Men accused of shooting prison officer dead in 'revenge' pictured at Glastonbury
Two men accused of shooting a prison officer dead in a "revenge attack" were seen together at Glastonbury Festival, a court heard as a timeline of their relationship was detailed.
Elias Morgan and co-defendant Anthony Cleary are accused of the murder of dad-of-three Lenny Scott, who was fatally injured when he was shot outside a gym in Skelmersdale, West Lancashire, on February 8, 2024. Morgan, the alleged gunman, is accused of shooting the victim in an "act of retaliation" after Mr Scott, 33, exposed an illicit relationship involving him and a female officer at HMP Altcourse in Liverpool, the court heard. Cleary is alleged to have assisted Morgan by "delivering the van and bike so they could be used by a gunman who intended to kill Lenny Scott." Both men deny murder. Cleary also denies a second charge of manslaughter.
Court proceedings continued today as prosecutor Alex Leach KC took the jury through a sequence of events including CCTV, ANPR footage and cell site data. The prosecutor said the events showed contact between Morgan and Cleary as far back as June 2023, when they were seen together at Glastonbury Festival.
They attended the music festival just days after Morgan entered a not guilty plea to possession of the unauthorised phone recovered by Mr Scott. The pictures showed the pair posing with the festival in the background and another of the men lying down, with Cleary extending his arm around Morgan's shoulder, the Liverpool Echo reported.
The court heard telematics data on Morgan's Mercedes vehicle showed it was in Spain until December 11. And while it couldn't be established when the car went to Spain, it was there from at least July 11, the court was told. Between November 12 and 19 that year, a number attributed to Morgan used networks in the UAE and in Spain until December 11, the court heard.
The court heard phones attributed to Morgan and Cleary crossed from Spain into France on December 12. An Instagram message recovered from Cleary saw him telling an associate he was with "me bird, me mate" and that they were "bringing car back from Spain, few stops on the way." Images recovered from Cleary's handset showed them together in Paris. The Mercedes was back in Liverpool on December 13.
In the early hours of December 23, Morgan made a payment to Aer Lingus in Dublin and later made a payment to Manchester Airport, the court heard. A phone attributed to Morgan was used across mainland Europe between December 24 and 30 and in Spain between New Year's Eve and January 2, 2024.
Mr Leach then said that on January 3, Morgan went on a "reconnaissance trip" where, along with other unidentified men, he visited three addresses linked to Mr Scott. These included the North West Mecca Gym in Speke, Mr Scott's home address in Prescot and a gym at Peel House in Skelmersdale, outside of which he was shot dead, the Liverpool Echo reported.
The prosecutor said: "On the 8th of February 2024...Lenny Scott was coming out of his gym at Peel House in Skelmersdale when he was approached by a man wearing a high-visibility jacket and carrying a handgun. The man shot him, six times, to the head and body. Lenny Scott died of his injuries. The man travelled to and escaped from the scene on an electric motorbike, which he loaded onto the back of a van, a short distance away, before driving back towards Liverpool. The murder was, the prosecution says, an act of retaliation.
"The prosecution says that once you've heard the evidence, you will be sure that, at the very least, Elias Morgan orchestrated Lenny Scott's murder, recruiting Anthony Cleary to assist him in doing so. That alone would make him guilty of murder on count one.
"Moreover, the prosecution say, when you've examined the fine detail of the evidence, you will be sure not only that Elias Morgan is guilty of murder by organising the killing of Lenny Scott, you will be sure that it was he who pulled the trigger himself.
"For his part, Anthony Cleary, the second defendant, played a supporting role. Acting on instructions, he delivered the van, containing the electric motorbike used by the gunman, to a housing estate close to the gym. Moreover, he knew that he was delivering the van and bike so that they could be used by a gunman who intended to kill Lenny Scott, or at least to cause him really serious harm."
Mr Leach told the jury: "The evidence you are about to hear, when examined in detail, reveals a powerful image, one in which Elias Morgan, driven by a desire for revenge and reliant on Anthony Cleary for his assistance, planned and executed the murder of Lenny Scott. Both men, the prosecution says, are guilty of his murder."

