Notre Dame is set to host one of the best quarterbacks in the Class of 2028 for a prospects camp Monday.
Center Grove (Greenwood, IN) sophomore Oscar Sloan will be in South Bend after he unofficially visited campus for the first time April 2. The 6-foot-2, 170-pounder has scholarship offers from Maryland and Purdue, among others, and he is also on the radar of programs such as Nebraska and Penn State.
While Notre Dame has yet to get a 2027 quarterback pledge, it isn't stopping Marcus Freeman and his staff from showing interest in some of the top signal-callers in the 2028 cycle. Noah Grubbs is the lone QB committed in the 2026 cycle.
Sloan spent his eighth-grade campaign at IMG Academy in Bradenton, FL, before starting his high school career at Center Grove. He started all junior-varsity games as a freshman and played in a couple varsity games as well, and he projects as the varsity starter this fall.

With a dominant final-day performance, DeFoe stacked up 32 bass for 78 pounds, 11 ounces to beat his closest pursuer in Ron Nelson of Berrien Springs, Michigan by nearly 27 pounds. Nelson finished as the runner-up, his best finish on the Bass Pro Tour since joining the ranks last season. DeFoe is one of the winningest anglers in Bass Pro Tour history, behind only Jacob Wheeler and Dustin Connell, but this marks his first individual win since Heavy Hitters in 2022. It's his first regular season win since 2021 on Florida's Harris Chain of Lakes. He did it in typical DeFoe fashion, too, escaping the bulk of the 66-angler field and fishing far up a creek in the Potomac River backwaters. 'The place where I caught them today was my first stop on the first day of the tournament,' he said. 'I saw them everywhere in practice and knew it had great potential. I had some other places where I could get bites, but with an early boat number on the first day, I had to go and see if I could get there first because it's not a big area.' Fishing the same general area as fellow Championship Round qualifier Keith Carson, both got off to fast starts the first day. "[Carson] was in there with me as well, fishing a little different section, but it was a blistering start on the first day for both of us,' he said. 'I had 40 pounds by noon, but I had a later boat draw the second day, and I drove there and could see some other competitors idling back in there. I opted to turn around and leave and really struggled most of the day and barely made it to the Knockout Round.' DeFoe couldn't make any other areas work but caught enough to advance. He was all-in on the area the final two days and took advantage of the tide schedule to get as far back as possible and reach bass in ultra-shallow water during the high tide, catching many of these fish he visually saw cruising due to the clear water. 'In practice, the best bite was mid-to-lower part of the outgoing tide when the water was really moving; kind of that mid-tide zone to the bottom end of the tide,' he said. 'That's when the bite made the most sense. We only got that the first day of the tournament, though. The high tide was the best for my deal because I could get so much further back. That was the most productive for me, especially today with how high the tide was during the final days of the tournament.' Getting to ultra-shallow water was helped by the tide schedule, and DeFoe believes the recent excessive heat was also a benefit, pushing bass to the shelter in the cooler creeks. 'All of the major tributaries have a lot cooler water because it's flowing, and then you have big pad flats and cover going in for bass to relate to,' he said. 'With the extreme heat we had here, I believe it was a driving factor in why so many bass were up there. It also seemed like new fish were coming every day.' D. Wayne Lukas, a 7-time Preakness winner, honored by Maryland horse racing community
