Red Cross 'deeply alarmed' by intensifying hostilities in Gaza

LBCI01-07-2025
The Red Cross said it was deeply worried Tuesday as Israel's military expanded its operations in Gaza, warning that the Palestinian territory's few functioning medical facilities were already overwhelmed.
"The International Committee of the Red Cross is deeply alarmed by the intensifying hostilities in Gaza City and Jabaliya, which have reportedly caused dozens of deaths and injuries among civilians over the past 36 hours," the ICRC said in a statement.

Death toll nears 60,000 killed in Israeli attacks

BEIRUT — In its daily report, Gaza's Health Ministry said Sunday that at least 88 Palestinians have been killed in the Palestinian enclave in the past 24 hours, along with 374 wounded. Among these victims, at least 53 people have been killed since dawn on Sunday morning, according to medical sources cited by al Jazeera, despite the "tactical pauses" in fighting announced by the Israeli army in several regions of the besieged territory to allow the delivery of humanitarian aid. About 32 aid seekers were killed by Israeli gunfire during a distribution near a GHF center in Khan Younis (south). This brings the total number of people killed directly by Israeli army attacks since the beginning of its offensive to 59,821 dead and 144,851 wounded, according to the ministry. At the same time, hospitals recorded six new deaths linked to malnutrition, bringing the total number of famine-related deaths to 133, including 87 children.

53 Palestinians killed despite fighting 'pause', 6 more die of famine

At least 43 Palestinians have been killed since dawn Sunday morning in Israeli attacks across the Gaza Strip, according to medical sources cited by al Jazeera, despite an announcement by the Israeli army of "humanitarian pauses in fighting" in some areas of the enclave. The victims include 29 people who were waiting for a humanitarian aid distribution in Khan Younis, in the south of the enclave, according to an official from the Nasser medical complex cited by the Qatari media outlet. The Israeli army had announced a daily humanitarian pause, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. (local time), in the areas of al-Mawassi, Deir el-Balah, and Gaza City, to allow for an increase in the delivery of aid in light of the worsening famine imposed in the besieged territory. In addition, the Gaza Health Ministry announced on Sunday morning that six more people have died from famine and malnutrition in the last 24 hours, including two children. The total number of deaths from famine now stands at 133, including 87 children, according to the ministry.

MSF says quarter of Gaza's young children malnourished

MSF said Friday that a quarter of all young children and pregnant or breastfeeding women screened at its clinics in Gaza last week were malnourished, blaming Israel's "policy of starvation." The medical charity known by its French acronym MSF said that "across screenings of children aged six months to five years old and pregnant and breastfeeding women at MSF facilities last week, 25 percent were malnourished," warning that "rates of severe malnutrition in children under five have tripled in the last two weeks alone."