Michael Madsen's challenging final years revealed including nasty divorce and young son's tragic suicide
Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) ACTOR Michael Madsen suffered through years of family struggles before his sudden death on Thursday. The Kill Bill star was found unresponsive at his Malibu home just months after he filed for divorce from his third wife and three years after the tragic suicide of his son. They said he was dead by the time they arrived, and believed that he died from natural causes. No foul play is suspected. According to the actor's manager, Madsen died from cardiac arrest. His death came as a shock, as the Hollywood star was working on many independent film projects when the tragedy struck. Just months before he collapsed, Madsen celebrated a career highlight by becoming the new face of a cigar company and was pictured on the front page of Hollywood Times. But amid his professional success, the actor was waging a bitter legal war with his estranged wife DeAnna Madsen after 28 years of marriage. Madsen filed for divorce from DeAnna in September, court documents show, and the couple had been separated since January 2022. In the documents, the actor alleged that the two parted ways shortly after their 26-year-old son Hudson died by suicide, People reported at the time. He blamed his wife for inflaming their son's mental health battle with her "neglect, drinking, and alcoholism" and said they had "irreconcilable differences" in the docs. The actor even got a domestic violence restraining order against DeAnna. The filing came one month after Madsen was arrested for battery of a spouse. His lawyer claimed at the time that he had "confronted" DeAnna and "asked her to leave" their house. 'Michael has shown immense compassion and restraint during this period towards his estranged wife,' his lawyer Perry Wander told The Hollywood Reporter days after the arrest. 'He's definitely not guilty of domestic violence." Meanwhile, DeAnna accused her estranged partner of "struggling with his own personal issues." "Myself and our children have been supporting him to the best of our ability. We would request privacy at this time," she told the outlet. Weeks after the filings were made public, Madsen released an emotional statement on social media, saying that he wished his "wife no harm or embarrassment." "Losing a child is the hardest and most painful experience that can happen in this world," he wrote. "I deeply apologize for not correcting this earlier but I love my wife and our other 4 children and have no desire for divorce or blame." Madsen clarified that his wife has "absolutely nothing to do with what happened to our son" and described the death as a "horrible loss." "I don't think my son is dead, I think he escaped from a life that didn't make sense anymore," he wrote. More to follow... Ferne McCann's jailed acid attacker ex dumped by Love Island beauty after eight month romance

Collins, 32 — who is serving 20 years behind bars — contacted the 26-year-old last October after checking out her Instagram profile. 5 Love Island's Amelia Peters has dumped jailed acid attacker Arthur Collins Credit: Instagram 5 Collins contacted the 26-year-old last October after checking out her Instagram profile Credit: PA:Press Association 5 He was dating Towie's Ferne McCann in 2017 when he threw acid in the Mangle E8 club in Dalston Credit: instagram He was said to have wooed her from behind bars - sending Amelia bouquets of flowers and her visiting him in prison regularly. But a friend of the former reality star has told The Sun: "Amelia has called off her romance with Arthur. "Some members of her family only found out about her romance after reading about it in the Sun and urged her to dump him especially after seeing the pictures of him injecting himself with steroids from behind bars." But concerned family members are said to be worried that it's only a matter of time before she gives Collins a second chance. "They've told Amelia he's 'bad news' and she shouldn't put her life on hold for him," they continued. "They are worried Collins has a hold over her. "Amelia has told her family she has dumped him for good but her friends believe it won't be long before she starts seeing him again because of the hold he has over her." The Sun has reached out to Amelia's rep for comment. Just last week The Sun revealed shamed acid attacker Collins' new romance. A source said at the time: 'They talk all the time — despite the fact he's in jail. "He's got a phone they speak on and he's sent her flowers a number of times.' Ferne McCann 'lets slip' THIRD pregnancy news saying 'I'm not done yet' with having kids Possessing a phone in jail is an offence and can lead to a loss of privileges or a longer sentence. Collins got an extra eight months in 2018 for smuggling a phone into jail. His fresh antics emerged after The Sun on Sunday revealed that scheming lag Collins had a 'steroid' injected into his bottom in his cell. He was dating Towie's Ferne McCann in 2017 when he threw acid in the Mangle E8 club in Dalston, East London — leaving 16 people with chemical burns. Collins planned to marry Annie Bull in 2022 after romancing her from his cell. He proposed during a visit, after which she had his name tattooed under her boobs. Amelia, on Love Island in 2017, had fallen under his spell. On his birthday last month, she posted on her Instagram an image of red roses with the letter 'A' above them. She wrote: 'Happy birthday to the most handsome pain in the arse, Love you x.' Our source went on: 'Amelia has made no secret of her relationship with Arthur and has told her friends she's mad about him and thinks he's the one. 