Former Manchester United defender Nemanja Vidic has opened up on his coaching ambitions and the possibility of managing the Red Devils in the future
Nemanja Vidic has expressed his ambition to take the helm at Manchester United someday.
Signed by Sir Alex Ferguson back in December 2005 for £7million, Vidic turned out to be a bargain as he rose to prominence as one of the top defenders in the Premier League.

During his trophy-laden stint in Manchester, Vidic celebrated winning 15 major honours, among them five Premier League crowns, before Louis van Gaal showed him the door following a dip in performance and injury woes.

The Serbian ace hung up his boots after an 18-month spell with Inter Milan, with persistent injuries calling time on his playing days.
Although Vidic has previously discussed delving into coaching, his main focus currently is his family, especially with three young kids at home.
Nevertheless, Vidic admits to harbouring managerial dreams at the hallowed Old Trafford ground.
"If I was to manage or coach anyone, it would have to be Manchester United," he disclosed on The Overlap. "I like things when they're difficult and to change something from difficult to good, this is something I like to do."
Considering his immediate future, Vidic said: "I'm open an opportunity to be a coach, or to work in football as a Sporting Director, or even the Serbian President of the FA – that was the plan a few years ago – it didn't happen but maybe it could happen in the future."

Vidic went on to open up about his ventures off the pitch and how his drive for excellence transcends into business.
He said: "Obviously, what I'm doing outside [of football], business wise, creating a company which is going to be not just successful but is going to be who I am as well.
"Everything I do, I like to do the best I can, and to produce the quality. In the business I'm doing now, with the apartments, that's what I'm trying to achieve as well. To create good apartments and nice buildings, which I'm going to be proud walking in, and being proud of what I've built."

The ex-United star discussed the difficult side of fatherhood, especially when it comes to watching his son follow in his footsteps. He added: "It's difficult watching my son play football because he's playing centre-back and I see everything in terms of what he can do better.
"I'm the type of person that when they see, they have to say – I can't keep it to myself. He's learning now to accept that but it's good. I like watching him when I see his improvement and in the last year, he has improved a lot."

He also reflected on the family atmosphere at home and the subject of footballing expectations placed on his children.
"In my house, we don't really talk much about football," Vidic said. "We don't talk about how many trophies I won – I'm not much in the media. People are always saying, 'Your son has pressure' – I don't think he has any pressure. He has an advantage.
"Everyone knows who his dad is and the first thing they are going to do is compare and see how good he is. So, people will come to watch you, and if you are good, you are good."

Trent Alexander-Arnold breaks silence on Diogo Jota's death in emotional tribute

Real Madrid star Trent Alexander-Arnold paid a special tribute to Diogo Jota, his former Liverpool team-mate who tragically died on Thursday, following the Spanish giants latest win in the FIFA Club World Cup Trent Alexander-Arnold paid tribute to Diogo Jota after helping Real Madrid into the semi-final of the FIFA Club World Cup, declaring: "He will never be forgotten." The England star, who left boyhood club Liverpool for Real Madrid at the start of June, was unable to attend his former team-mates funeral on Saturday due to the Spanish giants' participation in the United States. Los Blancos beat Borussia Dortmund 3-2 to book a final four place against Paris Saint-Germain. ‌ 'My condolences, my love, my thoughts and prayers to the family of a close friend of mine,' said Alexander-Arnold, who spent five years playing alongside Jota at Anfield. 'It's been very very difficult for me personally, and also the ones that knew him. Not just team-mates, friends and family, but also the footballing world. ‌ 'Some things are bigger than the game. It's been difficult, but it's been heartwarming to see the football world unite to show love and support to him and his family, and also his brother. Although it's been difficult, it's been a nice showing out from clubs and people uniting and showing love and support for what must be a mind-blowingly hard time for his family.' Alexander-Arnold continued: 'I've been in and around him and his brother, his family, his amazing wife, his parents, his amazing three children - it's truly heartbreaking to wake up to news like that. It's something you would never expect. "He was a very close friend. Someone who lit up a room when he was in it. I shared a dressing room with him for five years. Amazing memories on and off the pitch. It goes without saying he will never be forgotten by anyone. 'He will live long in all our memories for the amazing man and player he was.' Many members of Liverpool's squad were united in their grief as they said farewell to their team-mate alongside his family, friends and a host of his international team-mates at his funeral in Gondomar on Saturday. A service for the 28-year-old father-of-three, who married his long-term partner Rute Cardoso almost a fortnight ago, and his brother, Andre Silva, was held at the Igreja Matriz de Gondomar church in their home town, near Porto, following their deaths in a car crash on Thursday. ‌ Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk and Andy Robertson each carried a floral tribute in the shape of a red shirt bearing the respective numbers of the two brothers. Head coach Arne Slot and the majority of the squad were present. ‌ So too was Michael Edwards – the man who signed Jota from Wolves in 2020 when he was sporting director and is now chief executive of football for owners Fenway Sports Group – current sporting director Richard Hughes and head of physiotherapy Lee Nobes and a number of other members of the club's backroom staff. Ex-Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson, who on Friday laid flowers at the makeshift shrine outside Anfield, James Milner, Thiago Alcantara, who signed in the same transfer window as Jota, Caoimhin Kelleher, Fabinho and former Wolves and Portugal team-mate Joao Moutinho were all also in attendance. So too were Joao Cancelo and Jota's 'best friend' in football, Ruben Neves, the former Wolves captain whom Jota had known since they were teenagers. The pair had been playing in the Club World Cup in the United States on Friday night - with both breaking down in tears before their quarter-final match against Fluminense as a tribute to Jota and his brother was played on big screens - before flying back to be present at the funeral.

