I Fought the Law is the heartbreaking Sheridan Smith drama based on a true story
Starring BAFTA-winning actor Sheridan Smith in the leading role, it follows the harrowing story of Ann Ming, a grieving mother who campaigned to change the Double Jeopardy Law after her daughter was murdered.
The drama retells Ming's long fight for justice — a 15-year battle that finally led to permanent change in the criminal system — and some closure for her family.
Ahead of its release date, let's take a deeper dive into I Fought the Law, from the full plot, the cast, and when viewers can expect it to land on their screens.
Currently, there is no release date for the drama. However, we do know it's coming to ITV1 and ITVX later this year.
There is a trailer, however, which shows Smith in character as Ming, along with a taste of what's to come.
The four-part limited series explores the real-life events of Ann Ming and her family, after her daughter, Julie, was murdered in 1989. After disappearing following a late-night shift at a pizza restaurant in Cleveland, Ming is convinced that her daughter has been killed.
80 days later, Ming tragically discovers Julie's body concealed behind the bath panel in her daughter's home. This is despite police forensics teams failing to find Julie after extensive searches of the property.
During the episodes — which are also based on Ming's 2008 book, For the Love of Julie — the grieving mother works tirelessly to change the 800-year-old Double Jeopardy Law.
After 15 years of campaigning, Ming finally manages to overturn the law: Having been acquitted following two mistrials, Julie's murderer was previously allowed to walk free. The Double Jeopardy Law meant he couldn't be tried again for the same crime.
However, in 2006, the man responsible for killing Julie was finally sentenced to life in prison.
Sheridan Smith, who many will recognise from Mrs Biggs, Cilla, and Gavin & Stacey, leads the cast.
Below is a full list of cast members and the roles they play:
While the show has yet to be released, it will be available to watch on ITV1 and ITVX

Tracee Ellis Ross Rejected Oprah Winfrey Calling Her The "Poster Child For Singledom": "I Don't Want To Be That"
Tracee Ellis Ross is reflecting on Oprah's comments about her ongoing single status. The moment came in an episode of Tracee's new series, Solo Traveling With Tracee Ellis Ross, which finds the Emmy-winning actor exploring the joys of the world as a single and childless woman. Reflecting on the freedom of solo travel, Tracee said, "So much of what traveling is about, is for me, not waiting for something in order to walk towards my life, in order to be in my life, in order to experience my life. I think that was why I took my first trip solo. And I know that in some ways — I mean, Oprah said it. She said that I'm the poster child for singledom. I don't want to be that." Instead, Tracee prefers to reframe the conversation as someone living on their own terms and not waiting for traditional things to add value and meaning to their life. "I want to be the poster child for being an inhabitant in your own skin," Tracee said. "For living in your own skin." Although some might see being single and childless at an older age as a negative, Tracee, 52, says it has afforded her a freedom and an experience that she might not have otherwise had. "Yes, I am a single Black woman who does not have children, but not having a relationship — long, long relationships — not having children has allowed me to explore things of my own humanity," she reflected. "It has deposited me here at 52 in an extraordinary experience that is filled with joy, loneliness, grief, exuberance, delight, like, literally all of it. And I feel available to it." While Tracee didn't specify when Oprah's comments occurred, they appear to be from a 2020 interview on her Your Live in Focus series, where Oprah told Tracee how many single women view her as "an example of what being an unmarried woman could and should look like." When asked if she ever imagined playing that role, Tracee laughed, "No. I, like many of us, was taught to grow up dreaming of my wedding, not of my life." She added, "I spent many years dreaming of my wedding, and also, waiting to be chosen. Well, here's the thing. I'm the chooser. And I can choose to get married if I want to, but in the meantime, I am choicefully single, happily, gloriously single." She repeated that message in a 2021 interview with Harper's Bazaar: "People are like, 'You're the poster child for being single.' And I was like, 'Great.' But what I would prefer is that I'm the poster child for living my life on my terms. And that there's a version of that for everyone. I don't live my life for other people. I just totally live it for me." You can (and should!) watch Solo Traveling With Tracee Ellis Ross now on Roku. Trust me when I say — it's great. Let me know what you think of her reflections in the comments below, too.

Beyoncé surprises fans with Destiny's Child reunion at final Cowboy Carter show
Beyoncé brought the house down Saturday night at the final show of her Cowboy Carter tour in Las Vegas, surprising fans with a Destiny's Child reunion. The Grammy-winning artist closed out her tour Saturday night with the trio performing together for the first time in seven years. Kelly Rowland, Michelle Williams and Beyoncé stepped out in matching gold ensembles, thrilling the crowd with hits like "Lose My Breath," "Bootylicious," and Beyoncé's own song, "Energy." The chart-topping group went their separate ways in 2006 to pursue solo careers but have reunited a few times since, including during Beyoncé's halftime performance at the 2013 Super Bowl and at her 2018 Coachella headlining set, the latter of which was the most recent public performance together. After the show, Beyoncé shared photos of the reunion on Instagram, with fans flooding the comments to express their excitement and disbelief about the rare occasion. Following the Destiny's Child performance, Beyoncé's daughter, 13-year-old Blue Ivy, joined her mother onstage. Blue has been a regular dancer throughout the tour, making her own mark on the show. The Vegas show also featured several guest performances, with Beyoncé bringing out her husband Jay-Z and country singer Shaboozey for brief cameos. The Cowboy Carter tour, in support of Beyoncé's eighth studio album of the same name, kicked off in April at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles. The Las Vegas performance was the 32nd and final stop on the tour, which included a memorable show in Beyoncé's hometown of Houston, Texas, last month.

Beyoncé surprises fans with Destiny's Child reunion to cap off Cowboy Carter tour
Beyoncé brought the curtain down on her 'Cowboy Carter' tour with a surprise Destiny's Child reunion at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas on Saturday. The stunned crowd roared when Beyoncé emerged on stage with Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams announcing, 'Destiny's Child b—!' before the trio delivered a medley of their hits including the 2001 anthem 'Bootylicious' and 2004 hit 'Lose My Breath.' They also performed a version of Beyoncé's 2022 'Energy,' along with the song's viral 'mute challenge.' It was the first time the Grammy-winning singer had performed onstage with her former bandmates Rowland and Williams since 2018, when she played Coachella. The reunion left fans ecstatic, describing the moment as 'iconic' and 'legendary.' 'Y'all will never understand how iconic this is considering they're one of the most successful girl groups of all time,' wrote one on X. It also prompted some to speculate whether a more sustained Destiny's Child recoupling might be in the future. 'If this is a sign that destiny's child will go on tour they can 3x the rent, just make it happen,' wondered another fan on X. The reunion was an electric moment in a show full of charged moments. Shaboozey, Beyoncé's 'Cowboy Carter' collaborator, also joined her to perform their hit 'Sweet Honey Buckiin'.' Jay-Z, who made a number of appearances with his wife during her nine-city, all-stadium tour, was in Las Vegas too, where they belted out their 2003 hit 'Crazy in Love,' ending the song with a kiss. The star wattage was high off-stage as well. 'Grand opening, grand closing! Here in Las Vegas with the cowboy crew to watch Beyoncé close out her historic Cowboy Carter tour!!' shared Gayle King on Instagram with photos alongside Oprah Winfrey, Tyler Perry, Kris Jenner and Khloe Kardashian. Also spotted in the crowd were actress Kerry Washington, Maya Rudolph and director Paul Thomas Anderson.