'She says she thinks Arthur is a changed man. "Some of her mates are worried about her getting involved with him but Amelia won't listen.' Another source, close to Amelia, tried to downplay talk of a romance and said: 'She's visited Arthur but he is a family friend.' Meanwhile, Collins has been transferred from The Mount Prison in Herts — where the injection footage was taken — amid fears he was scheming to import drugs using drones. An anti-corruption team has found illicit items at his new home, HMP Buckley Hall, near Rochdale. A source said: 'He's in trouble constantly and doesn't seem to care. "He goes around like the big 'I am' as if he rules the roost.' 5 Family members are worried that it's 'only a matter of time before she gives Collins a second chance' Credit: Rex

Brutal shooting of prison officer outside gym was 'act of retaliation'
Lenny Scott tragically died after being shot six times last February. A dad-of-three was fatally shot six times outside a gym in an "act of retaliation". Former prison officer Lenny Scott, 33, died following the incident in the car park of Peel House in Skelmersdale, West Lancashire, on February 8, 2024. The gunman, wearing a hi-vis jacket, walked up to him before opening fire. Elias Morgan, the alleged gunman, and Anthony Cleary are both on trial at Preston Crown Court charged with his murder. Morgan is said to have shot him in response to an incident nearly four years previously where Mr Scott exposed an illicit relationship between the then serving prisoner and a female colleague. Mr Scott reportedly refused a £1,500 bribe in return for not reporting a phone Morgan had illegally while in prison, and also contained proof of the affair. Morgan, 35, allegedly threatened him: "I'll bide my time, but I promise I will get you." Cleary, 29, is accused of assisting him by procuring a van and e-bike used in the shooting, the Liverpool ECHO reports. Prosecutor Alex Leach KC walked the jury through a series of events. They heard how Mr Scott was seen on CCTV walking through the Peel House complex at 5.28pm, in the direction of the gym. A Mercedes driven by Morgan left his home address and travelled to Skelmersdale, arriving at 5.40pm. The court was told a "male with his face covered" was then spotted running along an alleyway from where Morgan had left the car. Shortly after, "a rider wearing dark clothing on a bike" was picked up on cameras travelling along Chequer Lane at 6.03pm before arriving at Peel House three minutes later. A man in dark clothing ran towards the Mercedes around 20 minutes later, with the car then travelling away. Footage showed a rider wearing a hi-vis jacket riding along Chequer Lane at 6.42pm, before entering the car park of Peel House less than five minutes later. Mr Leach said the rider was seen on CCTV"at the top of the car park" for around 49 minutes, and circled the area several times. Further footage showed Mr Scott walking with others inside Peel House before exiting into the car park and stopping to speak to someone outside, just metres from his own car. It then showed "the rider now on foot and approaching the entrance to Peel House". The court was then shown the moment the gunman opened fire on Mr Scott at 7.35pm, before fleeing the scene on the bike. Mr Scott's mother Paula, who was sitting in the public gallery with police liaison officers, was seen wiping her eyes as the video was played. Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community! Mr Leach previously told the jury in the prosecution's opening remarks: "The murder was, the prosecution says, an act of retaliation. The prosecution says that, once you have heard the evidence, you will be sure that, at the very least, Elias Morgan orchestrated Lenny Scott's murder, recruiting Anthony Cleary to assist him in doing so. "Moreover, the prosecution say that, when you have examined the fine detail of the evidence, you will be sure not only that Elias Morgan is guilty of murder by organising the killing of Lenny Scott, you will be sure that it was he who pulled the trigger himself. "The evidence, when examined in detail, reveals a powerful image, one in which Elias Morgan, driven by a desire for revenge and reliant on Anthony Cleary for his assistance, planned and executed the murder of Lenny Scott. Both men, the prosecution say, are guilty of his murder." Both men deny the charge of murder, with Cleary also pleading not guilty to a charge of manslaughter. The trial continues.