Not many horse trainers had the success at Baltimore's Pimlico Race Course as Hall of Famer D. Wayne Lukas, who died on Saturday, June 28, in Louisville, Kentucky. He was 89 years old. Lukas won the Preakness Stakes seven times, behind only rival trainer Bob Baffert, who won the Triple Crown's second leg eight times. The Preakness Stakes was Lukas's most accomplished race of the Triple Crown. He had won the Kentucky Derby and Belmont Stakes four times each. Lukas has saddled 48 horses in the Preakness since his debut at the track in 1980. On June 22, Lukas's family said he had been hospitalized and would not return to training. Maryland racing community reacts The Maryland Jockey Club called Lukas a "legendary trainer" and a "true titan of Thoroughbred racing." "We extend our deepest condolences to his family, friends, & the entire racing community," The Maryland Jockey Club said on social media on Sunday. "His legacy will forever be part of Maryland Racing and the Preakness Stakes." Pimlico Race Course added that Lukas "will be deeply missed." "It was an honor to witness the legacy of D. Wayne Lukas," Pimlico Race Course said in a statement. "We extend our deepest condolences to his family, friends, and the entire racing community." The Preakness Stakes social media also expressed its sympathy. "A legend," the Preakness Stakes social media said. "Our hearts our heavy. Our thoughts and well wishes are with D. Wayne Lukas and his family during this time." D. Wayne Lukas's final race at Pimlico Race Course Lukas was in Baltimore for his final Preakness Stakes on Saturday, May 17, training American Promise, which had 15-1 morning line odds to win the race. American Promise, jockeyed by Nik Juarez, finished eighth out of nine horses. "The whole secret of this game, I think, is being able to read the horse: Read what he needs, what he doesn't need, what he can't do, what he can do," Lukas said at the Pimlico Race Course in May. "That's the whole key. Everybody's got the blacksmith, everybody's got to the same bed available, the feed man. We all can hire a good jockey. We all can hire a pretty good exercise rider if we've got the means, so what the hell is the difference? The horse is the difference and what we do with him in reading him." 2024 Preakness Stakes stunner A Lukas-trained horse won the Preakness Stakes at Historic Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore in 1980, 1985, 1994, 1995, 1999, 2013, and 2024. In 2024, Seize The Grey, a gray colt, dashed Mystik Dan's Triple Crown aspirations. Seize The Grey started with 4-1 odds and ended up taking out the favorite. That victory moved Lukas within one of the record at Pimlico, inching him closer to his good friend Bob Baffert. "I'm only one behind him — I warned him already," Lukas said. "It never gets old at this level, and I love the competition. I love to get in here with the rest of them." Lukas's memorable Preakness Stakes races Lukas's first victory at Preakness was with Codex in 1980, beating Kentucky Derby winner Genuine Risk. According to a Sports Illustrated article, Genuine Risk's owners challenged Codex's victory, claiming that jockey Angel Cordero Jr. deliberately interfered. The Maryland Racing Commission ruled that contact was incidental, allowing the victory to stand. Tank's Prospect (1985), Tabasco Cat (1994), Timber Country (1995), Charismatic (1999), and Oxbox (2013) were the other Lukas-trained horses to win the Preakness Stakes.

Angel Reese ecstatic as her brother Julian signs with Lakers after going undrafted
Angel Reese is one proud sister after watching her brother Julian accomplish his own professional basketball goal. Julian Reese, the former forward for the Maryland Terrapins, was signed as an undrafted free agent to the Los Angeles Lakers on Friday following the two NBA Draft rounds in prior days. The Terrapins celebrated the signing with a post of their own on X, and Angel Reese hopped in to congratulate her brother. She also encouraged her little brother to take advantage of what was ahead. "OPPORTUNITY," she wrote over Maryland's post. "COME ON JU." The younger Reese, who goes by "Juju," played four seasons at Maryland, where he tallied 1,488 points over his career. He also had 1,015 rebounds, which made him one of only two players in Terrapins history to have 1,000 points and 1,000 rebounds in their career. Kevin Willard, Maryland's head coach, spoke about Julian Reese's impact on the program back in February. "I really believe one day Julian's number will be hanging from the rafters," he said, per 247Sports. "Because in an era where kids showed no loyalty, kids get up and go anytime they want, money this and that, this young man didn't transfer." The Terrapins made it to the Sweet Sixteen this past NCAA Tournament after Reese averaged 13.3 points and nine rebounds per game during his senior campaign. He earned All-Big Ten honorable mention honors for the third straight season. Now, Reese will be joining the Lakers' Summer League roster, where he will team up with players like Bronny James and Dalton Knecht with hopes of impressing Los Angeles coaches enough to make the roster, or at least land with their G-League team.