Ashworth's four-man Man Utd shortlist that saw three signed with mixed results

Dan Ashworth was appointed Manchester United's sporting director last summer and had drawn up a list of four key players he wanted to sign for then-manager Erik ten Hag Dan Ashworth's tenure as Manchester United 's sporting director was a short-lived one, ending in disaster within just a few months. Ashworth was a prime target for Sir Jim Ratcliffe, who had to patiently wait over four months for him to officially commence his role due to being placed on gardening leave by his previous club, Newcastle United. It was on the 1st of July last year that Ashworth formally joined the Red Devils and immediately embarked on an ambitious recruitment campaign for then-manager Erik ten Hag, following United's FA Cup final victory over Manchester City. ‌ As per the Daily Mail, Ashworth had his sights set on four specific players, managing to secure three of them last summer – with the exception of Everton's Jarrad Branthwaite. A £35million offer for him was turned down by the Toffees a year ago, leading them to explore other alternatives, reports the Manchester Evening News. ‌ One of those other players was well-acquainted with Ten Hag, who was eager to reunite with. United shelled out £42m to bring former Ajax ace Matthijs De Ligt in from Bayern Munich. In a bid to provide Rasmus Hojlund with some assistance at the opposite end of the pitch, Ashworth activated Joshua Zirkzee's £34m buyout clause from Bologna after the Dutchman had aided the club in securing Champions League football for the first time in nearly six decades. Eager to bolster their defensive midfield – with Casemiro failing to replicate his Real Madrid form at the time – United sanctioned a move for Manuel Ugarte, who Paris Saint-Germain were willing to offload after just one season. A £40m offer was enough to secure the former Sporting CP star's services, eventually reuniting him with Ruben Amorim following the Portuguese boss' appointment as Ten Hag's successor last November. However, Ashworth departed United in December, before he could witness the outcome of his efforts. Over four months of the season had already elapsed upon Ashworth's exit and the performances of those three players left much to be desired. ‌ Despite De Ligt earning a formidable reputation in Europe since his teen years, he initially struggled to find his footing in Manchester's defence. While United endured a lacklustre season under Amorim, the Dutchman gradually found his rhythm in defence, sparking hopes among United fans that he will remain a key figure in their backline for years to come. The same optimism doesn't extend to Zirkzee, whose underwhelming presence has led United to continue their search for a striker to address their goalscoring issues – a role the former Bayern Munich forward was expected to fulfil. ‌ The 24-year-old has only managed to net seven goals in 49 matches across all competitions, with a mere three coming from Premier League games. His future at the club could be up in the air if Amorim succeeds in attracting ex-Sporting striker Viktor Gyokeres, despite Arsenal showing strong interest. Aston Villa's Ollie Watkins is also on United's current watchlist. ‌ As for Ugarte, the 24-year-old excels in tackling and regaining possession, typical traits of a defensive midfielder. However, he faced criticism last season due to his lack of forward play, with supporters arguing that his passing skills and athleticism are severely lacking. Amorim faces a colossal task ahead of the 2025/26 season, and it's yet to be seen what role these three players will have in United's future. And it seems unlikely that Ashworth's full quartet will be completed anytime soon. Branthwaite has recently signed a new contract with Everton under ex-United manager David Moyes. The England international, now reportedly valued at around £70m, inked a new five-year deal earlier this week.

Sporting Lisbon 'fear Viktor Gyokeres will carry out threat to go on STRIKE instead of returning for pre-season as he looks to force through move to Arsenal'

Sporting Lisbon are concerned Viktor Gyokeres will stick to his guns and go on strike tomorrow instead of returning for pre-season training, according to a report. The in-demand striker will be expected to join his team-mates at the club's headquarters to begin preparations for the next campaign, but he could look to force through a move to Arsenal by carrying out his threat not to report back. Swedish ace Gyokeres is also on the shortlist of Manchester United but, as reported by Mail Sport, he would prefer to head to the Emirates this summer. He has accused Sporting of rowing back on an agreement to let him leave for £60million and the club are now understood to be holding out for at least £68.5m - with £60m up front and the rest of the figure in achieveable bonuses. The Sun claim Sporting president Frederico Varandas felt Gyokeres' threat not to take part in pre-season was a bluff and the club hoped he would return to Lisbon on Sunday, allowing him to then link back up with the squad on Monday. Gyokeres, who scored an incredible 97 goals in 102 games over the past two seasons for Sporting, was given extra time off after being called up for international duty. However, sources have told The Sun that Gyokeres is 'increasingly unlikely' to take part in training, such is his desire to pack his bags for the Premier League. The ace, under contract until 2028, is angry over how his future has been handled. Gyokeres, 27, has so far pushed back on lucrative approaches from Saudi Pro League sides Al-Hilal and Al-Qadsiah and is also on Juventus' radar. In a potential boost to Arsenal, Sporting look to have softened their stance over the frontman's price tag, with a bid of just under £70m enough to seal the deal. Mail Sport reported earlier this week that Mikel Arteta wants a new striker to be signed before Arsenal fly out to Singapore on July 19 for a pre-season tour of Asia. RB Leipzig's Benjamin Sesko is believed to be the Gunners' No 1 target up front but both Gyokeres and Aston Villa's Ollie Watkins remain in contention. It has also emerged in recent days that Arsenal hold interest in Crystal Palace talisman Eberechi Eze and Real Madrid wideman Rodrygo. Meanwhile, reports have indicated that personal terms have been agreed with Chelsea's Noni Madueke, who has given the green light to join the Gunners.
