board of Film Certification) between January 1, 2023 and December 31, 2023, were eligible. 2023 was one of the more successful years for Indian cinema in the recent past, but as is well known that a film's commercial success has nothing to do with its probability of winning a National Film Award. 2023 saw the release of popular Hindi films like Pathaan, Animal, 12th Fail, OMG 2, Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, The Kerala Story, Adipurush. In Telugu cinema, films like Sita Ramam, Month of Madhu, Balagam, Dasara among others. In Tamil cinema, films like Jailer and Leo proved to be massive blockbusters. Malayalam films like Nanpakal Nerathu Mayakkam, 2018 Everyone is a Hero, Iratta, Kaathal – The Core, Adrishya Jalakangal also released in 2023. In 2024, when the 70th National Film Awards were announced, Rishab Shetty won the Best Actor award for Kantara. The Best Actress honour was shared by Nithya Menen for Thiruchitrambalam and Manasi Parekh for The Kutch Express. The Best Director honour went to Sooraj Barjatya for his film, Uunchai, and Best Feature Film was won by the Malayalam film Aattam. Mani Ratnam's Ponniyin Selvan I won four awards across various categories making it the biggest winner of the year. First handed out in 1954, National Film Awards were previously known as State Awards. In those years, only the best films in different regional languages were recognised and awarded. The awards for actors and technicians working on the films were first given in 1967. Nargis was the first actor to win Best Actress for her performance in Raat Aur Din. Uttam Kumar won the Best Actor award for Antony Firingee and Chiriyakhana in the same year.
