Brian Kelly has high praise for underrated LSU football transfer from SEC rival
Part of the top transfer class in the nation was tight end Donovan Green, who comes from Texas A&M. He dealt with injuries the past two seasons after a breakout true freshman year, but Kelly remains confident in the redshirt junior.
"Pleasant surprise is how I would characterize his addition," Kelly said. "He played as a true freshman at A&M and then suffered a very difficult injury that really put him in a tough position to really find his footing at A&M. He says nothing but great things about the staff and how he was treated there."
Green caught 22 passes for 233 yards and two touchdowns in his first year of college football. An ACL tear ahead of the 2023 season sidelined him and he dealt with recovery effects the following year.
The Tigers needed to replace one of their leading receivers at tight end as Mason Taylor departed for the NFL. Green brings a veteran presence as a pass catcher and blocker at 6-foot-4 and 265 pounds. He's healthy and ready for a new beginning, according to Kelly.
Green was one of two transfer portal additions at tight end for LSU. The Tigers also added Bauer Sharp from Oklahoma. Along with the return of Trey'Dez Green, LSU has the personnel for multiple tight end sets.
"This was just a fresh start for him," Kelly said. "For us, we bring a mature veteran player that has had some success when healthy and we're seeing that version of him right now in our program."

Former Texas A&M Edge officially signs 4-year rookie deal with the Cincinnati Bengals
The drama surrounding former Texas A&M edge Shemar Stewart, who was selected 17th overall by the Cincinnati Bengals in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft, is finally over, as ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter has announced that Stewart has finally signed his four-year rookie deal with the Franchise, accepting a fully guaranteed $18.97 million contract that includes a $10.4 million signing bonus. Over the last few weeks, one of the craziest rumors regarding Stewart's offseason workouts in Texas A&M's facility involved the former five-star prospect potentially returning to the team for a final season if the Bengals has not come to an agreement, which was swiftly denied by head coach Mike Elko, who was likely in constant communication with his former starter during the entirety of the frustrating process. Stewart's workouts with the Aggies have been beneficial during his time away, but it was absolutely vital for the Bengals' front office to sign him this week, just a couple of days after the start of training camp. The Miami native is in the developmental stage of his NFL career, after recording just 4.5 career sacks in three seasons at Texas A&M. New Bengals defensive coordinator Al Golden has his work cut out for him to turn Stewart into a premier pass rusher. At 6'5" and nearly 270 pounds, Stewart is an athletic freak after running a 4.59 40-yard dash, a 1.58 10-yard split, and recording a 40-inch vertical and a 10'11" broad jump at the NFL Combine. These measurements are a huge reason why he was a first-round selection, and, outside of his already established work ethic, is already one of the better rookie run defenders. The drama is over, and we can all be thankful for that.
